Peter is reminding us that we're only on this earth for a very short time. Our true home is in heaven. Therefore we are not to think, act or behave as the majority of the world does. We need to discern between our "spirit" and our "flesh"

It reminds me that I belong to God and that I have been set apart for Him (for His use and His purpose.) Meaning that we are His hands and feet while we are here on earth. And the truth is that the world just wants us to go down with it.

Q4. (2:11) Read 1 Peter 2:11 carefully. The world tells us (1) to conform and (2) that sin won't hurt us. What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? How can this reminder help us?

Peter tells us that we are strangers and aliens and are not of the world. This is an aspect of a disciple's life which is often criticised by unbelievers because they say we are stuck up or have some sort of superiority complex. What they do not understand is that the ways of the world are the ways of sin. Peter tells us to abstain from sinful desires. We should not entertain sinful thoughts and we should not put ourselves in a position where we are exposed to behaviour which makes light of , or condones, sinful desires and treats them as natural and acceptable whether this be in places of entertainment, books, films or socialising with people who give full reign to these sinful desires. His reminder helps me because it confirms that my active avoidance of circumstances where I am tempted to give in to sinful or lustful desires is the way properly a Christian should behave.

:) In 1st Peter 2:11 he warns us to keep away from worldy desires that wage against our souls.

I believe that we must live carefully among the unbelievers, so that they will see our godly behavior and desire to know the God that we serve. As we live godly lives it brings honor and praise to God. The warning/reminder that Peter gives regarding how to live our lives helps us to understand the kind of life that we should live and also helps us understand that the world is watching us.

Peter tells us that we are aliens and strangers in this world, so we should abstain from sinful, worldly desires that war against our souls. Sinful and worldly desires that distract us from God and that can cause us to displace Jesus in our hearts. A distraction that can lead to drifting away from our faith. This remainder helps us to keep our perspective as Christians and our spiritual priorities. If permitted, temporal, worlding priorities can easily take over our lives.

Q4. (2:11) Read 1 Peter 2:11 carefully. The world tells us (1) to conform and (2) that sin won't hurt us. What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? How can this reminder help us?

There are a number of things we need to see here. First, notice the way Peter addresses these Christians. In the NIV it reads Dear friends. But the Greek word here is agapetos. It's a dirivative of the word we know as agape, which speaks of God's love.

It goes much deeper than dear friends. The word is better translated beloved. And in the Greek it carries the idea of being loved by God and by Peter. Remember, This is God's word inspired by the Holy Spirit.

The Spirit of God is essentially addressing you and me and calling us beloved. This is how God sees us, because of what Christ has done for us, not because of some inherent righteousness we possess, but because of Christ righteousness put to our account by faith.

And so God calls us beloved. But because we are beloved of God we belong to Him and are His people by virtue of His purchasing us with Christs blood. Therefore. He speaks to us as His people who are to faithfully represent Him here in this world.

And so Peter says, " I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinfful desires, which war against your soul.

Peter, as an Apostle, could have put this in the form of a command. And though it carries the force of something we should be doing, the form here is an appeal to their hearts, but it's a very strong appeal.

" Peter knew what was best for these people, as he knew what's best for us. And though he is pleading for our obedience to Christ. he wants it to be an obedience which is not under compulsion but out of gratitude for being shosen of God to be with Him forever.

He's talking to you and me. And though we may seem like creatures from other planets at times, Peter is suggesting that our status in this world is such that we don't belong here forever, this is not our home.

I know it's very easy for people to get comfortable in this world that they seem to have put down permanent roots. Peter is saying that we need to be living as aliens and strangers.

These two terms imply that we may be living in a land we call home, but in fact it's only a temporary residence until we reach our true homeland which is heavenly in nature.

Q4. (2:11) Read 1 Peter 2:11 carefully. The world tells us (1) to conform and (2) that sin won't hurt us. What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? How can this reminder help us?

Peter tells us to, "abstain from the evil desires of this world which war agains our soul." My soul is the only thing the evil one wants. So those in the world who belongs to him will tell me anything that will cause me to give my soul up to him. They tempt our lustful nature with things that look good to us that are not good for us. Sometimes I have fallen for the tricks. But I have a Great God who has rescued me from every trap! Glory to God forever! My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ mediates for me everyday of my life and I am grateful to Him for loving me such much. I am reminded everyday to pray for sight and wisdom to be aware of the arrows that come at me everyday.

Peter tells us we are not of this world we are of God. We need to stay away from the worldly things because they are in conflict with our souls. They will take us away from God. The things of this world are evil and against God's laws.

To combat these lies, Peter tells us to stay away from sinful desires, which war against your soul. This reminder helps us to see the trickery of the enemy for what it is. Surrendering to sinful desires could cause one to lose his salvation. Satan's war is for the soul of man and he will entice you in that which appeases you.

Peter tells me that I am a chosen, holy priest called to serve God by my words and actions. My true home and destination is Heaven and I am held accountable by Heaven's rules not Earth's.

Satan's greatest and most easily believed lie is that

1 he is not real

2 Sin is ok, God is a God of love and will not punish us. We are good people really.

I need to learn God's standards, set them in practise and refute the lies of the devil. By living my life this way, I will fulfil my earthly calling to be living a God-Honouring Life.

Its' awesome and sad really, but after 20 years I can finally say I know what I am doing here on Earth, what I was created for and what my destiny is. I also know where I am going when I die.

Peter is telling us not to conform to the sinful desires of this world because it will hurt our soul. We are just temporary residents on earth. We will not be here for long. Our soul is destined for heaven. Our soul has been redeemed by Jesus. we have been set free from sin through the blood of Jesus. We should stay focused to Jesus being the only way to the Father. We should live a life pleasing to God.

We are to say no to our fleshly ****. We are to consider the respect that we have with God, that we are strangers passing through this world, we are not to give into the wickedness of this world as we pass through. This should be a reminder of the dangers of sin that is possible to our souls. Sin will destroy our soul. It weakens our soul, it robs of peace and comfort, it destroys our dignity. We have to die daily to the flesh. We cann do it with the help of the Holy Spirit.

The rewards of sin are death. What is this death ? It is the separation from God the more we sin, conform to the ways of this world the further away God seem to be.In real terms it is not He who is parting from us but us who are pulling away from Him.We must resist all the temptations of this world that don't conform to the word of our Lord and strive to glorify Gods name in all that we do.

For years as a Christian I smoked(cigarettes)and deep down I knew this is not what the Lord wants from me.I tried all the remedies I could find to assist in quitting a habit which is in my opinion a socially accepted drug.I believe that getting unhooked from cigarettes is probably as hard as getting of some mainline drugs.I was continually being convicted of the fact that I should stop but all avenues failed that is until as a last resort and take note here a 'last resort' I gave the problem to the lord and guess what it's been a year and a half smoke free.Praise you Lord.

I think sometimes we try to conform to remedies that the world has to offer and forget that we have the answer right inside of us The Father the Son and the Holy Spirit how much more can we ask for.Our God reigns.Amen.

Peter tell us to abstain from the sinful nature in this world and the lies that they tell us to do or not to do. We are to listen to God and Him only and have nothing to do with the sinful nature of this world.

If we will remember these things and practice it then we will have a greater chance of not falling for just anything that this world offers and tries to drag us into, that will do nothing but destroy us and lead us down a path of destruction which would cause to be miserable all of our lives and forever. But if we will yield to these words of Peter then we can escape this life of misery.

How can this reminder help us?

Just as Christian values and beliefs are rejected by the world, so we are to live apart from the immorality and sinful desires that surround us today in this fallen world. Peter is warning us about these sinful desires. Desires in itself are not wrong, but Peter warns us that evil desires can give rise to sin, and this ultimately gives rise to death (James 1:15). He writes that these sinful desires will wage war against our soul with the sole purpose of destroying it. Later on in 1Pet 4:3 he goes on to mention these sinful desires as

Conforming is a dangerous habit. It leads to the 2nd point SIN. What does SIN do, it kills us. It stays in our body and hurts us if we continue to do it. We can not succeed by TRYING to STOP SINNING. We must turn it over to God, and let Him fill us with replacement activities, whcih we do for the joy of pleasing Him. It is easy to say, and almost impossible to do for a very long time.

Sin is dangerous; the wages of sin is death. Sin separates man from God.We are only here temporarily and we need to fix our eyes on Jesus and not on the ungodliness of this world. The world is our enemy; we pray for those in the world to see the Light, but we are not to conform to their standards. We are aliens in this world, here to uphold God's standards by becoming Christlike in our nature and conforming to the image of God's Son, not conforming the the patterns of the world.

He tells we pretty much we are only here temporarily and there is a war going on for our soul and that we should abstain from it or in other terms go to war for your soul by not giving into temptations of this world since we are only "strangers." This little reminder helps me all the time because whenever I am tempted by the world all I have to think about is that why should I? I AM NOT OF THIS WORLD :)
