GOD is a rock meaning He is solid unshakable, firm the foundation that doesn't crack or crumble. GOD as rock also represents shadow, refuge, and hiding place.

A rock in Palestine is the foundation, shadow and shelter from hot sun.

God was a Rock for David, for instance, who hid from Saul and God is our Rock when we seek refuge from our battles. He is a hiding place where we are secure and safe.

A place for protection from the sun, for hiding from enemies.

Q3. In what ways is God a Rock in the above verses. What functions does a rock perform in Palestine?

A rock in Palestine is that which is used to construct fortresses. A rock is solid and the hardest of substances, so it is not temporal and does not change through generations. A rock is a place to take shelter. A rock is also that which one might trip upon, and Christ is portrayed as The Rock upon which humans with stuble upon!

God is a great rock in which to hide, a place of refuge, that is unmovable, unshakeable, and dependable, and this comforts those who place their trust in him.

Palestine was rocky and had caves which made it hard to penetrate them without notice, and is used protect them.

Q3.

In what ways is God a Rock in the above verses.

What functions does a rock perform in Palestine?

God is described as a Rock because of the stability and security He provides. The use of this Rock acts as a fortress, a high place of refuge and defence to which we can flee for protection. The Lord is my Rock.

In Palestine one finds rocks of elevated height, and in times of danger they provided places of safety from enemies. They acted like a fortress, a place so strengthened that enemies could not approach it. Such fortresses were often constructed on the rocks or on hills, where people would be safe.

Q3. In what ways is God a Rock in the above verses. What functions does a rock perform in Palestine?

In these verses, God is the protector and the stronghold. As for Palestine, God has been the protector each time Israel is attacked. Through out the Bible, each time Israel repents and comes back to God, He has raised her up and brought back her people. He was with Israel in 1948, 1967, and 1993, when they were attacked. God has always been their protector, their stronghold and their rock.

The function of a rock, a foundation, a place to climb to for a better view, easier to defend yourself if you are above your enemies, a fortress, a safe place.

Q3. In what ways is God a Rock in the above verses. What functions does a rock perform in Palestine?

I think that the rock that David referred to in the Psalms were the mountains where he used to hide and rest in times of battle with the enemy. He saw God also as a Rock where he could hide and know the God would protect him so that he would not be so visible to the enemy. A rock is big and solid, and steadfast. A rock in Palestine would probably be a hiding place against the enemy, they also used rocks to built altars. Jesus is the Rock of our salvation, the foundation, solid, unmovable and strong.

He saves, great, strong, upright, rescues, He is our hiding place, in him we could trust any day for He will forever be our Rock- He stands forever.

In Palestine I think is where the people can run to for hiding, The rock shades/shield the people during siege.

In what ways is God a Rock in the above verses.

He is the place where we seek refuge and protection, our hiding place.

He cannot be moved - nothing shakes him. We are assured of his faithfulness.

He provides us with shade - he give us a place to rest. In Him we are able to renew our strength.

What functions does a rock perform in Palestine?

I imagine Palestine to be a rugged place, without much shade and greenery. The terrain must be quite uneven.

Rocks make it easier for people to move about - they are firm unlike sand and pebbles. They provide shelter against the sun and winds. People can sit on them to rest. They are even large enough for people to hide in.

Q3. In what ways is God a Rock in the above verses.

The sense I get from all those references is that God is a Rock that cannont be moved and does not change. A totally dependable refuge and a place of safety that is inpenetrable. A support on which to stand with security.

What functions does a rock perform in Palestine?

In a dry arid land a huge rock was often the only shade to be found. In natural rock formations a band of soldiers could seek refuge and fight off a much larger force coming against them from open ground.

Q3. In what ways is God a Rock in the above verses. What functions does a rock perform in Palestine?

The word of Rock in Hebrew are two words “tsûr” and “sela”. Whereas the former stands for boulders of stone which makes mountains and the latter stands form a cleft in the rock. Rock basically stands for refuge and security both for the nation corporately as well as for us individually. He is Rock that is constant, He cannot be moved nor shaken. We are secure in Him. If He is the Rock we are living stones, being built on Him the Sure Foundation.

Palestine is made up of strong limestone bedrock. It is a place of mountains and valleys. The mountains had massive rocks as well as clefts. The caves in the rocks became the places of refuge. The massive rocks even functioned as a fortress and a stronghold to defend the city from the enemies. It was on the Mount Moriah that the temple was built. So the mountain was also the place of worship. When houses are built on the rock it becomes a strong foundation and strong winds cannot bring the house down. Jerusalem itself was a city that was built on a mountain.

God is a rock in the above verses in that He is dependable,  unmoveable.  The shifting sands of times may unsettle us but God remains steadfast.  He is as steady as a rock. He is a hiding place, a place of refuge, a stronghold.  A shelter from the storms of life.

In Palestine a rock served as a hiding place for those who were trying to evade their enemies. For example one such rock was David's hiding place at one time  when he was running from Saul.  Also bandits used the rocks to secrete themselves in order to ambush those who would dare to travel such routes without adequate protection.

Q3. In what ways is God a Rock in the above verses. The reference to rock  is a metaphor that God is unchanging, impenetrable, a mighty fortress that is a shield of protection and of trust. It is the idea that God is permanent, unchanging, unfailing in His protection, His holiness. He is the mighty fortress, a refuge for your body, and soul.

What functions does a rock perform in Palestine? I don't know very much about Palestine so I cannot answer this question.

God is our Rock--foundation, sela,a fortress, a cliff.  We have a place of safety. On Masada, there are cliffs where wild goats can graze on.  A mountain stronghold is a place of strength and safety.  In Central Italy, very common to see houses packed together around a castle.   It was a place of safety for the citizens when a neighboring province would make war.

God is our tsur, strength. firmness, strength, source or origin.  During the dark nites of the soul, we have that deep assurance that God is with us.  When friends and dear loved ones are gone; we know that we know that we are standing on holy ground.  Like prophet Moses, we need to tarry on Mt Sinai, so God can do His perfect work of sanctification in us.  Yahweh is everlasting strength, Undefeatable One and the Eternal Strong One (Isaiah 26:4).

A huge rock would be part of a large mountain.   Very typical at Mt Sinai.  Huge boulders were places where one could fine refuge in time of torrential rains or protection from enemies.  Prophet Elijah sought refuge in a cave.  Prophet Moses was hidden the cleft of the rock during his encounter with
