Paula Price
The Holy Spirit is another intercessor who will guide us into all truth just as Jesus did with the disciples when he walked with them. Jesus was the initial paraclete when he walked the earth teaching the disciples. The Holy Spirit will abide or live within us to continue what Jesus promised. Jesus is in heaven interceding for us with the Father and the Holy Spirit is who is left with us to continue leading and guiding us and speaking truth to us as it is given from God. He was with the disciples along with Jesus and when Jesus ascended into heaven he told them to go to Jerusalem and wait for the Spirit of truth who will lead them into all truth and righteousness. He will be in the disciples after Jesus leaves them. at the day and time of Pentecost, they will receive the Holy Spirit to be their teacher and to help them in all things Holy and righteous and of God. RD35
Q1. (John 14:15-17) In what sense is the Holy Spirit "another" Paraclete? Who was the initial Paraclete? In what way can the Holy Spirit replace him? How was he "with" the disciples? When will he be "in" them? The Holy Spirit is 'another' Paraclete or our comforter and helper because when Jesus was on earth he was the same, the first one, but when Jesus completed his purpose on earth he said to the disciples that he would ask the father to send God the Holy Spirit who was just like him, so 'another' Jesus was the initial Paraclete. The Holy Spirit will replace Jesus as an interior presence, always with them to guide and instruct them. He will be in them when Jesus was glorified by the father, after Jesus finished his mission on earth.

Q1a Jesus told the disciples that He was going to ask the Father to send "another Comforter" Who is like Jesus in purpose, power and divinity, but unlike Jesus in form. b. Jesus was their "in Person" Paraclete, and as such was their Comforter, Guide, Teacher, Friend and their revelation of the Father, but in flesh. He said "If you've seen Me you've seen the Father...I and the Father are One. c. Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Triune God, so was able to replace Jesus in a more intimate and ever present way, living inside them. He fulfilled Jesus' promise to "never leave nor forsake" the believer. d. The disciples had access to Jesus just about constantly as they walked and talked with Him, ate with Him, drank with Him, laughed with Him, learned from His own lips and voice, had their questions answered, felt His touch and closeness....John laid his head on Jesus' breast at table, for instance. e. Holy Spirit would indwell them at Pentecost.
Old Jerry
The sense that the Holy Spirit “another” Paraclete is that Jesus was the Paraclete while he was here on earth. The way that the Holy Spirit can replace him is that he is going to be in us and will be able to direct us when we need it. The Paraclete was with the disciples when Jesus was here on earth. He will be “in” them at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit is given out.

Who was the initial Paraclete? In what way can the Holy Spirit replace him? How was he “with” the disciples? When will he be “in” them? There was already a Helper (Paraclete) in the form of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is another one. Because Jesus would be betrayed, slain, risen and ascended to the Father, and thereafter no longer physically with the disciples, the Holy Spirit would replace him as an internal presence. He was "with" the disciples, because when Jesus was physically present with the disciples, Jesus taught in the power of the Spirit. He will be "in" the disciples, because they will be baptised in the Spirit thereafter.
LissaR
The Holy Spirit is another Paraclete for the disciples because He is unseen compared to Jesus, their first Paraclete. The HS is another Paraclete because He will live inside the disciples (and all believers), versus Jesus who lived and walked outside of them. Jesus was our initial Paraclete. He was the disciples' teacher, comforter, helper and friend. The Holy Spirit can replace Jesus in that they are co-equal members of the Trinity. The Holy Spirit can carry out the same activities as Jesus, serving as Counselor, friend, helper, instructor, guide, and power source for God's work. The difference is that the Holy Spirit will reside within all believers 24/7, whereas Jesus lived a human life, occupying a single body with a limited lifespan. The Holy Spirit was with Jesus because when Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit descended upon Him as a dove. From that point on, Jesus carried out His ministry with the Spirit indwelling him, so he operated as a man in the power of the Spirit, fulfilling the will of the Father. He was an example of how it ought to be with us -- receiving the Spirit and then serving the Lord in the power of the Spirit because He indwells us. Rosesam
Q1. (John 14:15-17) In what sense is the Holy Spirit “another” Paraclete? Who was the initial Paraclete? In what way can the Holy Spirit replace him? How was he “with” the disciples? When will he be “in” them? Jesus was their Paraclete in person. He was their helper, comforter, guide during His earthly ministry. But He promised His disciples that He would send another Paraclete, just like Him in all sense of the term but in a much more broader and intimate way. Whereas Jesus was limited because He was in the flesh, there would be no such limitation with the Holy Spirit. Jesus was their initial Paraclete. The Holy Spirit would do exactly what Jesus did with the disciples. Based on the Greek prepositions used, there are three ways the Holy Spirit can be involved with mankind. Holy Spirit is “with” them wooing them to Jesus. Holy Spirit is “in” them taking up residence in a born again believer. Holy Spirit comes “upon” them, empowering them to accomplish His purpose in their lives. In the lives of the disciples, the Holy Spirit was with them, because Jesus was with them and Holy Spirit was in Jesus. After the resurrection of Jesus, when Jesus breathed upon them and said, “Receive ye the Holy Spirit” He came in them. It is noteworthy to see that when Adam was created, God “breathed” on Him the breath of life and Adam became the son of God. Then when the Son of God “breathed” on His disciples, they became the sons of God (John 1:12). The curse that came upon mankind through the fall of Adam was reversed at the cross. And the same creative act of breathing upon was done both by the Father (Adam) and the Son (disciples).
Ang B
Jesus was the initial Paraclete who walked along side the disciples. The Holy Spirit will be Sent by God on the request of Jesus and will live in them to replace the outward presence of Jesus. He will reside in them after Jesus' death on the cross. The Holy Spirit is "another" Paraclete because Jesus is the first Paraclete and He said that He will " ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor (paraklētos) to be with you forever." Jesus was the initial Paraclete. The Holy Spirit "replaces" Jesus in the sense that while Jesus lived alongside the disciples, the Holy Spirit lives within us. He was with the disciples within them. MyRockOfAges
Q1. (John 14:15-17) In what sense is the Holy Spirit "another" Paraclete? Who was the initial Paraclete? In what way can the Holy Spirit replace him? How was he "with" the disciples? When will he be "in" them? Holy Spirit is another Paraclete - Counselor to His disciples and to us. Jesus was with His disciples and taught them and guided them to walk by faith in the power of the Spirit. Jesus promised that Father will send another Counselor (like Him) to be with them (and us) and help us the walk of faith in His power. This Counselor is Holy Spirit. Jesus was the initial Paraclete who was abiding with His disciples and they are aware of this Paraclete unlike the world that doesn’t know Him. Holy Spirit will be our Counselor, Comforter, Helper, Advocate like Jesus to us ,in us and leading us and helping us. Holy Spirit replaces Jesus today for all the believers on the earth , as He counsels, comforts, helps, leads and empowers us to walk victorious faith life in Christ. He was with the disciples as Paraclete (Jesus) and with us today as Father promised, Holy Spirit came upon the disciples on the day of Pentecost and baptized them and lived in them and is also in us those who are born again in Christ. In what way can the Holy Spirit replace him? How was he “with” the disciples? When will he be “in” them? The initial Paraclete was Jesus, he walked among the disciples as their counselor, friend, adviser and so on. However, the Father promised to send a Paraclete that would reside within them, guiding them along on their journey. Because they knew Jesus, they would also know the Spirit, unlike the World. Who was the initial Paraclete? The Holy Spirit was to act as the Spirit of Christ once he ascended to Heaven following his resurrection. Jesus, who was the original "advocate" for man, was the intermediary to God the Father. In what way can the Holy Spirit replace him? How was he “with” the disciples? When will he be “in” them? By the time the Holy Spirit arrives to assume the role of counselor to the disciples, it is to continue to lead them in the ways of Christ's teaching. The Spirit would become the mind, heart and soul of the disciples so that their lives would always be lead in the way that they were taught. Celia P
In what sense is the Holy Spirit "another" Paraclete? Just like Jesus, The Holy Spirit teaches us the will of the Father, and helps us to walk in His statutes.Who was the initial Paraclete? Our Lord Jesus Christ, Yeshua Hamashiach. In what way can the Holy Spirit replace him? The disciples were connected to the Father through Jesus. When Jesus ascended, returned to Father, He asked Father to send the Holy Spirit to live within us so that, we can still be continuously connected with Father, to bring into remembrance all that Jesus taught, in order to know and do Fathers will, and to be guided, and protected by Him.How was he "with" the disciples? He was with the disciples, as the Spirit was with Jesus, and Jesus abided with them. When will he be "in" them? When Jesus went back to the Father, Father sent the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of fire, power, and truth, to live in them, The Living Water of Life, to flow through them. Love and Blessings to you all. Krissi
a) In what sense is the Holy Spirit “another” Paraclete? Perhaps I'm a bit backward, here, but I find it interesting that God and Jesus are also paracletes. I wonder if the trinity has more to do with the ROLES of the godhead than the PERSONS of the godhead. If so, than it makes sense that all of them were paracletes. The Holy Spirit was one of three paracletes. b) Who was the initial Paraclete? Probably God, then Jesus, then the Holy Spirit, but time isn't linear with God, so to Him, there may not have been an "initial," but only concurrent existences. c) In what way can the Holy Spirit replace him? The physical body of Jesus is gone. What we have is God expressed as the Holy Spirit, which is the same Spirit in the OT, as we saw in lesson one. d) How was he “with” the disciples? With or In. With seems to be a lesser degree, which makes sense since Jesus told them to wait until they got the greater amount of the Holy Spirit after his ascension. e) When will he be “in” them? In is the greater degree. The Holy Spirit was always there, just as God was always there, but in a confined role, perhaps. The Holy Spirit was "unleashed" after Pentecost. How was he constrained before?

Katy
Q1. Jesus has been the disciples Paraclete while He was with them on earth. He has been their friend, guide, helper and counsellor but now He is returning to the Father in Heaven. Now Jesus is going to send them ‘another’ Paraclete, who is the Hole Spirit. As part of the God head , three in one, the Holy Spirit will replace Jesus but He will not be in human form as Jesus was , He will dwell within them. Jesus tells the disciples to stay in Jerusalem until they had been clothed with power from on high.Luke 24v 49. At Pentecost the Holy Spirit was given to them. Niyonka16
Q1. (John 14:15-17) In what sense is the Holy Spirit "another" Paraclete? ANSWER: in John’s Gospel, a group of five passages refer to the Holy Spirit as “Paraclete” or “Spirit of truth” (14:16, 17, 25, 26; 15:26, 27; 16:7–11, 13–15). The Spirit will be another brokering access to Jesus after he left for the Father. The implication is that Jesus is a Paraclete, and the Spirit of Truth is “another” Paraclete, that will serve as Jesus' substitute when He leaves for his Father's home. In what way can the Holy Spirit replace Him? ANSWER: To have the Holy Spirit as our Paraclete is to have God Himself indwelling us as believers. The Holy Spirit is another advocate of the same kind as Jesus, our advocate on earth to remind us of what is right and wrong and keep us on the right path, just as Jesus is our advocate before the throne of God pleading our case in the heavenly court. How was He "with" the disciples? ANSWER: Jesus stood before them and said, “'Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. ' And with that he breathed on them and said, 'Receive the Holy Spirit. When will He be "in" them? ANSWER: In the event documented by John, Jesus does not give them the entirety of the gift of the Spirit, which they will receive at Pentecost, but only that which they will require for the purpose of remitting the sins of others [John 20:23]. Scripture tells us the disciples were given the Holy Spirit before the Day of Pentecost, and, they were told to remain in Jerusalem to receive “a power” from the Holy Spirit.
