Q4. (9:15-19) What was Daniel's essential prayer? What are the various grounds of Daniel's appeal? How did God answer the prayer (see Daniel 9:20-23)?

Daniel's essential prayer was of confession and intercession. Daniel brought before the Lord the actual facts concerning Himself and His people. The people who bore His name, the Land that bears His name were in shame and captivity. Daniel reminds the Lord to redeem Israel for the sake of His name, His glory, His righteousness and of course the precedence that His name has set before. On these four grounds Daniel intercedes with the Lord for Israel's redemption from captivity. God answers Daniel's prayer by sending His angel and describing to him the things that will soon happen. Yes, God answers our prayers, provided we interecede with full zeal and complete involvement in the process. God likes that kind of commitment and He will surely answer that kind of intercessory prayers.

Once again I thank and praise God for the revelation that He has granted me through this wonderful Bible Study. Right now I am going through a tough time in our family. Death of my mother in law followed by the drunken brawls of a brother in law. We were praying for him, but now I have learnt this lesson that I have to take on his sins on myself to intercede for him so that God would answer our prayers. Praise God!! Hallelujah!!!

What was DAniel's essential prayer?

1. I believe his prayer for his nation was solely based on God's righteousness and mercy, not upon any righteousness of Israel.

What are the various grounds of Daniel's appeal

2. Grounds of appeal

......For your sake

......for the sake of a city known by His Name

......For the character of His mercy.

All these grounds of appeal were totally based on who God is. There was

no appeal based on any righteous act of the Israelites. The entire appeal

was placed into the hands of the living God to obtain His mercy.

This was acceptable to God.

Daniel is asking God for mercy and to restore His people to their home which is His namesake, to a degree appealing to God's vanity. Daniel humbles himself by calling out the unworthyness of a sinful nation, acknowledging their transgressions and as intercessor, taking them upon himself.

In verse 23 Gabriel tells Daniel that he has been heard and that he is greatly beloved. Daniel's prayer was received and would be acted upon, though not in his lifetime.

What was Daniel's essential prayer? This is what I would call renewal/revival for God's sake. It is more than seeing the human need....it is for God's sake and God's glory that Daniel appeals to. God will be glorified by Him answering this appeal.

What are the various grounds of Daniel's appeal? Daniel appeals to God's precident of delivering Israel from Egypt; God's glory; God's righteousness; God's personal identification with Jerusalem; God's mercy; God centered worship

How did God answer the prayer? God did hear and answer Daniel's prayer. The book of Ezra and Nehemiah reveal how God answered this by using pagan Kings to do God's will and send the people back to Jerusalem.

Daniel's essential prayer was about God; it was a cry for His glory and righteousness and mercy to be shown in action by forgiving the Israelites. It was a prayer centered on God Himself that He might forgive for HIS sake. When God is glorified, it benefits more than just a few. The grounds for his appeal was the attitributes of God and His name's sake. God's reputation was at stake here; would He really show that He kept His word, that He forgives, that He is full of mercy and power? With God's answer to Daniel's prayer, we discovered the answer is YES!

We need to remember that prayers that are centered on the true God of the universe and His glory are the kinds of prayers that are answered.

Q4. (9:15-19) What was Daniel's essential prayer?

Daniel's prayer is urgent and impassioned. Daniel interceded for his people that God would have mercy on a nation who had disobeyed his commands and had worshipped other gods.

What are the various grounds of Daniel's appeal?

Daniel's appeal was based on the following:

God's Precedent -
God had delivered Israel from Egypt which provides a precedent for Him delivering them from Babylon.

God's Glory -
As God received the glory when He delivered them from Egypt, so will the deliverance from Babylon bring him glory.

God's Righteousness -
Deliverance of God's people shows God's righteousness as an act of mercy.

God's Personal Identification with Jerusalem -
God has identified himself with Jerusalem, the city that "bears your Name." While Israel's sins have brought scorn to Jerusalem and Israel -- and to God, by association -- deliverance will erase that scorn.

Worship in God's Temple -
With the deliverance of Israel, once again the temple will be filled with worshippers.

God's Mercy -
On the basis of God's known character of mercy.

How did God answer the prayer (see Daniel 9:20-23)?

God answered Daniel's prayer -- both by the personal messenger of the Angel Gabriel and historical events that unfolded.

Q4. (9:15-19) What was Daniel's essential prayer? What are the various grounds of Daniel's appeal? How did God answer the prayer (see Daniel 9:20-23)?

Daniel's essential prayer was acknowledging the sins of the nation and asking God for forgiveness. It is essential - most necessary to acknowledge sin and ask for forgiveness before expecting God to answer other requests.

Daniel used experiences of the Israelites in Egypt in praying for his people. Delivering the Israelites from Egypt set a prescedent. God's glory will be revealed in the Israelites now as it was when they were delivered from the Egyptians. Deliverance of His people will show God's righteousness as an act of mercy and also personal identification with Jerusalem.

God answered Daniel's prayer with the decree of Cyrus that allowed the Israelites to return to Jerusalem.

Q4. (9:15-19) What was Daniel's essential prayer? What are the various grounds of Daniel's appeal? How did God answer the prayer (see Daniel 9:20-23)?

Daniel confessed and asked forgiveness for the sins of his people. We must confess our sins if we want God to help us. It is imperative that we do this. After Daniel prayed, god changed Cyrus' heart, allowing the Israelites to return to their home.

God is good-His mercy endures forever! Confess and believe-ask and receive- all God's grace and mercy!

Q4. (9:15-19) What was Daniel's essential prayer?

It was a plea for mercy and the loving kindness God had shown them previously, supplication for the Lord to hear him and listen to His plea for the nation, along with his confession of the corporate sin which had caused them to be in this desolate condition.

What are the various grounds of Daniel's appeal?

He appealed to God's renoun and good reputation for having delivered His people from Egypt, to His rightness and justice regarding the sin of the nation which had made them a reproach and byword to those around them, and for the Lord's sake regarding the desolation of the temple....YOUR people, YOUR temple.

How did God answer the prayer (see Daniel 9:20-23)?

The Lord dispatched the angel Gabriel to come to Daniel and touch him, instruct him and to give him skill, wisdom and understanding. He told him he was greatly beloved and told him to consider the matter and to understand the vision Daniel had seen (Chapter 7) regarding the future dealings with the world, even to the end times.

Q4. (9:15-19) What was Daniel's essential prayer? What are the various grounds of Daniel's appeal? How did God answer the prayer (see Daniel 9:20-23)?

Daniel's essential prayer was requesting God's mercy and for God's lovingkindness after confessing the sins of the nation and acknowledging responsibility for the them as an intercessor... I believe God is moved in mercy when we acknowledge our sin and are sorry in asking forgiveness.

Daniel based his grounds on God's past way of delivering His people up and out of Egypt...and God's nature of righteousness and justice.

By sending Gabriel to "discuss" the matter with Daniel...telling him he was greatly loved and giving him understanding of the vision given to Daniel by God.

Q4. (9:15-19) What was Daniel's essential prayer? What are the various grounds of Daniel's appeal? How did God answer the prayer (see Daniel 9:20-23)?

Daniel's essential prayer was for the return of the Israelites to Jerusalem, and the forgiveness of their sins. In order for his prayer to be heard and answered, Daniel had to assume the sins of the nation as if they were his own sins. He bases his argument on God's promises and history with Israel, how in the past He brought them out of Egypt, for example - this was referred to as 'precedent' in the lesson text. Saving the Israelites from slavery in Egypt brought glory to God, and freeing them from Babylonian rule would glorify Him once more. These acts were done by God in His righteous mercy, not because of any action on the part of the Israelites, they did not in any way 'earn' these benefits from God. God is also identified with Israel - their sins against their God brought scorn on themselves, and upon God as well. Deliverance by God would erase that scorn.

God's answer to this prayer was the decree by the Persian leader that allowed the Jews to return to their homeland. Not all did return, this resulted in a purification of the Jews in Israel - the wheat returned to Jerusalem, while the chaff remained in Babylon.
