First--seeing the burial cloths there (and no body)
Second--the cloths were not just abandoned. The head cloth was folded and apart from the other strips!
They hadn't understood from the scriptures that Jesus must rise from the dead...but SEEING WAS BELIEVING!!!

The strips had been unwound & were lying there & the headcloth was neatly folded. Jesus was alive. He had removed the clothes binding him & neatly wrapped the headcloth. This took a little time & was done deliberately. (This proves His body could not have been stolen either.)

Simon Peter saw the strips of linen lying there as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus'head. The cloth was folded seperate from the linen. the other disciple went inside, He saw and believed.
The grave cloths were left as if Jesus had passed right through them The headpeace was stilled rolled up in the shape of a head, and it was at about the right distance from the wrappings that had been around the body of Jesus and left the linens as if they were still shaped around it
A grave robber couldn't possibly have stolen the body and left the linens as if they were still shaped around it.

It was evident that something supernatural had happened! In order for Jesus' body to have been stolen away from the tomb, the stealers would have had to overcome the guards in some fashion [drugged their water, bribed them...?], have them help roll the tomb stone aside, unwrap Jesus' burial clothes and carefully tidy them up, carry Jesus away to someplace, and have the guards pretend that they knew nothing about what had happened [and under what penalty by Pontius Pilate?]
It seems that Peter & John came to the tomb not believing what they had been told by the women [the 1st Evangelists?] but when they checked the tomb out and saw everything neatly folded - even Jesus' head cloth - that was enough for them to believe.
But what did they believe, I wonder? Do the verses - John 20:9-10 - in their textual location indicate that they believed that he had risen from the dead, or was it that they believed the concern of Mary Magdalene: "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!"? [Jn 20:2]

The fact that the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus' head was neatly folded and lying separately from the other cloths. To be in this state, rather than just thrown aside, or even missing, had His body been stolen, strongly signfied to Peter and John that Christ had indeed risen.

Q3. (Luke 24:12; John 20:6-8) What about the grave clothes brought Peter and John to faith? What was so peculiar about them?
Peter and John saw that the grave clothes were neatly folded and it looked as if Jesus just came out of them without disturbing them. This proved to them that Jesus had really resurrected just as he told them several times and not that robbers had stolen his body. This was ample testimony of the power of God.
Seeing the bodily resurrection of Jesus was enough to stir up faith in these disciples. Our faith should also be stirred as we learn and hear testimonies of the resurrected Christ.

These reasons made the two disciples of Jesus to believe.

The head cloth was folded, and the cloth his body was wrapped in remained intact.........as if he had slipped right through them without disturbing them.
Taking the time to fold the head cloth ....and place it on the shelf was proof that Jesus' body had not been stolen.
When Peter and John they realized that his body was not stolen, therefore he had to have risen.

The grave clothes were like Jesus' body was still in them. They were still in place but the body was missing. Because Jesus had risen from them. The head cloth was folded neatly near the other linen. When the two of them saw this they remembered Jesus' promise of his resurrection from the grave.

That's a great question! Thinking of it I realize that in fact they could have been confused, but to the direction of starting to believe that Jesus was alive. This also happens with us, we start to believe in phases. First we see a truth about the Lord, but our human minds (especially the ones with scientific backgrounds and highly educated) refuse to take their believe for granted, and start thinking it over and step by step we reach the conclusion to believe. At that time no one can take the believing and faith from our heart.

The grave clothes were lying there very neatly. Robbers would have taken HIM in the grave clothes and if HE had just awakened the clothes would have been in disarray. The mere fact that they were lying folded neatly was amazing in itself

The matter of the position of the grave clothes so neatly placed were the realization to the disciples that jesus had risen and escaped from his earthly body. Thr grave cloths were still in the same position as when he was buried in them.
