It's most important to mentor the younger generations so that they can carry on the word of God. As for as how much time should be spent on each one, the most important thing is to teach the Gospel. You also do that in your day by day living in how you live your life, your witness. The elders in our small church have taken the younger members under their wings to prepare us for the work of the church that suits us best.

It is important for pastors and church leaders to execute a strategy of mentoring teachers and elders in a congregation so that they can assume the role of teaching also. In today's congregation the large crowd is assembled for corporate worship and the preaching/teaching of the Word. When interactive teaching is given the congregation should be broken out into small groups led by men and women who have been taught the Word of God, with time given for questions from the students to be answered by other students or the person leading the group.

The teachers and elders should be taught consistently. The time devoted to this teaching may vary depending on the spiritual maturity of the one being taught. The time spent in administrative and programs should be minimal compared to the time spent in teaching. At least two-thirds of the church leaders' time should be spent in teaching reliable, faithful men.

In following Jesus' example. These should be mentored so that the cycle continues. This should be most important.

This IS important because of the need for this teaching to continue beyond the four walls of the particular church building – and also to continue on beyond the life of that pastor or church leader. . . .

In comparison to time spent in administration (which is important) and programs and then time spent in teaching and training future leaders – the time, energy and effort afforded to teaching and training future leaders should be of utmost importance and should therefore exceed the time spent in administration and programs many-fold. . . B)

The reason that it is important for pastors and church leaders to execute a strategy of mentoring teachers and elders in a congregation is so that there is somebody to carry on the work of the Lord.

I think that most of the time of the pastor should be devoted to this teaching of future leaders. The time spent in administration and programs should be handled by somebody else. The pastor should only know what is happening in these arenas.

It is important for pastors and church leaders to execute a strategy of mentoring teachers and elders in a congregation so that they will be able to teach others as well.

I think that teaching of future leaders should be of top importance and priority.

Jesus said we must spread the Word of God.

We must teach others so that they can also spread the Word of God, and we must teach them well so that they will teach correct and the truth.

Jesus didnt give any instructions that we must do admin work, he said we must spread the Word. Admin will help us therein, but it must never be the focus.

Programs can help us to spread knowledge of the Word, but in the end our focus must stay of God and to spread His word.

There needs to be a focused strategy on mentoring teachers and elders in the congregation who are willing to be mentored and are serious about it or you are wasting your time.  Quality, serious, spiritual people must be identified and mentored for ministry.

 

Time spend in mentoring future leadership must be greater than time spent in administration and programs.  In fact, you can assign or hire people to be administrators and program coordinators.  Pastors need to be mentoring future church leadership.

1a)It’s impt to mentor teachers&elders to ensure the gospel&Christ’s teachings are faithfully saved&accurately passed  onto our congregations.Paul says pastors need to invest in the future,for gospel to carry on.Need to identify as part of this process men&women anthropos ,generic word for human beings of either gender.who are i) faithful, dependable, reliable in what they'll do,Also for those who are ii)Worthy teachers (by their maturity and godly life,in sense the centurion doesn't feel worthy for Jesus to enter his house (Matthew 8:8)Those who are hikanos is "sufficient, adequate, large enough-pertaining to meeting a standard, fit, appropriate, competent, qualified," coonotation"worthy, good enough. Those who have been well taught in the truth and are able to stand up to the challenges of the Christian walk.Special time should be invested in these.
b)Jesus spent the majority of his time nurturing /teaching his disciples,leaving administration to others.Therefore pastors should delegate admin &detailed planning to others suitably gifted.Everyone has a spiritual gift to be used keeping family of God vibrant &strong.

The Church is not meant to be an incubator.  It's very important that the congregants understand 1 Peter 2:9.  They all have individual ministries; endowed with various charisms.  Paul's vision of the church is very important; he refers to the Church as the Body of Christ many times in his Epistles.  For the Church to function properly, it needs God ordained teachers and elders.  Five fold ministries as detailed in Ephesians are described in the Epistle to the Ephesians.  Paul knew that the local church needed a firm ecclesial structure as well as holy ordained men to function as pastors, evangelists,prophets, and Apostles.   The role of teachers and elders consist of perfecting the saints, edify, unify in faith and doctrine, and bring men into maturity in Christ.

Administration and programs have to play second fiddle to mentoring "new blood".  In the Acts of the Apostles, the Apostles commissioned deacons to feed the poor, and other tasks so that the Apostles could be focus on their Apostolic missions.   Evangelism is the crucial reason why the local church exists.   It is not a venue for entertainment, social affairs, yoga classes or judo.  Time and time again, we read how the HOLY SPIRIT had such a prominent position in the early Church.   The local church is truly a soul saving station in the community.

Mentoring is future-oriented; it's not for the present. It should be seen as a sacrifice because you don't get to experience the fruit of your labor, particularly if you mentor younger people. It's much like putting away "seed corn" to plant for the next year rather than eating it yourself.

Though some people seem particularly gifted as mentors and teachers (teaching is a spiritual gift), all leaders are tasked with mentoring. If the church is large enough, perhaps someone can be hired to do just mentoring -- to find promising people "who are faithful and able to teach others," as Paul put it, and then slowly and gently discover and develop their gifts. Still, even if there are people at the church who are particularly good at mentoring, every leader should feel compelled to seek out and mentor promising leaders of the next generation.

Note that not everyone is slated for leadership.

What about the 90 percent, or so, of the congregation that will never lead a congregation? They need teaching, too, and should get it in sermons, personal study such as this, and in Sunday school and small groups. Mentoring, however, is geared toward the tenth, tomorrow's leaders, so that the church as an institution thrives in the future.

I have no idea how individual church leaders should decide how to spend their time, but wish that more of them would quietly take a few congregants aside to faithfully and loyally mentor them. Admin and programs are important because a church can't run without them: sadly, a church can run without mentoring ... until the leaders of that generation die and there is no one capable of stepping into their shoes. Again, mentoring is future oriented.

Pastors and those teaching in the church should teach and mentor those  who are to pass the ministry to others and  to receive sound doctrine so they can in turn bring sound teaching to their congregation.  More time should be given to teaching and equipping than administration.

For the church, a plan of action and a shared goal of mentorship is fundamental in order for the sustainment of the word of God. 

 

This may require a rearranging of priorities to give time towards discipleship classes and groups, for the training of disciples the way Jesus commanded.

 

 Proverbs 27:17 says: "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." 

 

Mentoring is a particular kind of discipleship. Through mentoring, an older believer, equips younger saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, i.e., preparing to pass the baton so that God's word endures from generation to generation. 

 

In other words, as we study and learn truths about God, we continually pass on to others what we’ve received. 

 

Now, just imagine had Jesus not made disciples. His ministry, as amazing as it was, would have ended when He ascended to heaven!

 

—Furthermore, if Paul had not made Timothy and others as disciples, his great ministry would have ended when he was killed in the pris

on in Rome.

As Jesus has taught many thousands of people, but he passed on the gospel for safekeeping and faithful transmission to twelve disciples ("learners"), whom he named as apostles ("sent ones"). Jesus invested the bulk of his ministry with these twelve men since they were the core of his strategy to carry the gospel to the world after his death. In the same way we must choose entrusted men to pass on GOD's WORD.

How much time should be devoted to this teaching of future leaders vs. the time spent in administration and programs?

To teach GOD's WORD is more important than administrative task, so my take on this is 80% on GOD's and 20% on administrative task.

It is vital that the tenets of the Christian faith as faithfully taught are passed on to the next generation. As well the standards that are required for passing on these truths are very high.  Those who as responsible for pastoring, teaching and helping the church and the church family must be mentored into the correct knowledge and attitude to tend to their flocks.  Focus of tie should be on the future leaders rather than administration and programs which are important too, but do not last for eternity.

It is important for pastors and church leaders to execute a strategy of mentoring teachers and elders in a congregation in order to prepare others with the necessary tools needful to continue others the the truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Word of God.  If properly taught those who are taught will have the confidence and ability to continue in the footsteps of their pastors and leaders.

Administration and programs are important but the teaching of the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ is more important therefore more time should be devoted to teaching.  Some learn faster that others so the amount of time need depends on the person being taught, but all should be fit to teach the foolish.

Q1.It is vitally important to have a strategy within a church to teach and nurture mature godly people to enable them to take up the baton as present pastors and leaders get older or have to draw back for health or other reasons. In this way the church is carrying on spreading the gospel to each generation and further afield.There is nothing more important than teaching and teaching well those who aspire to teaching and who are gifted by God for this ministry. As much time as is needed should be taken to ensure a prospective teacher is adequately trained and capable of teaching a congregation. This time spent learning and being mentored will make the student comfortable and confident in what they are doing.

ANSWER: Here are six reasons mentoring is crucial for Senior Pastors:

  1. It helps keep the Senior Pastor connected to the outer rim of the church. The longer a Senior Pastor is at a church, the more he is naturally pulled to the center of the organization. When this happens, it’s easy for him to lose relevance with the people the church is trying to reach.
  2. It protects the Senior Pastor from 100% crisis management. The Senior Pastor can be consumed with crisis management…praying for and dealing with people whose houses are on fire (i.e., marriage problems, addictions, etc.), This produces sporadic, “one-and-done discipling.”
  3. It models “leading from the front” if he intentionally engages with a Radical Mentoring group, it removes the excuse from literally every man in the church.
