Q4. Full Devotion to Christ

Recommended Posts

  • 1 month later...

Paul wasn't telling anyone to make a specific choice either way, except as led and gifted by God.  But he was describing the benefits of celibacy so that anyone called to that would understand what it was to mean.  Celibacy frees a person from the necessary focus on things of the world that are required of a married person with spouse and family to care for.  Celibacy provides the opportunity to be fully focused on “the things of the Lord” and “how to be holy in body and spirit.”  It affords the peace of good order and undivided devotion to God.

Married believers have many other obligations that are inherent to family and children, and Paul assured that there is no sin in that.  They must attend to their relationship as husband and wife, and as parents.  That means it just takes more work and determination to focus and “set your mind on things above”.  On its own, the task and privilege of raising children is work of the kingdom, with many spiritual blessings and lessons to learn along the way!  The beauty of that can be that 2 fully submitted and united partners can build each other up and accomplish the work God gives them together as a family.

Living a celibate life is good because you focus on how you can please the Lord. Your life is all for Him to use to enhance His kingdom. Married believers can maximize full devotion to the Lord by each refraining from sexual intercourse and spend a short period for prayer because God will strengthen each spouse to be dedicated to each other and the Lord.

You are not distracted therefore you can focus fully on God. My focus should then to be a servant of God in all situations.

How can married believers maximize "full devotion" to the Lord? By serving God together. To build each other into the Kingdom more and more. We spent a huge amount of time together, thus your spouse will be the person God uses most to sanctify you. We learn most of how to live a godly live by being faithful and loving to each other

They are free to worship & serve God with their entire life, not being burdened about providing for a family or making a wife or husband happy.

Married believers can serve God together.  They must meet family needs together and together serve!  They can show true devotion to the Lord when they are working on their marriages and leading the children to the Lord.

Q4. (1 Corinthians 7:25-35) The disadvantages of remaining unmarried include being deprived of sexual relations. What are the advantages of celibacy that Paul discusses in these verses?

Paul's belief was that the return of Jesus to earth was imminent, and urged believers to "remain as you are"...single if unmarried, married if married. He outlines the benefits of singleness in terms of spreading the Gospel as:

Freedom from anxiety and distressing care of a spouse.

Energy to serve and please the Lord.

Undivided interests...focus on Christ.

Wholly separated and set apart in body and spirit for the Lord's work.

How can married believers maximize “full devotion” to the Lord?

Ideally, both are believers, with Christ in the center of their marriage, serving both one another and serving the Lord together. Where one spouse is a believer and the other is not...yet...(hopefully), the believing spouse serves first, the spouse and children and where one is led by the Holy Spirit to serve outside the home without creating resentment toward God, in the unbelieving spouse.

A). The celibate person is able to devote more time and energy to seeking to please the Lord -- it just stands to reason.

#

Q). How can married believers maximize "full devotion" to the Lord?

A). Our lives are determined by God's call, so it is our responsibility to live out that calling in whatever situation we find ourselves.

The advantages of celibacy are that a person can fully devote their life to the Lord's work. They aren't caught up in dividing their lives between the Lord's work and caring for a wife/husband/family.

Married believers can most maximize full devotion to the Lord by remaining in the call that God has put on our lives. Two married believers can be supportive of each other in this and even believers that are married to unbelievers have a special call on their lives (mainly in the way they live out their faith in their own households as a testimony to an unbelieving spouse). We need to remain faithful to our call. Whatever the situation God has us in at the time and has called us to do, we need to do with excellence and as though doing it for the Lord.

Q4. (1 Corinthians 7:25-35)

The disadvantages of remaining unmarried include being deprived of sexual relations.

What are the advantages of celibacy that Paul discusses in these verses?

How can married believers maximize "full devotion" to the Lord?

Being married or single has nothing to do with spirituality. Rather, it is based on the obedience to God (7:19). Paul feels that Christians who are single can give a more concentrated and undivided attention to the Lord’s work. While with a marriage partner, and even more with children, there is the concern that there may not be as much time for the Lord. This however, only applies to the person God has given the gift of singleness (7:7). A loving, devoted spiritual family is not only a great joy and strength to its members but also strengthens and blesses everyone they come in contact with. So, marriage does not prevent great devotion to the Lord and singleness does not guarantee it. Singleness has fewer hindrances as the partner’s interests are divided. Of course, marriage partners will not be distracted because their sexual desires are satisfied within the marriage. Also the marriage partnership can act as a powerful and motivated team effort to maximize devotion to the Lord.

Q4. (1 Corinthians 7:25-35) The disadvantages of remaining unmarried include being deprived of sexual relations. What are the advantages of celibacy that Paul discusses in these verses? How can married believers maximize “full devotion” to the Lord?

The advantage of celibacy Paul discusses are that a single person can focus on the things of the Lord and how to please Him. Being married is no sin, but will cause the attention of them to be divided, not only do they have to please the Lord, but also the needs of one another, plus all the worldly woe's that come with being married.

Married believers can maximize their full devotion to the Lord by perhaps being voluntarily celibate. Being married the couple will still enjoy the blessings of the Lord. Those that are single will enjoy even a greater joy and blessing from the Lord.

Q4. (1 Corinthians 7:25-35) The disadvantages of remaining unmarried include being deprived of sexual relations. What are the advantages of celibacy that Paul discusses in these verses? How can married believers maximize "full devotion" to the Lord?

The advantages of celibacy Paul discusses are that, celibacy will free the individual from unnecessary social marital burden and challenges. This in turn will take up much of the time needed to be committed to the Lord'service.

Married believers can maximise their time committed to the Lord by prayerfully asking for the Lord's help and power to have a balanced life that gives God the time needed and create time for the family

This disadvantages of remaining unmarried include being deprived of sexual relations. What are the advantages of celibacy that Paul discusses in these verses?

The advantages of living in a life of celibacy is not for everyone, but the ones that chooses that life will be rewarded a life that is beyond words. You can devote more of your life to the things of God and not be smothered with trying to please other's. Not many wives these days are as concerned about the need for the other partner in relation to more time for God than them. This works both ways with male and female.

HOW CAN MARRIED BELIEVERS MAXIMIZE "FULL devotion" to tHE LORD?

By putting God first in all things. Respect each other's time of "getting closer to God" with a special concern. The closer someone is closer to God, the better companion that person will be, so don't deprive each other of valuable time along with God. God Bless. Brother Mike.

The advantages of celibacy that Paul discussed was that we would that we would try to please the Lord more. If we have a spouse then our devotion is split and we wouldn’t be spending more time with the Lord. A married believer can maximize full devotion to the Lord by promoting God in the family.

The advantages of being an unmarried Christian is that you don't have many of the detractions and cares that come with being married and operating a family.  Distractions that divide time spend in serving the Lord and being wrapped in the mundane things of this world.

In all things do to the glory of God.  As a married Christian man all I do is involved in my devotion to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  My Christian walk involves all of my life.  Remember, God instituted marriage and said it is good.  Part of participating in creation is being married and having a family.   Life is not compartmentized.  A married couple and family can be and should be devoted to God.

Celibacy provides the believer more ample time to serve the LORD as he/she is not tied up in , what Paul calls, worldly issues like meeting the needs of the marital partner, becoming engrossed in those things that tend to lead one away from serving the LORD.  This is not sinful but is used to make point about the distractions that could be inherent in non-celibate people, not that it does.  Married believers should therefore concentrate more on devotion to the LORD.

Paul feel that the celibate person can spend much more time seeking to please the Lord. They can spend time fasting, time in prayer. They do not need to be so concerned with worldly things. I find that married believers need to put God first. They need to show their love and honor to God together. They can pray and study the bible together.

Q4. (1 Corinthians 7:25-35)

The disadvantages of remaining unmarried include being deprived of sexual relations.

What are the advantages of celibacy that Paul discusses in these verses?

How can married believers maximize "full devotion" to the Lord?

To be without anxiety of needing to please a spouse or having to care for one and the usual family that follows.  Full time can be devoted to the things of the Lord without having the necessary concern of family.  His basic thing was to be free from care.
Married believers can be fully devoted to the Lord also by fully being one and supporting each other in their calling.

Pastor Ralph wrote, "Do not make radical changes in your status in life unless those changes are forced on you;" his interpretation of 7.17.

I've been praying for radical changes. I will continue to do so.

When is it appropriate to beg God to change one's circumstances? Must one silently endure and suffer because our sovereign God has "ordained" this particular fate? What about the desires of one's heart that He promises to meet? What about His promise of peace, health, rest, strength ... help in times of trouble?
