If we become more like Jesus and stand for all He has told us to - if we are 'on fire' for our Lord then we will certainly be persecuted - just as Jesus was. By hiding our light we are hiding God's glory in our world today - we are only cheating God. Jesus' suffering was necessary in our lives so that we might be saved and know Him intimately. In vs 10-12 we are told of the blessing that we receive for the persecutions and insults we endure for right living; vs 13-16 lets us know the deeds that we must perform to make the world aware of this right living, which wil cause some to persecute and insult us. We can't just live right, we must make sure that others know that we live right and understand why we live right and how we are able to live right in the same world that they live in.... it is by the power and grace of God through Jesus Christ. B.) When we hide our good works we rob God of His praise and glory, because others aren't made aware of what God has done for us and therefore they don't know that credit is due Him. C.) No cross - No crown, just as Jesus suffered we too have to caring our cross if we are to reign with Him. For such it was with the profits of old. D.) Jesus' purpose for coming to earth was to be the once-and-for-all sin offering for the human race (whosoever will come to Him). The Bible says: " Without the shedding of blood there can be no remission of sin," To that end, Yes, Jesus' suffering was necessary. E.) Romans 12:2 lets us know that we are to be different from the rest of the world. We are the transformed of the world, and our role is to shine light on darkness so that others may see our light and conform to a life that is pleasing to God. We are the SALT of the earth, based on our FAITH in God Almighty, and Jesus. SALT is good judgment, exhibited in how we live our lives. The good judgment, SALT, is the light of God's Word shining bright, so that mankind has no problem of seeing it. If we hide the Light of the Word, I would suggest one go get a good dose of the Salt shaker, for one has lost its savor, it no longer has a sweet aroma to God, no longer does it bring glory. Why must glory and suffering go hand in hand? I am not sure that glory and suffering MUST go hand in hand? But, suffering spiritually goes hand in hand with God's glory because - suffering has been a part of man's experience since the fall, the consequences of sin. To be saved, I think it is important we feel the suffering, the agony, the great sorrow of a soul lost, and see the mercy and love of God for us, there they do go hand in hand. Physical suffering may go hand in hand as we glorify the Lord, it is when we are in the valley that we can grow, suffering is a means to shape us, mold us into a person who will glorify the Lord. As (2 Cor. 1:3-6) tells us, Those who suffer are in a position to comfort others. God's ways are not our ways. Was Jesus' suffering necessary? Jesus came as the suffering Servant. He knew He would have to suffer as man, to take back dominion that mankind lost, to take the keys to hell and death, to ransom mankind. He came to do the will of the Father. SUFFERING is because of SIN, it is because of our SIN that Jesus came and suffered. Talk about not hiding light, Jesus came to be a light to the Gentiles (Is. 49:6) to the world. Jesus would not hide His face from shame and spitting (suffering) He would be the sin bearing Servant, giving His life for the redemption of His people. Isn't our Bridegroom AWESOME? Hiding our light doesn't allow the glory of God to be seen in our lives, thus leading the lost to a saving relationship with God through His Son. Suffering for Jesus Christ is a powerful testimony to both the secular and Christian world which glorifies God by the faithfulness of the sufferer. Jesus' suffering was necessary in order to fulfill the prophecy concerning Him in Isaiah 53. The suffering was one identification of who He was. Our suffering can be the result living out our Christianity. It cannot be helped. It is a possible outcome of living out the gospel in word and deed. However, Jesus said not to fear God is with us. Paul wrote that Christians should not be conformed to the world, but a living sacrifice, transformed by the renewing of our minds by the power of God's Holy Spirit. Not conforming to the world can bring about persecution. We must keep our eyes on Jesus Christ. We are living in the last days and the satanic power behind an ever-increasing one world government is going to require extreme conformity. We must be overcomers! Don W Posted January 27, 2008 Report Share Posted January 27, 2008 Just as was said before, when we live for God’s Word and give Him all the glory and don’t try to hide His light reflecting off of us to others, then we may be shunned, ignored, and even hated and persecuted by those in the world who don’t want to hear or come into the light of the Lord Jesus Christ or to come out of their darkness of their sin. If we hide our light, this will affect others and may keep them from seeing God’s glory and believing in Him, but nothing anywhere or anybody will ever affect any of the all-inclusive attributes of God including His glory and majesty! God is and always will be glorious in eternity and nothing we do or say or nothing that happens will ever change this fact! But our hiding our lamps (or light) from reflecting His glory to others won’t change Him in the least, but it may change how others see and come to know Him as their Lord and Savior, too. But if we do let our lights shine out before people we come across in our daily walk with the Lord, then the Lord Jesus’ promise for us and others is in verse 16: “that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Amen! Jesus’ suffering here on the earth and His death were for several reasons, but were necessarily vital for our salvation in Him; and one of the main reasons for His suffering is so we Christian believers can see His good works and glorify our Father in heaven because of them. It is the same thing for us as Jesus’ followers (verse 16). This is related to Romans 12:2 in that when we’re transformed by the renewing of our minds in Christ Jesus, then we are able to prove with the Lord’s light shinning in our lives to others “what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”; and then they, in turn, will see His light in us and will glorify our heavenly Father because of it. The person who is the salt of the earth and a light of the world will be persecuted because of it. To hide our light is to hide God's glory. If we live to give glory to God we have to turn away from the ways of this world. Just as Jesus had to suffer, so must God's saints. We're in this world but not of this world. "If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." John says in verse 7: "but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin." John turns to us and how we relate to God. John will not permit us to rationalize about our sin. To be in God's light means to be exposed to the truth about himself and ourselves He suffered and he died. Certainly everything was caused by the men who condemned, scourged and crucified him. But he always saw another, deeper meaning in his suffering and death. He suffered and died in order to reunite us to God, since we had separated ourselves from him by sinning, and to reunite us to one another. Hiding our light affects the glory of God because if we don't share our faith how will others come to salvation. Glory and suffering must go hand in hand because we give glory to God when we are willing to suffer for our Christian beliefs. Jesus' suffering was necessary because it was the only way we could be reconciled to God for our sins. Our suffering is necessary in order for us to mature in our faith. When we let our light shine and live our lives as "salty" Christians, we can expect the persecution Jesus talks about in verses 10-12. Persecution can be evidence that we are shining the light of Jesus into the world around us. If we hide our light for fear of persecution, we are taking away from God's glory; we are cheapening the sacrifice and suffering of Jesus by hiding away what he died for. Jesus' suffering was necessary to satisfy the penalty that had to be paid to bring us into relationship with a completely just God. His suffering also proved his great love for us. I don't think our suffering at the hands of the world is necessary for salvation (it does strengthen faith and grow us), but I know we must at least suffer over our own sin before we can see our need for a Savior. Romans 12:2 tells us that we shouldn't conform to the ways of this world, even if that may bring about persecution and suffering. At the same time, we are given the promise that we will be renewed and rewarded by God even in the midst of persecution and suffering. For those who uphold God's standard of truth, justice, and purity, and who at the same time refuse to compromise with the present evil society or the lifestyle of luke warm believers, will undergo unpopularity, rejection, and criticism. Persecution and opposition will come from the world. When we experience this suffering Christians are to rejoice, for to those who suffer for Christ, imparts the highest blessing. That is where we are to be the salt, to be godly examples in the world and to resist moral decay and corruption in this world. In hiding our light, the world will not be able to see the glory of the Lord, His mercy and grace, and will not know that they can receiv Him and their Lord and Savior. Glory and suffering go hand in hand because when you are suffering in a trial, the glory of the Lord can be seen if you are trusting Him in that valley and totally believing He will bring you out, then you can rejoice and praise God for you know He is a true and faithful God. When you are suffering, God is making you stronger in your faith and building you to use for His Kingdom. Yes, Jesus' suffering was neccessary because our sins would not have been forgiven. Yes, ours is necessary to become stronger and more faithful in serving the Lord. We must have our minds conformed to God's way of thinking by reading and meditating on His Word. Verses 13-16 relates to us doing the practical things e.g. letting our lights shine before men i.e. we witness, lead by example and we must not be surprised if we are persecuted because God's prohphets were persecuted for their faith and Jesus was no exception either. We should glory in our persecution, knowing that He is with us through it all. If we hide our light, the glory of God is not manifest in our lives. If we don't show His glory to others, they will be lost forever. God shines His glory in us so that we can be effective disciples; if we lose the light, we tarnish the image we are supposed to set as His true followers. Glory and suffering go hand in hand because the road to heaven is narrow and frought with difficulties such as persecutions. Therefore it is nothing new to us if we are Chrisitans. When we suffer for Him, we give Him the glory. Jesus' needed to suffer as we would not be given the promise of eternal life. Our suffering is necessary because we mature as His children and we perservere through to the end of the race as Paul did. If we shy away from persecution and suffering, we will not b e bold, salty Christians whose lights are always shining. The relationship b/w verse 13-16 with verse 10-12 is that Jesus' teaching on salt and light follows hard on the heels of the Beatitudes, which closes extolling the blessedness of those who are persecuted for Jesus' sake. Together, the Beatitudes and the Parables of Salt and Light form a kind of profile of the Spirit-filled disciple. Both salt and light are worthless if they are salt less or hidden from view. The reason for a Christian's witness: "that [men] may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Therefore we must not hide our light. Glory and persecution go hand in hand because persecution means that people see enough of Jesus in us to be worth resisting and persecuting, so we should count it as a badge of honor, and the portent of a great reward in heaven. Christ's suffering was necessary in order to fulfill God's will, and Jesus was resurrected in a Glorious way. Our suffering too is necessary to let our light shine so clearly that people can see God clearly in our works and in our deeds, and evoke praise to him. Romans 12:12 "Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer." This verse tells us not to despair in persecution, but instead to rejoice and not lose hope. Terms that those hearing could understand. A parable if you would. When you hide your light the word of God is hidden and not shared as the Great Commission would have us to do. It must go hand and hand beause of our sinful nature. that nature must die..suffering in the flesh and mind..so our Spirit may lead. That is the glory of the Lord. he had to suffer so the children of God could make it to Heaven. Without his great sacrifice we would be lost to sin and hell, no doubt. And our suffering is inevitable. We suffer for this world is not our home. We are merely here to gather and add to the Lord's harvest. The scripture Romans 12:2 applies to the rule we are not of this world and should not comform. We should be the outcast's and not hold the ideals of this world as our own. Hiding our light prevents others from seeing our good deeds, therefore preventing the praise that is due our Father in heaven. Glory and suffering go hand-in-hand in that "Everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted" (2 Timothy 3:12). It comes with the territory. Yes and yes. Romans 12:2 - "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. iam4-1god Posted April 6, 2008 Report Share Posted April 6, 2008 For all these questions, I just want to say this: in my own life, I have experienced a "saltless" life, and I have seen it in others, too. For me, it was dark, and depressing, and I never EVER want to go back! I was filled with emptiness, and meaninglessness. For those of us who have walked the walk-to go back is absolutely pointless! Once God gets hold, well, thank Him, He won't let go. We can run, but we can't hide! I know that I had to deal with The Holy Spirit when my salt had weakened. My conscience was seared with a hot iron! If we are truly children of the Most High God, make no mistake-we'll know when our salt is weak! There is one other thing. Unbelievers, and those who believe, but choose not to worship are always watching us. They love it when we "screw up"! It gives them the perfect opportunity to point fingers and declare us hypocrites. They feel justified in their stance on religion when we make mistakes. Afterall, isn't that what they are looking for? Justification? If I left something out, or forgot a question, I'll come back. I ramble about one thing and forget the other thing. They will say bad things about us. When this happens, then we know that they can see Christ through us and it makes them feel guilty so they lash out. We should rejoice when this happens! God is at work through us! Gloray! 4b. People can't see God's glory through us, and so they will not be moved to seek Him. When our light doesn's shine, His can't shine. 4c. Because Jesus suffered we will suffer, too. People will be hated for their testimony. In some places today, people are being tortured and killed because of their beliefs. Please pray for them. In conclusion, suffering is necessary. Because of unbelievers, haters, and all the sins included with these, the bullies of the world are determined that, because they are going to hell, the rest of us are, too. They are children of Satan, and they are doing his work, just like we are doing God's work. We can not serve two masters. Choose, and then stand firm, 'cause it'll be a wild ride! I choose Jesus, and I know in my heart that, no matter what happens, the end is all good! My body will die, but my spirit and soul belong to The Lord! Gloray! Verses 13-16 are commands from Jesus that each of us must bring his witness to the world through our words and our deeds, and consequently, in relation with verses 10-12, as his witness we must be willing to bear our witness even though it may bring persecution. Hiding our light affects the glory of God: we are the light of the glory of God in this world, we are the agents of evoking to our Father in heaven through our words of witness and our good works and deeds, , so by not saying our words of witness or anything about our faith to people around us, they do not bring glory to him, they do not evoke praise to God because they do not know who is He, what he has done in us. Glory and suffering go hand in hand because they are closely connected and one thing causes the other, our glory causes suffering, and our suffering result in our glory. Jesus' suffering is necessary, because it makes him glorified by his Father, sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2). Our suffering is necessary too. When we let our ligh shine it brings glory to God as lives are changed through the gospel message. Jesus himself suffered because he brought the Word from His Father to a people lost.
