Q3. Christ, our Intecessor

Recommended Posts

Q3. (Hebrews 7:24-25) Why is Jesus able to save people "completely" -- "to the uttermost" according to verse 25? What is the essential function of a priest? Why is intercession the essence of being a priest?

Unlike human high priests who die (23) Jesus as our great high priest lives forever (24) because He lives forever His intercession is ongoing, it is this continual intercession that gives us confidence of continual salvation!

The essential function of a priest is touched on in Hebrews 5:1

Heb 5:1 Every high priest is selected from among men and is appointed to represent them in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.

I suppose another way of saying this is our great high priest performs

The reason that Jesus is able to save people "completely" because he was ordained to do so St. John 3: 16 states that "For God so loved the world that he gave his only beggotten son and whosoever beliefeth in him shall not perish but will have everlasting life." God sent Jesus into the world to save all-mankind. However there are those who have refused his salvation. Acts 4:12 states, "Neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. So Jesus is the "completely to the utmost" whereby we can be saved from sin and from hell."

The essential function of a priest is very important because a priest can atone for our sins by going to the Father and making intercessions for us daily, Jesus is our mediator which allows or enable us today to go before the Father boldly with our petitions and prayers. Jesus is that sacrificial lamb for the atonement of our sins.

Priest before Jesus walk on earth, could only atone an individual sins by sacrificing a animal such as a lamb or a goat... etc to appease or become spotless and faultless of their sins before God. Our priest today is Jesus and one of Jesus' main purpose or essence is to bring us before our Father blameless, faultless, and spotless and the only way an individual who can become before the Father with these attributes, being wash thoroughly in the blood of the lamb who is Jesus Christ our savior.

Q3. (Hebrews 7:24-25) Why is Jesus able to save people "completely" -- "to the uttermost" according to verse 25? What is the essential function of a priest? Why is intercession the essence of being a priest?

1) Jesus is able to save us completely because He is completely sin free and ALL authority, including authority over the "uttermost" has been given to Him for the sake of His church, which is His body.

2) The essential function of a priest is to mediate peace between a man and God.

Q3. (Hebrews 7:24-25) Why is Jesus able to save people "completely" -- "to the uttermost" according to verse 25?

"Therefore He is able also to save to the uttermost completely, perfectly, finally, and for all time and eternity those who come to God through Him, since He is always living to make petition to God and intercede with Him and intervene for them."Heb. 24,25

I'm so glad these verses follow Hebrews 6:6, where I believe, the hypothetical question of losing your salvation arose. Sure sounded like it was possible, for a few verses. Now this lays it completely to rest for me. He saves us perfectly, finally and for all time and eternity, since He is always living to make intercession to God with Him and to intervene for us, because He is the eternal High priest. If I were in danger of losing my salvation, He would intercede, intervene to save me from myself, just as He prayed for Peter, that his faith would not fail during extreme testing and trial.

What is the essential function of a priest?

The priest's main function was to be the intermediary between God and man...to intercede, to offer the sacrifices to "cover" the sins, to enter into the Holy of Holies once a year to atone for the sins of the people. The go between, if you will, between God and man. Jesus is the bridge between my sinful flesh, and my Holy God.

Why is intercession the essence of being a priest?

He is the advocate for the people, chosen and appointed by God the Father. Jesus is now our advocate who is always living to make petition to "God and intercede with Him and intervene for them." V.25 That settles the "lost salvation" question for me, once and for all..His role is to keep me until that day.

Q3. (Hebrews 7:24-25) Why is Jesus able to save people "completely" -- "to the uttermost" according to verse 25? What is the essential function of a priest? Why is intercession the essence of being a priest?

The intercession of Jesus is ongoing and thus we can be sure of continual salvation.

Heb 5:1 Every high priest is selected from among men and is appointed to represent them in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.

Intercession is the essence of being a priest because by defintion a Priest represents man man in matters related to God. Thus Jesus is our High Priest as he represents man and intercedes between man and God. This is ongoing and thus if we accept this, our salvation is assured. What a gift!

Q3. (Hebrews 7:24-25) Why is Jesus able to save people "completely" -- "to the uttermost" according to verse 25? What is the essential function of a priest? Why is intercession the essence of being a priest?

Jesus is able to save completely because He is the complete sacrifice and satisfying Intercessor to the Father. Because His priesthood is alive for all generations (unlike the old, superficial ancestory way of names or heritage or kingship)...there is no other complete way to the Father, except through His Son, Jesus.

The essential function of a priest is to guide us closer to the Father; for we know not what we do, therefore, we seek the advice, guidance and closeness of the Father, through the priest.

Being a priest means that you honor the Word of the Lord and you live according to the commands of the Lord. As a priest, your life in Christ should reflect scripture and all that God has ordained you to be--from His Word. This brings you closer and closer to Holiness with the Most High God and allows you to become a vessel, a messenger, and an intercessory prayer warrior--in order to help save the lost, out of Love--which is the way of a priest. A priest is the image of God.

Jesus is able to save completely because he is indestructable. He cannot die and has power to intercede on our behalf.

A priest's function is to serve as a go-between for us to God. He pleads the sinner's case to God.

Intercession is the only means to have access to God.

Q3. (Hebrews 7:24-25)

Why is Jesus able to save people "completely" -- "to the uttermost" according to verse 25?

What is the essential function of a priest?

Why is intercession the essence of being a priest?

Because Jesus lives forever He is also able to save all believers completely. It is because of His perpetual intercession for us that there is no interruption to its effectiveness; it is unchangeable and eternal. So there is no danger that any of us as believers will be lost. He is able to save us for all time because His present ministry for us at God's right hand will never be interrupted by death.

The priests represented the people before God, and offered the various sacrifices prescribed in the law. They interceded on behalf of the people. Because of sin the people could not go directly to God, they needed someone to intercede on their behalf.

Jesus is able to save "completly" because He is God, He was man also but sinless thus dying for us He is the altimate sacrifice ,He does not need to go to the Throne and pleed His case as the other priests did. Priests were to take our confessions to God, but we now have Jesus and He is our mediator.

Jesus has a permanent and unchanging Priesthood of which He is interceding for us continually / forever. . .

The priest as the representative of humanity is the mediator between humanity and God whose function is to reconcile man back into a peaceful relationship with God. . .

Q3. (Hebrews 7:24-25) Why is Jesus able to save people "completely" -- "to the uttermost" according to verse 25? What is the essential function of a priest? Why is intercession the essence of being a priest?

Answer; It says Jesus is able to save people completely to the uttermost,BECAUSE JESUS PRIESTHOOD NEVER CHANGE,AND IS VALID FOREVER.

And because of this Jesus is making intercession, mediating for them to the Father, until they are completely redeemed in their Body and Soul(Born Again Christian is only redeemed in his Spirit man, after he accept Jesus as his personal Saviour).

Intercession/mediating is the Work of the Priest. He brings Man to God,and represent God to Man.This is in essence because Man is Sinful(Old Nature),and God is Holy.Sin and God cannot mixed together,so the necessity of Mediator,in the form of a Priest.

Q3. (Hebrews 7:24-25) Why is Jesus able to save people "completely" -- "to the uttermost" according to verse 25? What is the essential function of a priest? Why is intercession the essence of being a priest?

Since Jesus lives forever, the salvation he brings also lasts forever. To draw near to an eternal God, we need an eternal priest. Jesus will intercede to God for us as our High Priest of the new covenant, and his intercession is never ending. The function of a priest is to intercede for man to God. Through Chris's intercession, the one who draws near (continually draws near) to God may receive grace to be saved "to the uttermost". Christ intercession as our high priest is essential to our salvation. Without that and without His grace, mercy, and help mediated to us through that intercession, we would fall away from God, once again be enslaved to sin and the dominion of Satan, and incur just condensnation. Our only hope is to draw near to God through Christ in faith.

God the Father sent Jesus to die-shed His blood-for us. Now, because Jesus was obedient, He is forever our intercessor, and our High Priest. He is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the only way to the Father. He sits at God's right hand, making sure that we have what we need, and that we are good to go, as far as having our sins covered! Jesus covered everything for us! Praise God! I love Him so much!

1) Jesus is able to save people "completely"--"to uttermost" according to verse 25 because He lives forever. He is always there to remind God that He has paid the price for our sins with His blood.

2) Essential function of a priest is to intercede on our behalf.

3) Intercession is the essence of being a priest because that is the role of a priest, to be mediator between us and the Father

Jesus is able to save people completely because He lives forever, His priesthood is permanent and unchangeable, and He intercedes for us at the Father’s right hand. The priest represents God before the people and the people to God. He is someone to intercede on our behalf because we are sinners from birth. Someone has to be an advocate on our behalf to the Father when Satan accuses us. This makes intercession between the Father and us is the essence on being a priest.

The reason is able to save people is because Jesus lives to intercede for us. The function of the priest was to intercede for the people. He was to go into the Holy of Holy’s and ask for forgiveness for himself and for the people.

The reason that the essence of being a priest is to intercede for us is because we are too wicked to enter into the presence of God.

Q3. (Hebrews 7:24-25) Why is Jesus able to save people "completely" -- "to the uttermost" according to verse 25? What is the essential function of a priest? Why is intercession the essence of being a priest?

According to Hebrews 7:24-25 Jesus is able to save people "completely to the uttermost" because he is our permanent High Priest - King, before God forever. He intercedes for  us continually before God, he is our helper when in trouble.

The purpose of being a priest was to intercede between man and God for the people. He offered a sacrifice before God for his own sins and then offered a sacrifice for the people. Jesus has offered his own blood for sacrifice and ours.

Jesus can save completely because he never dies.  He is the one who was promised to redeem man from sin.  He is our intercessor to God the father because that is what God ordained.  Jesus is holy, sinless, pure, perfect, not influenced by sinners, and he is raised above the heavens.  he is not like other priest who had to offer sacrifices every day for their sin and others.  Christ was sacrificed once and for all time.  the law chooses high priest who are people with weaknesses, but the word of God's oath came much later then the law. It made God's son the high priest and that son has been made perfect forever.

Q3. (Hebrews 7:24-25) Why is Jesus able to save people "completely" -- "to the uttermost" according to verse 25? What is the essential function of a priest? Why is intercession the essence of being a priest?

Jesus is able to save to the uttermost because He is a High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek which is a high priest who had no end nor a beginning like the Levitical line of priests did.The line of priests and high priests out of Levi's tribe was human and sinful meaning they could not save us from our sins in any way they could only cover our sins through the yearly sacrifices nothing more. However Jesus being a priest of the order of Melchizedek means that He is a priest forever and his priesthood does not end. That also means His power overrules the former priests. Because He does not die He continually make intercession for us to God as well. The intercession is important because it ensures our salvation.

He lives to make intercession for us. He has indestructible life in Him. So we are secure in His life, forever.

To be an intermediary between men an God. To get men a better position for men, because we are sinful.

That is what we need to make sure we have compassionate representation before a holy God. Because we are NOT holy.

What a superior Convenant, with the Son of God as intercessor and guarantor! IT can get any better than that, and yet we need this desperately, in this fallen world!
