Q1. Glowing in God's Presence

Recommended Posts

Why did Moses’ face glow? Why did he cover it when he was out with the people? Why didn’t more people’s face glow in Moses’ time? What’s the difference between the spread of God’s glory in Moses’ time when compared to our own time?

1) Moses face glowed because he had asked the Lord to show him his Glory and he had a face to face encounter with the Lord.

2) Moses covered his face because the people were afraid. Also, he did not want them to see the glow fade.

3) More people's face did not glow in Moses' time because they did not spend time with the Lord face to face.

4) The difference between the spread of God's Glory in Moses' time and our own time is that in Moses time the Glory was of the Law and only temporary. In our time the Glory is of the Spirit and is permanent.

Q1. (2 Corinthians 3:7-11) Why did Moses'face glow? Because he had spoken with the LORD.

Why did he cover it when he was out with the people? The people of Israel was afraid to speak to him because his face was radiant. The Holy Spirit was with him and the Israelite's can actually see it.

Why didn't more people's face glow in Moses'time? The Israel people actually sees that Moses had been speaking with the LORD and for his face was radiant with the glory of God.

What's the difference between the spread of God's glory in Moses'time when compared to our own time? The difference between Moses time and our time is that during Moses time, God the Father is actually speaking with him. During our time today, the Holy Spirit is the one speaking to us when we really listen and our faith is radiant in the LORD.

Moses face glow because he was in God presence.Moses had to cover jis face because the people was afraid of the glow that came from his face when he was in God presence. More people face don't glow because they don't spend time with God.

The glow in moses time, Moses was the only one that had the glow because he was the only one that talk to God and he our time we all can have God glow if we spend time with him and reading his word.

Moses' face glowed because when you are in the presence of God you can't help but be changed somehow! Moses' shining face also authenticated his message from God. Moses covered his face when he was out with the people so he could prevent the people from seeing more than they could handle. People's face would only glow if they were in the actual physical presence of God and no one was invited to that but Moses. There's really no difference between the spread of God's glory in Mose's time and our time. It's done the same way--through word of mouth and actions, through prayer and repentance.

Moses' face glowed because, "The law that brought death was written in words on stone. It came with God's glory, which made Moses' face shine so bright that the Israelites could not continue to look at it. But the glory later disappeared."

He covered it, ".....so the Israelites would not see it. The glory was disappearing and Moses did not want them to see it end."

More people didn't glow in Moses' time because the Holy Spirit only "came on" certain people. Most lived under the law and had a covering over their minds. They were afraid of God and the condemnation the law brings. Moses though, understood the truth through the Holy Spirit and was in relationship with God. He respected God, but knew more of His character, His faithfulness and love. He wanted to be in His presence and could boldly go there.

God's glory in Moses time was only for a time. "But the glory later disappeared."

As for in our own time, "So surely the new way that brings the Spirit has even more glory. If the law that judged people guilty of sin had glory, surely the new way that makes people right with God has much greater glory."

Moses represented the law which did bring glory, but in Jesus, the new way is more glorious. We have the veil uncovered as we accept Christ and His glory. The Holy Spirit lives in us and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. Freedom from sin and death. Our faces are not covered, because this is permanent. We show God's glory because we are changed to be like Him and this change brings greater glory than those who try to follow the law which shows itself in legalism. We are made right through Jesus, who fulfilled the law. Now the new covenant is one of love. The interesting thing is, if we love, then we will live the commandments. We will love God and love others by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is no longer us, but Christ who lives in us and will be for the cause of Christ to love others!

PAUL CONTRASTED THE GLORY OF THE TEN COMMANDMENT WITH THE GLORY OF THE LIFE GIVING SPIRIT. IF THE LAW WHICH LEDS TO DEATH WAS GLORIOUS HOW MUCH MORE GLORIOUS IS GODS PLAN TO GIVE US LIFE THROUGH HIS SPIRIT

GODS PLAN IS FAR MORE SUPERIOR TO ANY OTHER WE SHOULD NOT REJECT IT OR TRTEAT IT CASUALLY.

I believe that Moses' face glowed because he sought the glory of God. He had true faith that it would be revealed to him, and it was. He could not be in the presence of the true and mighty God without it showing. He covered his face as not to scare the people; I believe that he wanted to be able to talk to the people in a way that they would listen from the heart, not out of fear of him. I can't really say why Moses face glowed except that God is well, God and He chooses who He uses to show His glory on this earth. The people had just come out of a 700 yr. slavery. They probably still had a 'slave mentality' and were used to doing what the master (Moses in this case) required of them. They feared Moses when the evidence of the presence of God was shown in him. They could not see themselves as ones that could seek the glory of God on their own; they missed the point of worshipping God for who He is, not just fear of consequence. We know from scripture that Joshua and Caleb believed in God's promises and were the only ones out of the group to reach the promised land. Their face never revealed their faith, but their true faith had reward. Today, the Spirit lives in each and every one of us. We have the freedom to listen to His voice and seek His will for our own lives.

Q1. (2 Corinthians 3:7-11) Why did Moses ‘face glow?

The glory of God's presence was evident to Israel when they saw Moses face glowing; it was proof that Moses had communed with God Almighty and lived.

Why did he cover it when he was out with the people?

Israel sinned a great sin when they made a golden idol to worship, their sin cost the lives of three thousand men, great sin came to Israel, therefore God in his grace gave warnings to them, they were not to come up to the mount, nor were they to even touch it, or death would come to them, it was because of their sin that God set boundaries for them, the LORD said to Moses, charge the people, lest they break through and gaze unto the LORD, therefore many will perish.

Moses covered his face because the people were afraid and would gaze upon the presence of God's glory and death would come.

Why didn't more people face glow in Moses ‘time?

It was because of SIN. :(

Q1. (2 Corinthians 3:7-11) Why did Moses’ face glow?

It was God's Will that Moses' face would glow. Truthfully any other explanation would be conjecture, the Bible does not reveal why, however we can speculate having several factors as a base line. Moses was God's main under shepherd for the Hebrews at the time. After fasting for 40 days and night, he as well had been in the presence of God. Others prior to Moses had communed with God, others had received guidance from God, others had prayed, communicated / talked with God. However Moses was given a task that differed from others, after communing with God His face solidifying the awe of God, the glory of God, the approval from God that Moses was chosen to lead and distribute thus say the Lord.

Why did he cover it when he was out with the people?

We can hypothesize and or give an opinionated response, many refer directly to 2nd Corinthians 3:13 as the reason why Moses covered his face when he was out with the people. One Commentator states, "Paul explains the real purpose of the veil: not so the shining face of Moses would be hidden, but so that the diminishing glory of his face would not be observed, - because the glory was fading." The funny thing is that there is not a reference verse where the Bible indicates such. What the Bible does state in Exodus 34:30 "And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him." Verses 31-34 informs us as to why he put the vail on and took it off, then in verse. Verse 35 "And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him."

A group of writers has went as far as saying that the veil kept the people from understanding references to Christ in the Scriptures. That though doesn't go well with messianic prophesy that emitted from the mouth of Moses, one such prophesy is proclaimed in the Law (Deuteronomy 18:15, 18). Moses the ordained leader to lead these people in the natural, he was as well a prophet. He made mistakes but for the most part he was obedient unto the Lord. He did not intentionally shield anything going against Gods' Will, scripture as well tells us that he was meek. For Moses to shield his face for any other reason would be contrary to his character. Verses 30-35 informs us that Moses face shoned, that he placed and removed a vail that covered his face, the people saw his face as it shoned and that they were afraid.

Side bar:

Regarding 2nd Corinthians 3:13 Also, so that the Israelites might not gaze upon the finish of the vanishing splendor which had been upon it.

It is of my strong opinion that Paul was not accusing Moses of any mal-intent, he made every effort to operate with clarity (1:13; 11:6) and openness (3:3; 5:11-12) toward the Corinthians. Paul speaks of the character and the administration of the New Covenant over the old. Paul calls this ministry a hope because its full splendor is yet to be seen.

Not as Moses Paul references Exodus 34:31-35, not so much that what Moses experience was temporary, we all have a renewing that occurs if we were to be honest. When Paul says " that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: " He is not talking specifically about Moses face nor the vail, they could not see beyond the letter of the Law, they could not see the Spirit of the law.

Paul made every effort to speak clear and open to the Corinthians, what was abolished? righteous standards that God would use as guidance or the ministration associated with sanctification. Within verse 15 it says, "which vail is done away in Christ." Jesus the Christ is the sacrifice of all sacrifices, therefore there was no longer a need for physical oblations. Works never was nor will be the actions that saves. Maintaining the Decalogue does not save, however you will not find in the writing of Paul once where he says a person no longer has to honor God or that it is OK to sin against your brethren do to the liberty of the law.

God has a standard in which He will judge by and we as Believers need a reference of guidance. The glory on the face of Moses face was not his nonetheless it gave way to the face of Christ functioning in a different capacity of the Godhead. Our sufficient is in Christ and what He has done however we still need to adhere to His guidance. How will it be known that we are His? love is an action word!

Why didn’t more people’s face glow in Moses’ time?

It was not Gods' Will, Moses was chosen to lead a group of people that had not only been in physical bondage but spiritual bondage as well. They also had been negatively spiritually influenced. Just as Moses was associated with various miracles to include the parting of the Red Sea, his face shone d as according to God's Will for the times that it did. All reaffirmed that God was with Moses, that Moses was not self-willed We can use the contextual understanding from Exodus 20:18-21 and others passages of scripture to confirm that most of the people did not have the same relationship as Moses did with God, however the bottom line is that it was not God's Will for others face to glow.

What’s the difference between the spread of God’s glory in Moses’ time when compared to our own time?

The spread of God's glory in my opinion in Moses time and our has not changed much, there is nothing new under the sun. There were some who were in awe when God's glory was revealed the same applies today. Some of the Egyptians were in awe and some were angered, some may have abandoned their belief in gods and some may have remained steadfast in their beliefs of gods.

The Scriptures tell us that Moses' face was radiant after consecrating himself and spending time with God. Moses did not initially know that his face shoned however upon returning among the people, they could clearly see that he had been with God. Even though our face may not physically light up after we have spent time with God,[ as we commune with God, as we communicate with God (praying, listening, meditating, reading / studying our Bibles)] as we yield our lives unto Him, in His presence so many wonderful things can happen that can have such a effect upon our lives that people will know not only that we have been with God, but also that we are His.

Moses’ face glowed because he had been in the presence of God. He covered it when he was out with the people because they were afraid of him. I think that more people’s faces didn’t glow in Moses’ time because they weren’t in direct contact with God.

The difference between the spread of God’s glory in Moses’ time as compared to our own time is because the veil has been removed and we can all talk to God. When Jesus died on the cross the curtain that had separated the Holy of Holies had been torn in half making it possible to go too directly to God.

Moses' face glowed because he had been in the presence of God and the glory of God which shown around him was now glowing out of him.

Moses covered his face because the glory of God which was shining out of him was blinding the people.

In Moses' time more people did not shone the glory of God because God did not fellowship with them as He did with Moses.

Compared with our own time the difference between the glory of God in Moses and His glory in us is the Holy Spirit. Today the Holy Spirit lives in us. God communicated His glory in us through His Spirit.

Moses’ face glowed because he had been speaking with the Lord: “he was not aware his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord” (Ex 34:29). He covered it when he was with the people as it made them afraid (Ex 34:30). I think this may reflect the low spirituality among the people – they could not handle too much of God! Holiness is threatening in its purity, we shy away from it.

I am not sure why more peoples’ faces did not glow in Moses’ time – it may have been because Moses had a unique relationship with God in his role as leader, together with his spiritual heart, and the Holy Spirit came upon him regularly when he met with God, and was granted this unique audience as a special privilege; or it may have been that Moses alone had a wholehearted desire for God compared to the rest of the Israelites.

In our time, God’s glory can be spread whenever his people spend time contemplating Him: “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect* the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord who is the Spirit” (2 Cor 3:18) * contemplate. In comparison to the Israelites, we have ready and full access into the holiest place because of the blood of Jesus, and we have the continual presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. A godly lady I know recently encouraged a group of us to daily spend time adoring God, and I think this is the idea here in this passage.

Moses faced glowed because he had spent time in the presense of the Lord.

Moses covered his face when he went out with the people because the radiance was blinding.

I think the reason more people's faces didn't glow in Moses' time was because most of them didn't desire an intimate relationship with God,the way Moses did.

The difference between the spread of God's glory in Moses' time and our own time is, the Holy Spirit. In Moses' day the glory of the law would soon fade or pass away. The glory of God's Spirit continues to this day.

Q1. (2 Corinthians 3:7-11) Why did Moses'face glow?

Moses face glowed because he had spoken to God face to face.

Why did he cover it when he was out with the people?

Moses had to cover his face when he was out with the people, because his face was so radiant that the people were scared to come near him.

Why didn't more people's face glow in Moses'time?

More people’s face did not glow in Moses’ time, because they did not seek God the same way Moses had. Moses prayed and asked God to “Show me your glory.”

What's the difference between the spread of God's glory in Moses'time when compared to our own time?

The difference between the spread of God’s glory in Moses’ time when compared to our own time is that the law didn't bring life to God's people as the Spirit does. The New Covenant began when Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and the Holy Spirit was given to us from Jesus to help us to understand the Gospel. In Paul's analogy, the glory of the law fades or passes away, while the Spirit of God continues with us to this day.

According to the account in Exodus, Moses’ face glowed because “he had spoken with God.” He covered his face when he was with the people because “they were afraid to come near him.” Moses’ face reflected God’s glory and was a demonstration that he had been with the Lord. In Moses’ time, the people could not have the close relationship with God that we can in our time. I believe the difference is the indwelling Holy Spirit – Christ in us as a result of a better covenant.

Moses' face glowed from being in the physical presence of God.  The radiance of Moses' face scared the people so Moses' veiled his face while not in the physical presence of God.  The people were afraid of God and appointed Moses as their representative.  The were unwilling to draw close to God.  God's glory in Moses' time was placed on a person in the direct presence of God.  It was at a certain physical location.  In our time the glory is spread by the Holy Spirit through believers in the Messiah Jesus throughout the world.

However, like Moses, it still takes a personal relationship and willingness to drew close to God in order to receive the glory of God.

Some people have it, and I thank God that more frequently, I can feel that they have it. Its in the air, its God., its wonderful. You can't buy it or even find it in a store. But it comes and goes like the wind, as it pleases itself, which is what we'd expect God to do, to manifest His Glory of the Moment.

We can indeed shine for Him today, we just need to ask Him to take over, a willingness to be owned and directed by our creator.

So then how will be show it is these times? No need to think about it; in all His Glory, He shall create the moment He intended to use us.

Jesus clearly said in John 15 to remain in Him and our joy would be complete.  Amen!

http://www.joyfulheart.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1082

Pure and simple, Moses was in the presence of God and “saw” God face to face and that is why his face shone brightly and radiantly/glowed. The people’s face did not glow because they did not come into the face-to-face view of the Almighty.  Moses covered his face with a veil because the brightness was so blinding bright to the eyes of the people.

God may have been present in the midst of the people but they did not actually see His face and therefore the radiant glow was not available to them.  To us today, who are believers and have accepted the LORD Jesus as our Savior, we have God’s Holy Spirit resident in our hearts and there whene we feel we are in the presence of God in having that special moment with the LORD, our faces shine with a similar brilliancy/joyfulness as Moses. So in essence, the glory of God is ours today because we have His Spirit in us.  Praises to God for His wonderful and perfect plans for our good!

(i) Moses face is radiant "... because he had spoken to the Lord" Exodus 34.29.

(ii) Moses covered his face with a veil because the people were afraid to come near to him.

(iii) No one else had seen the Lord.

(iv)  The difference between the spread of God’s glory in Moses’ time when compared to our own time has been the resurrection of Jesus Christ is given by Paul's argument:, "that however glorious its origins, the law didn't bring life to God's people as the Spirit does.  In Paul's analogy, the glory of the law fades or passes away, while the Spirit of God continues with us to this day." (notes)

Paul is interpreting Exodus 34.29-35 from a christological point of view. Paul is claiming, from a strong Jewish background, that the law received by Moses, a law written in stone is a law that condemns those who do not comply to death. But the law given through Jesus is a law written in the Spirit on our hearts. This new law lasts for eternity whereas the old law had a limited life. The old law promised only death for their was no concept at that time of an eternal life. However in Jesus we are promised eternal life. Glory be to God.
