  1. God sends Jonathan to encourage David. David is being hunted down by Saul to kill him so he was very anxious. Jonathan could have been stoned if caught and David desperately needed his friend at that time. yes I have friends who call or drop by just at the time I need them the most.
  2. "Abiathar, a son of Ahimelech son of Ahitub, escaped and fled to join David.... Now Abiathar son of Ahimelech had brought the ephod down with him when he fled to David at Keilah. When David learns about Saul's slaughter, he is heartsick and feels that it is his fault. He invites the high priest's son, Abiathar,[90]to stay with him for his own safety. But there is another important benefit of Abiathar's presence -- the ephod. The ephod is part of the high priest's garments that include the Urim and Thummim, apparently lots used to determine God's will when David inquires of Yahweh]David now has the ability to seek God's will about key decisions. In addition, both David and the prophet Gad possess a prophetic gift to hear from God (2 Samuel 23:1-2). David is led by the Lord, while Saul acts in the dark. Out of tragedy, God brings light.
  3. David honors his men and acquantiences. He treats them right and fair.David has become a powerful warlord with his own private army-- and the responsibility to feed ithem and their families! David was young and became a part of these men who loved him so. David's age helped and harmed harmed in leading God's people-inexperenced and full of ideas-some that worked and some didn't,
  4. David concludes that he isn't safe even with the prophet Samuel. He arranges a secret meeting with Saul's son, Jonathan. Consider how much trust this must have taken on David's part. If Jonathan betrays David to his father Saul, he can become king himself. Still, Jonathan has made a covenant with David and keeps it.If you mistreat my daughters or if you take any wives besides my daughters, even though no one is with us, remember that God is a witness betweenyou and me." (Genesis 31:49-50) You will recall that there was no longer any trust between Jacob and Laban. Yet they parted with the assurance that the Lord was a witness to their agreement with each other. Of course, when David and Jonathan part, there is great trust between them -- and great risk for both of them. Their last words recall that the Lord will be watching that each of them fulfills his part of the covenant. It's touching to imagine their parting. The NIV translates verse 41, "Then they kissed each other and wept together -- but David wept the most," suggesting that they were in competition with each other, but that doesn't make sense. The Message captures the scene better: "They kissed one another and wept, friend over friend, David weeping especially hard." (20:41, The Message) David is leaving the honor and relative stability of the king's palace and his own military command. What faces him now is the life of a fugitive, always looking over his shoulder, pursued relentlessly by the most powerful man in the kingdom, intent on his death. And David is leaving his closest, dearest friend, Jonathan, who is risking his own future by being loyal to David. It is almost too much to bear. One chapter of his life is closing forever and another chapter -- a dark and foreboding chapter -- is opening. David is weeping as Jonathan turns to go back to the city while David walks into exile alone.
  5. Saul has no faith and displays this by pursuing David even they saw a group of prophets prophesying, with Samuel standing there as their leader, the Spirit of God came upon Saul's men and they also prophesied. 21 Saul was told about it, and he sent more men, and they prophesied too. Saul sent men a third time, and they also prophesied.... Saul went to Naioth at Ramah. But the Spirit of God came even upon him, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth. 24 He stripped off his robes and also prophesied in Samuel's presence. He lay that way all that day and night. This is why people say, 'Is Saul also among the prophets?'" (1 Samuel 19:20-21, 23-24) for Saul, nothing is sacred -- that's the implication of Saul seeking to kill David in the very sanctuary of Israel's prophet Samuel. Saul's fear and need to control have pushed him to total rebellion against God, even though he realizes that God has anointed David to be king.
  6. The opportunity to marry the king's daughter -- especially if he is able to pay the bride price by his own efforts -- pleases David who takes him up on his offer. Instead of 100 Philistines, David and his men double the amount. They kill 200 Philistines, circumcise the corpses, and deliver the foreskins to Saul. By marrying Michal, David son-in-law to the king who is insanely jealous of David.
  7. Saul hated David and sent him into battle to get him killed. David became a might person of God. God's help
  8. We forget since we hear and believe that it is "our" strength is stronger than God's. Actually we are to suit up and show up and let God do the rest-not in our strength. God does not enter in an arrognant's person battle so we must constantly repent and listen to God.
  9. David's explaination to Saul of his experience speak volumnes about his faith. David is God's warrior and follows God and is indeed then a mighty warrior. Saul thought David was rediculous but had no one else who would do the job. Saul has no faith from God but allows satanall his power. He killed himself since he had no hope.
  10. David was a shephard in the fields when he was chosen to be King unlike his brothers who we in the army. The army was to feed the people not the other way around. David was led by God and had the faith to believe he could defeat Goliath. Faith always gives us power beyond our strength straight from the heart of God. Goliath looked big in human eyes but it is God's eyes it is small and conquerable.
  11. Because Saul was tormented because God's spirit left Saul for David. We can't learn from God in the midst of worldly noise..
  12. Samuel annointed David which gives him the power of God and the annointing of the Holy Spirit. If we don't have the Holy Spirit we will not have God's guidance
  13. Listening to God's voice in this world is making a choice. God gave us choices and we must get quite in our lives stop trying to think and listen. Instinctively we think we can listen with all the noise of the world. Get quite, read God's word, pray, and listen.
  14. Rebellion is turning your back and rejecting something God etc. All sin is the same turning your back on the love of God. Arrogance is rebellion against God thinking you know better than God. When we rebell or find itin my heart I need to repent and turn back to him. If we do nothing then we go to to hell.
  15. A continual growth to change to be more like Christ. In contrast a person that stays in the "old creation" is more evil-sinful, very negative, always becoming more and more like the people of the world. Love. You must be born again doesn't imply coming back through the birth process, but the process of a new creation implies choosing to turn from sin and to make a turn around in all ways we think and live submitting all of ourselves to God by allowing him to lead our lives to a more wonderful way.
  16. It isn't easy to continually be loving and kind when most of the world is sinful and hateful. We get tired of the "good fight" sometimes to the point of quiting. We shall reap our heavenly reward. A spiritual family strengthens us and holds us accountable along with encouragement where there is no where to go but down in a hole of sin and death otherwise.
  17. It means to continually sin with moral convictions. Reap everlasting life. Becoming more like Christ-good relationships, compassion, and loving. A congreation sowing in the flesh will be backbiting, fighting, and full of hate and sin..
  18. A person can recognize sin in the any stage of commiting it or someone can find another comitting such a sin. Restoration is to return to the Christ-like faith, repentance, and to continue being around stronger Christians who can help him/her with the thoughts before the sin and gently reminding them the rightway while encouraging them with the right things they are doing. If one does not become humble then restoration is impossible.
  19. To crucify the flesh is to deny it until the Christ side gets stronger. No. Many may call themselves Christian when there is no actions.
  20. Sanctification is the process we become more like God and if we continue to strive for that goal the Holy Spirit gives us great gifts. If we don't have these gifts then we are not of God.
  21. Fruit of patient are very hard to learn for it takes endurance to practice. Patience is required for me it has taken along time to earn and not to retaliate. I hope to 1 day will become patience since I am still struggling with anger.
  22. When we love as God loves us we also have joy and peace.
  23. yes I feel as Gentiles in that time, Jews didn't accept Gentiles as God's children so they thought better of themselves. Christ's unity is that we love each other which creates us all equal. yes there are many that act as if we aren't as good as in this world and they will argue if they are right so all we can do is pray for them, not allowing them to make us feel second class nor act out, and love them until Christ creates a clean heart in them.
  24. They don't want to fully give ourselves to God they continue to follow the law, but not God's laws and grace. we have confused "justification by works of the law" to mean that we can sin on and on and still be saved. It is very true that we cannot be saved by being good -- because there's no way we can be good enough to reach God's high standard. But if we have a cavalier attitude towards sinning, what does that say about our so-called faith and allegiance to Jesus? Paul's concern "is to warn believers that they must therefore not live as others who are destined to experience the wrath of God" (Colossians 3:6).If we're serious about following Christ, we need to repent of our sins and begin a pattern and practice of yielding to the Holy Spirit. Yes, we'll slip now and then. But that doesn't mean that we can't walk consistently in the Spirit. You can't credibly say you're a follower of Jesus when you sin with impunity -- that's hypocrisy!
  25. Sins of Flesh Sins against humanity and Sins against God (His church included)
