However, when it comes to believing in God, there is where the difference lay. The Christian believe in God and lives according to the commandments of God. The demons opposes the commandments of God.

Q3. (2:18-19) What is the difference between the "belief" of a demon and the "belief" of a practicing Christian? The "belief" of a non-practicing Christian?

The belief of a Christian is one of submission to Jesus. The belief of a demon is that of knowing Jesus exists, but opposing Him.

A non-practicing Christian, I guess is someone who is a "cultural Christian", who was brought up to have a strong moral sense of things. They dont believe in the work of the Holy Spirit and only turn to God in prayer when something goes wrong. Not a born again Christian in the Biblical sense of the word. They would not know much about the character of God and so not be able to develop much faith in Him and would not understand much about His great love.

Q3. (2:18-19) What is the difference between the "belief" of a demon and the "belief" of a practicing Christian? The "belief" of a non-practicing Christian?

Demons do believe in one God. Christiansdo as well, but the difference is that a true Christian follows and lives for Christ, trust in Him and accept Him into their hearts. Christians have this inytellectual belief, but also have a belief where it counts, in their hearts and minds as well. Demons, are the complete opposite.

Non practising Christians rely ion their intellectual beliefs only. Their hearts and minds have no desire to focus on anyone else but themselves. They don't live by the precepts of the Word, e.g. have faith and works. They are spiritually dead because of this.

Q3. (2:18-19) What is the difference between the "belief" of a demon and the "belief" of a practicing Christian?

The belief of a demon is a dead belief..It does not lead to faith and salvation..It is a belief that arises from knowing the power of God and fearing God...Belief of a christian is by the virtue of experiencing and accepting Jesus as a personal savior..It is the faith that leads to his salvation..

The "belief" of a non-practicing Christian?

I do not think that the belief of a non practising christian is any different from that of a demon..And I cant understand the concept of being a christian and not practising..As far as I am concerned my faith and christianity challenges me every day of my life and in such a condition I cant take things for granted and hope that being a namesake christian is enough...

Demons believe that God exists, but the practicing Christian has given their life to Christ. The Christian believes in his or her heart that Jesus is Lord of all, that the Word of God is true, and all the promises of God will come to pass. The practicing Christian takes on the likeness of Christ. The non-practicing Christian evidently has not believed on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Q3. (2:18-19)

What is the difference between the "belief" of a demon and the "belief" of a practicing Christian?

The "belief" of a non-practicing Christian?

It is essential to believe in the existence of God, but it is not sufficient. We read that even the demons believe in the existence of God and that they shudder at the thought of their eventual punishment by Him. The reaction of the Christian is exactly the opposite; we have peace with God, knowing that our future is secure in Him. This we see in Romans 5:1;

Q3. (2:18-19) What is the difference between the "belief" of a demon and the "belief" of a practicing Christian? The "belief" of a non-practicing Christian?

The demon knows God is real and shudders because they know the power of God. They can see the wonders that exist all around that came into exsistance as God spoke. He has that same power today and forever demons know this. A practicing Christian shows his belief by the way he or she lives. The love of God that He pores into the Christian will pore through and out of the Christian in the form of works. Helping others and building others up. The belief of a non-practicing Christian is just that. There is no fruit in their life. They believe that God exists but there is no fruit. They believe that going to church is all there is to Christianity.

Q3. (2:18-19) What is the difference between the "belief" of a demon and the "belief" of a practicing Christian? The "belief" of a non-practicing Christian?

The demons believe but do not submit themselves to Christ. Their belief does not show love, compation, repentance, or the fear of God. A practicing Christians` belief show submission, love, compation, mercy, and fear of God but in a good way. PROVERBS 9 VS 10 SAYS "THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM, AND THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE HOLY ONE IS UNDERSTANDING" . Our faith helps us with our works, a practicing Christian. A non- practicing Christian I believe is being still, not wanting or willing to grow in Christ. They are looking the part, playing the part but that is all. As we study His word our hunger for Him and knowledge grows, feeding the Spirit He gives us freely which in turn with His help we submit to Christ and are guided and helped to do His work. ;)

Q3. (2:18-19) What is the difference between the "belief" of a demon and the "belief" of a practicing Christian? The "belief" of a non-practicing Christian?

The word belief and believe in or trust in have two very different meanings. For example, in John 3:16 the term believe in means to rely and trust in God. Whereas, James here is using the term to know or believe that something is. So James is saying that the Demons know that God exists but does not trust in God. If Christians believe like the Demons than we are not a practicing Christian. A practicing Christian trust in God and also knows He is.

Q3. (2:18-19) What is the difference between the "belief" of a demon and the "belief" of a practicing Christian? The "belief" of a non-practicing Christian?

A demon believes that there is a God because has seen God,and fears him, but there belief is nothing like a practising Christian. A pracising Christian has a sure faith, belief and hope in Jesus Christ, and accepance that JC died for their sins and are now saved by what JC death & resurrection.He/she now wants to just do God's will for their lives, and delights in doing so.

The belief of a non-practising Christian is just words, intellectual knowledge and is not active in any way, therefore belief is "dead".

Whereas a demon does not respect and obey God, he definitely knows that there is only one true God and who He is. The belief of a practicing Christian is faith in God as we are dependent on Him, we trust in Him, not just believe that He exists and our faith will produce good works, doing things that help others---unlike a non-practicing Christian whose faith produces no works, who think they need to have only faith whether they have works or not. A non-practicing Christian just have their belief in the fact that God exists; they even may be religious and say the right things but faith without works is dead.

There is a belief that does not incorporate faith. The belief of a demon is a belief that knows the existence of God but does not place his trust in God. The belief of a practicing Christian knows who God is and has submitted to His authority. According to James, the belief of a non-practicing Christian is unproductive and ineffective. It looks good and sounds good but is dead. A profession of faith which bears no fruit is an empty profession.

The difference between the “belief” of a demon and the “belief” of a practicing Christian is that intellectually the demon knows that there is only one God but he does not put his trust in Him. Where the practicing Christian not only believes that there is one God but he also put his trust in Him. If a non-practicing Christian believes in a God then his belief system would be the same as the demon. He has not put his trust in God.

Demons know who God is and they hate Him for it and are doing everything in their power to try to defeat God and His followers. In a way, demons are the ultimate example of faith without works.

A believer knows who God is and loves, worships and serves Him. Part of this service and worship is the works that we do in His name for the Glory of God.

As far as a non practicing Christian I really couldn't say. A non practicing Christian may be someone who is not genuinely a believer or it may be a genuine Christian that has been so wounded in spiritual battle that they have dropped out of the fight. That person may just need someone to come along side and encourage them along.

Q3. (2:18-19) What is the difference between the "belief" of a demon and the "belief" of a practicing Christian? The "belief" of a non-practicing Christian?

The demons believe God exists. Demons are fallen angels. Loyal to Lucifer, they were cast out of Heaven along with him and really have no choice but to continue be loyal. Their fate is sealed. They have no hope of redemption. They, along with Satan, Lucifer, the devil, call him what you will, are going to be cast into the lake of fire following Christ's second coming. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I don't think demons have free will. They are unwaveringly loyal to Satan. They've been made that way. In the same way, I think regular angels are unwaveringly loyal to God. I think the angels are under the authority of the archangels, like armies under commanders only more so. If the archangels are loyal to God then their subordinates are also loyal. So when Satan fell, so did his army of angels, thereby becoming "anti-God" as well.

There are so many diverse writings about angels and demons that it's hard to know for sure what the Bible actually teaches about their belief systems because that is not the purpose of the Bible. Suffice to say here that the demons DO believe God exists because they were made that way. They are spiritual beings, not flesh and blood, and inhabit the spirit realm. They are the powers and principalilties referred to by the Apostle Paul against whom we battle, using the armor of God.

They also are fully aware of the fate in store for them in the end times, a fate from which there is absolutely no escape! No wonder they tremble with fear, as some translations render this passage!

So, the demons believe there is one God and tremble with fear at the very mention if His name!!

Practicing Christians believe IN God. We believe that God exists and that His Holy Spirit inhabits our lives and is sanctifying us in preparation for an eternity of being with Him. There is the whole Apostle's Creed that lays out better than I can explain here what Christians believe about God and Jesus, but it's certainly daimetrically opposite to what the demons believe. Our belief in God gives us hope when ordinarily there would be no hope. Our belief gives us joy. We certainly don't tremble with fear at the mention of God and Jesus. We rejoice in the fact that we're part of God's Kingdom!

The belief of non-practicing Christians? They believe that everything will turn out OK in the end. That God will somehow not judge then too harshly, pat them on the head and let them into Heaven along with the practicing Christians.

Q3. (2:18-19) What is the difference between the "belief" of a demon and the "belief" of a practicing Christian? The "belief" of a non-practicing Christian?

As practicing Christians we know that the Lord Jesus has over come the world and it's worldly desires. We know that demon's exist, but Jesus has over come them. We are to recognize demonic spirits and their ways and rebuke them in Jesus name.

As non practicing Christians, even though they are believers, may not recognize the evil around them unless they practice their faith and put it to work. We know that demon's know who Jesus is and tremble, being believers who have put their entire trust in the Lord can recognize these evil personalities and rebuke in the name of the Lord.

The difference between the belief of demons and that of those practicing Christianity are demons believe and are fearful of God, however they show only the character of a Christian life. They can deceive and know their time on earth is short. Practicing Christians live out their faith by replacing their old life with a new life in Christ that shows the heart change of true Christian belief. The non-practicing Christian openly declares God but, their lives do not show a God-centered perspective. They believe their works alone can save them from an eternity without God.

  • Pastor Ralph changed the title to Q15. Believing Demons
  • 1 month later...

We've been asked to compare the beliefs of different categories of people and beings.

  1. Evil or Satanic beings, not of the earthly order. They are hyper-aware of God's existence, perhaps more than those of us on earth, fear His power and hate Him. They hate their own inferior position and yet struggle in a battle they may know they'll lose.
  2. Non-Christians. These are people who deny God's existence, who hear and laugh or look away. They are unaware of God's existence and do not fear or love Him.
  3. Carnal Christians. These people acknowledge God's existence but are either too self-absorbed or too confused to submit, so they live uncomfortably in this world, pushing away God. Sometimes they keep the trapping of faith so they feel a bit less guilt -- these are the Christians that Pastor Ralph refers to in his description.
  4. Christians. They believe God exists. They have a relationship with Him, unlike carnal Christians who have no relationship and are more like non-Christians this way. They may, at times, question God or his purpose and plan, but they do so coming back to Him, knowingly. I think what makes the difference between a carnal and a practicing Christian is the trajectory of their respective faiths. A Christian grows in faith. Matures. Thinks more deeply about God as the years pass, and, yes, love Him more deeply. Strangely, the content of the faith of Christians and Satanic beings may not be that much different -- we both acknowledge God's power, majesty, claims over the earth, etc. and we both rebel, at times, against God's sovereignty. What separates us is how we allow the presence of the Holy Spirit within us to expand and change us.
