What does "Christ was raised from the dead" (6:4b) correspond to in baptism? "Buried" with Him we were through baptism . Not Buried like Him but buried with Him . Christ as our representative through His death. When we excepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal Saver we also died from our flesh ways and took upon us the ways of Christ as He walked upon this earth, We are in this world but not of this world we have to die day by day to the will of our flesh and be strong in the will of Christ Jesus. We have to walk in the light of Jesus Christ so that we are strong in Him so that Satan will flee from us and when we sin we ask for forgiveness. Christ was raised from the dead correspond to in baptism , coming up from the water symbolizes living a new life, it been stated by Paul's indication that rising up out of the water is symbolic of us rising from the water grave to a new life. Christ was raised from the dead corresponds to our comeing up out of the submurged position under water and standing above the waters breathing and living . Coming out from the water depicts resurrection. This explains the significance of babtism by immersion in showing more clearly the death and resurrection of our Lor Jesus Christ. June Posted October 4, 2008 Report Share Posted October 4, 2008 In total immersion we are buried when we go under and when we come up out we are resurrected with Christ. We were buried with Christ through baptism, therefore we will be resurrected like Christ. Being our representative, Christ died for us, so when He died we died also. When we are raised out of the water we are identifying with Christ in the newness of life we are given when Christ rose from the dead. The same as He is seated in the heavenlies we are now seated in the heavenlies as we are identified with Him. Praise God for all He has done for us. God Bless!! Christ was raised from the dead corresponds to new life in Christ by his resurrection, when we come out of the water we have a new life that is sealed by the Holy Spirit. Buried corresponds to Jesus being buried in the tomb for three days and the believer, during baptism, being submersed in water as an act of symbolic identification with Jesus' burial. The believer's sin nature or natural man is buried liked Jesus was buried. During baptism, as the believer is raised up out of the water, it identifies the believer with Jesus' resurrection on the third day. It identifies with being "born again." It refers to the act of crucifying the carnal nature, the dependence on human wisdom and peer thinking, the perpetuation of unholy behaviours and focus on self. These things have nothing to do with the Christian Life. "Christ raised from the dead" corresponds to Christ being raised up in us to replace the old carnal nature. In its place the Spirit of God inspires and motivates all that we do. We give place to His love as our motivations, and to the Holy Spirit as our teacher and counsellor. We seek to have the mind of Christ. We are now to be the very hands, feet, eyes and ears of Jesus Christ walking again on this earth. We are His righteousness before the people. We are no longer our own, but bought with a price to do the works that He has prepared for us to walk in. We are a tiny part of the living organism that is the Bride of Christ, and everything we do affects the whole of the rest of the bride just as the skin, or the liver or the kidneys affect the body in which they live. We are responsible to become a healthy, functional part of that body which takes its life from the Holy Spirit of the living God, and feeds hungrily on His mighty Word. When they refer to baptism as a 'burial,' it means this is when you chose to go down in the grave with Jesus. It is a literal death of your former self. The 'self' that chooses greed, ****. etc. over giving, forgiving and all the divine things Jesus taught. This is the 'newness' of life; the power Jesus received when he conquered over sin and death and was raised up from the dead. Thank you so much for this Word. Rom 6:4 When we were baptized, we died and were buried with Christ. We were baptized, so that we would live a new life, as Christ was raised to life by the glory of God the Father. We are buried with him - Alluding to the ancient manner of baptizing by immersion. Controversy has flooded this subject but I believe that Paul was speaking about what was done at that time and people would understand and sense the meaning. During baptism by immersion, the whole body is put under the water, which seemed to say, the man is drowned, is dead; and, when he came up out of the water, he seemed to have a resurrection to life; the man is risen again; he is alive! Christ raising from the dead, we are brought out of the water (his resurection) and we are free from sin and death because death comes from sin due to adams orignal sin. We are free of inherited sin. Rom 6:4 Therefore, through baptism we were buried with him into his death so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the Father's glory, we too may live an entirely new life. I believe that "buried" corresponds to being physically inmersed in the water where as "Christ was raised from the dead corresponds to the resurrected life, the newness of life having been grafted, inmerse, become under the influence of my great God and Savior.
