Does it mean that none of God's original goodness shows through? Then what does it mean? Why does modern man tend to believe that man is basically good? How does this differ from what the Bible teaches? Total depravity is a negative condition of the spiritual heart followed by its actions. Whenever someone chooses to let any form of negative thoughts into their heart and not immediately cast them out, he or she is a candidate for this takeover. Therefore, it is important whenever we are tempted to harbor ill feelings toward someone or something, or to act upon negative thoughts, we must pray for forgiveness and ask God to help us get rid of them and replace them with thoughts He would have us to have. This means that after a while, it is possible for God's original goodness to depart from that person. Today, most people think that man is basically good because to think otherwise is a scary thought. Society tends to think that all good people are going to enter into heaven, no matter what religious beliefs they hold. This is another seduction of the devil. "Total depravity" theologians say that when goodness shows there is some ulterior motive behind it. Modern man tend to believe that man is basically good because he wants to believe that he is good. This differs from the teaching of the Bible is that man in his fallen state, without Christ, is not basically good. He is deceitful and conniving. In Romans 7:15-25, Paul describes our wretchedness as not being able to do what we want to do and always doing what we do not want to do, as our flesh is "sold as a slave to sin." Our mind and our flesh serve two different masters. If we identify ourselves with our flesh, then we are utterly depraved, serving sin, but if we align ourselves with our mind, we serve God. Of our own will this is not possible, but Jesus Christ our Lord "delivered me from this body of death", that I may have life. It through the "amazing grace" of God that we are saved. Modern man's belief that man is basically good does not accord with the Bible's teaching, which says that by ourselves we are utterly incapable of doing that which is good, but only with the salvation of Jesus Christ that we are redeemed and made perfect. God's goodness is always there, mans sinful nature just clouds the view, sometimes blackening it out all together. Man tends to think that they are above God, that his (mans) way is better than the standards God put in place. Just look at same sex marriages, adultery, abortion, homosexuality, divorce, corruption and so many others. None of these are in God's will, yet they are all acceptable to man and society. The Bible teaches us that man is rotten to the core and that the only way for man is through Jesus Christ and to abide by God's Laws and rules, it is actually very straight forward and simple. ANS - It is the belief that our heart is evil and flawed at its very core. Outside Christ the heart cannot be made good. Does it mean that none of God's original goodness shows through? Then what does it mean? ANS - The basic goodness of God can be seen in mankind, but that it is flawed, contaminated, and tainted with sin. The doctrine of moral depravity is that our hearts and minds are filled with ****, sexual sin, murderous thoughts, the desire to steal, every type of moral wrong. Does it mean that none of God's original goodness shows through? Everyone has that thing that is good, no matter how small there is good in a man. Then what does it mean? In mankind there is a mixture of good and eveil, infortunately because of our selfish sin nature, the ugly part wins out so often, even when we think we desire the good. I do tnot think modern man wants to face the reality of the fact that we are indeed sinners and there is one way out...throught the redeeming blood of Jesus. Even the good a person may intend my come from mixed emotions. The law identifies wrong in us, but cannot save us. B)Glimpses God’s original goodness can be seen in actions & words, but may come from mixed motives so cannot be trusted.c)We don’t want to be in need;we like self-sufficiency & be in control.Man tends to believe man is basically good, because he is blinded to the deceitfulness of the heart,& think we can fix errors in us in our own strength,& not recognise our need for Gods saving power. I believe that modern man believes that he is basically good because, as Jeremiah 17:9 says, his heart is "deceitful". The Bible says, The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, who can know it. Lot of times we say something and then can't believe it came from our mouth. - We are made in God's image, but the good in us is corrupted. In every aspect, man is flawed. Our flesh is corrupt and even the good we do may be with the wrong motives. - Modern man does not believe he is a wretch. He believes he is somewhat good and can improve on himself, self help books, trying to keep the law. Man cannot save or improve himself. The law or being good cannot save us. It does not mean that there is no good in man but mixture of good and evil, even though what good is in man is tainted because of our sinful nature.We may do good, but we do it with wrong motives specifically for our own gain. Our heart is deceitful and wicked. We are sinners by nature. We do not have to be taught how to sin; it is inherited. Just about everything we do is is corrupted one way or another. I believe that modern man tend to believe that man is basically good because of the good acts that we do. Most may not commit adultery, or steal or rob a bank or murder, commit what man sees at big sins. Modern man does not recognize that mental sins or thoughts of the mind as being sin, only acts of sin therefore they think man is basically good. The Bible teaches that man is deceitful and wicked in Jeremiah 17:9 and in Romans 8:7-8 it says 7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. Isaiah says that man's righteousness is like filthy rags in God's sight. We are corrupted down to the core by sin, ever since the fall of man in the Garden. The flesh is not holy. There is no Godliness in us in the unregenerate state. Even the good we can do isn't good enough. If we scratch deep enough we WILL find an ulterior motive, some self-serving agenda. It is only by the indwelling Holy Spirit that we are good enough in God's sight. On our own we can't make the grade, no matter how "good" we appear to be to our fellow man. Does it mean that none of God's original goodness shows through? No, we are made in God's image. Then what does it mean? We're tainted with evil and it's beyond our own capacity to remedy that. Why does modern man tend to believe that man is basically good? How does this differ from what the Bible teaches? No one wants to believe that he's a villain. I'm sure even the most depraved people in history still believed they were good, down inside. Hitler, Jeffrey Dharma, Ivan Mallatt, all likely believed they were OK. A former close friend of mine believed that he didn't need to become a Christian. He reckoned the good in him well and truly outweighed the evil. If God did exist and he did face judgment by the Almighty, he was sure God would let him off because he was more good than bad. Mind you, this was before he was outed as a paedophile!! His depravity knew no bounds. He was into kiddie ***********, incest, homosexuality, you name it. His life was ruled by his sexual deviousness. He was self-serving and manipulative in the extreme and thought nothing of using and discarding people once they were no longer of any use to his agenda. Yet he still believed he was basically a good person. Why is he an ex-friend? When his incest and depravity came to light, revealed by his horrified Christian wife at the time, he successfully covered his tracks by telling everyone that I'd recruited her to an exclusive Christian cult and that we conspired to make all that stuff up to get rid of him and to deny him access to his daughter (she was only three years old when his wife found out what he was doing to her) because he wouldn't join the cult. He was so manipulative that EVERYONE believed him and my Christian witness in the sport of Powerlifting was completely ruined. I had to retire from the sport with the reputation as a liar and the home wrecker who destroyed the sport's president's marriage. Satan scored a major win there. This whole "I'm a good person" ideology is one of Satan's most successful deceptions. Modern man believes he doesn't need redeeming because he's basically good. The Bible teaches the opposite. There is some good in us but again one can never be sure that the intentions are totally pure. Then what does it mean? Why does modern man tend to believe that man is basically good? I guess because if you don't know you have a problem you can't fix it. So if we believe that we are basically good we are not alert to search our hearts and be sure that out true intentions are pure. Also we will not cry out for a saviour. How does this differ from what the Bible teaches? The Bible teaches that a man's heart is deceptive and conniving and no one can truly know their heart. But in reality we are a mixture of both good and evil...God seesin us and dwells on that, where we as humans see both the good and bad and we tend to dwell on the bad more than the good. This is not to say that some of God's original goodness does not show through, for it does. However, this goodness cannot be totally trusted since we are a mixture of good and evil. Modern man tends to believe just the opposite of what the Bible teaches believing that man is basically good with a degree of corruption blended in and that this is all fixable. Until we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are poor, blind, naked, etc. Without God in the world. We want to believe that, without God, we can do good things, and still be good in the heart. Man is basically bad, it is so easy for fallen man to think bad thoughts and behave sinfully, look at the news and statistics of crime, wars, broken marriages etc. Some of God's goodness is in us, but it is corrupted beyond redemption, only God is good and through the rebirth of the Holy Spirit can become good. There is some good that shows through, but man's basic nature is wretched. Modern man is arrogant. It's easier to believe man is basically good because they feel they earned their way into heaven. Man cannot or will not see himself. It's hard for some to acknowledge that they are wretched men. The world teaching that if one is good enough, one earns his way into heaven. If one treats others right and "does good," he's an okay person. This notion is built on man's arrogance and pride. Also, as far as "good" is concerned, who determines what's good or not. Man's interpretation of "good" will not fly because "good" can mean different things to different people. Man does not set the standard. The above way of thinking is totally opposite of what the Bible says. God knows that heart of each and other man, woman, and child on the earth. How does this differ from what the Bible teaches? The doctrine of total depravity refers to the state of man as a result of the original sin where he is hopelessly lost, separated from God. His flesh is totally corrupted by sin and he is utterly unable to choose to follow God. Sin is dominates his life and even the good he does is faulty in its intention or motive. His sinful self hates whatever is of God and only seeks to fulfill the desires of the flesh. However this does not mean that we don't have any of God's original goodness. We were created in the image of God and we still have that image. We may also show some goodness in our actions but even that is due to some faulty motives or just bad acts in disguise. Therefore man on his own effort cannot find a way to God. However, the death of Jesus Christ on the cross has redeemed us from the bondage of sin and are free to choose God and his ways. One just has to repent, believe in God's supreme sacrifice, the death of Christ for our sins, and follow Him to break loose from this bondage. The Holy Spirit will empower us to be righteous and holy. Modern man tends to believe that man is basically good. They believe that man has some capacity to do good. Believing that man is incapable of doing good is an insult and hurts our ego. He just deceives himself thinking that he can do good without God's help. However this differs from what the bible teaches. Our good works are filthy rags before God as it is wrought with deceit and faulty motives. So in our flesh alone, we are corrupted and depraved. I think that there is a remnant of God's original goodness within us, which may differ from person to person; for example one may be kind always to children yet hate others, and again, one may love the marriage state yet **** after looseness. Modern man, especially these days, with his vast amount of technological skill, seems to think that basic holiness, if in fact he considers it at all, is apparent in all, as to accept otherwise seem to be alien to his modern thinking, as he has doubtless not searched the scriptures, considering them to be 'old hat'. he scrtipturtes of curse clearly differ in pronoucing ALL men to be lost and corrupt in their natural state. Our gold is mixed with dross and life is a struggle. We have mixed motives and we have to crucify our flesh and desires and surrender to Jesus and Him alone. We have to an about turn. Gods good ness does shine through, we are not totaly evil .. We are such a mixture and that is why we have to be all out for Christ. Modern man I think suffers from pride and deceitfulness. He does not want to see himself as he is, a sinner.
