All social institutions, and society itself, need some sort of structure and someone to make final decisions for the good of the group or there will be anarchy. This is also true within a marriage which is after all a social institution. Someone must be the final authority and take the ultimate responsibility. According to Paul, this is the husband

Q1. (Ephesians 5:22-24) Why should a wife submit to her husband?

A wife should submit to her husband because it is God's order for the husband to be the head.

According to these verses, to what degree is a wife required to submit to a husband who is not a Christian or who is a carnal Christian?

A wife must submit to her husband in "everything" regardless if he is a carnal Christian or not a Christian.

Does submission mean a wife doesn't verbally disagree?

No. She can disagree as long as it is in a loving way.

What if there's a conflict with the wife's conscience?

If there is a conflict witht he wife's conscience than she can tell him she can't do it and have a good conscience.

there are three reasons why the wife is to be sumissive to her husband .one to submit is God's will. two She loves the Lord: therefore, to please Him she

submits herself to her husband.Three to submit is God's order for the family.

The submission they have made to Christ is not one of fear and defeat but one of joyous discovery of a loving Lord. So a wife who finds in her husband a soul mate who has her best interest at heart will gladly listen to his guidance. The Greek wordf for submission used here does not imply an inferiority of personhood but rether describes subordination to one who is worthy os respect. Lest husbands be tempted to turn their wives' submission into an autocratic rule over them, they were admonished to love their wives with the same kind of love and reverence they have expressed to christ.

Q1. (Ephesians 5:22-24) Why should a wife submit to her husband?

According to these verses, to what degree is a wife required to submit to a husband who is not a Christian or who is a carnal Christian?

She is required to allow the husband, Christian or not, to have the final responsibility in decisions, unless he proposes something which is immoral, or illegal, or violates her conscience. This is the structure the Lord designed for the family to promote order and to eliminate anarchy...When we say "I do", we become yoked to our spouse, and are to co-labor in unity as much as is possible for the well being of the marriage and the family. This is why the the Bible teaches us to not become yoked together with an unbeliever....our very hearts motivation will be pulling in opposite directions from each other.

Does submission mean a wife doesn't verbally disagree?

No. The husband is not a dictator who is to be obeyed without question. The wife is free to give her opinion, discuss, or disagree in a loving and respectful way, but the final decision and responsibility rests with the husband.

The husband isn't expected to be the fount of wisdom exclusive of his wife. The interaction and discussion allows the wife's gifts, wisdom, knowledge and experience to come into the decision making to add richness to the wisdom, knowledge and experience of the husband. After prayer (hopefully!!!!), the husband holds the final responsibility for the welfare of the family.

What if there's a conflict with the wife's conscience?

If she's being asked/told to do something which violates her conscience or the Word of God, she is to explain that she cannot go along with what is being proposed/demanded.

Q1. (Ephesians 5:22-24)

Why should a wife submit to her husband?

According to these verses, to what degree is a wife required to submit to a husband who is not a Christian or who is a carnal Christian?

Does submission mean a wife doesn't verbally disagree?

What if there's a conflict with the wife's conscience?

A basic principle in every well-ordered society is that there must be authority as well as submission. If not then there will be anarchy. The same applies in the home. There must be a head, and there must be obedience to that head. God ordained that the place of headship be given to the man. He indicated this by creating man first, then creating woman for the man. Thus, both in the order and purpose of creation, He put man in the place of authority and woman in the place of submission. Submission never implies inferiority. Never is the woman inferior to the man. In many ways she may be superior - in devotedness, in sympathy, in diligence, and in heroic endurance. But wives are commanded to submit to their own husbands, as to the Lord. In submitting to the authority of her husband, a wife is submitting to the Lord's authority. No wife would be expected to obey her husband if he required her to compromise her loyalty to the Lord Jesus. But in all the normal relationships of life, she is to obey her husband, even if he is an unbeliever. A wife can verbally disagree with her husband and even give him advice but the ultimate decision will be the head of the house, and he must take all responsibility for his decisions.

Because that is what God has stated in the Bible but man is also supposed to submit to the wife. Just as the church is subject to Christ. No it does not as long as it is done in a respectful way and that also goes for the husband to. If it does not go along with what Christ has stated in His word she does not have to submit to it.

1. Why should a wife submit to her husband?

Because the Word of God teaches it is fitting to the Lord. And that he is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church.

2. According to these verses, to what degree is a wife required to submit to a husband who is not a Christian or who is carnal Christian?

For both Christian and Non Christians the Lord is the supreme head and that his commands take precedence over the husband when they are in conflict.

3. Does submission mean a wife doesn't verbally disagree?

No it does not but like you said the wife should do whatever she can to help him see things from a broader perspective. She must lovingly and submissively correct him when he is wrong, not to put him down.

4. What if there's a conflict with the wife's conscience?

Then she should always obey the Lord's command.

What if there's a conflict with the wife's conscience?

1. Why should a wife submit to her husband?

The reason given for a wife to submit to her husband is because he is the "head of the wife as Christ is of the Church. Ephesian 5:22-24 tells us Wives submit to your husbands is that he is the head of th wife as christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ so also wives should submit to thier husbands in everything. If the husband requires the wife to do something illegal, immoral or which endanger her safety or the safety of the children or something that she is conscience will not work then she is to tell him I'm sorry but I can't in good conscience to that. She must lovingly and submissively correct him when he is wrong.

2. According to these verses, to what degree is a wife required to submit to a husband who is not a Christian or who is a carnal Chrisitan?

A wife should consult with God who is her true husband on what is the right thing to do. A husband who is not a Christian and who is a carnal Chrisitian has the same charateristics and they are not with consulting God. God is her true husband in this situation.

3. Does submission mean that a wife doesn't verbally disagree.

No that is not what it means, it means she is to tell him I'm sorry but I can't in good conscience to that. She must lovingly and submissively correct him when he is wrong. Not put him down but to build him up and make him a better man.

If there is a conflict with her conscience, they both should go down in prayer and consult God for the answer.

1a) Because she is asked to as to the Lord in scripture. Voluntary submission shows love for husband as head of the relationship, Both are of equal worth to God,Husbands have responsibilities towards wife. cool.gif b)We are asked submit to husbands in everything unless asked to do something illegal, immoral or putting self or child in danger. huh.gif

C)No. Wife should contribute her experience & wisdom in relevant areas providing strength to marriage &leadership in those areas, helping husband and building him up.Submitting to Christ first, enables us to voluntarily submit in our marriage. smile.gif

d)If wife asked to do something in conflict with her conscience, need to pray for guidance, say unable to comply as she cannot compromise her faith. wink.gif

A wife should submit herself to her husband because the Word of God instructed her to do so.

According to these verses a wife is required to submit to her husband in everything. However, to a husband who is not a Christian or one who is a carnal Christian her responsibility is to God.

Submission does not mean that a wife does not verbally disagree but in matters of faith and conscience or in matters where the wife has a more nworking knowledge she can peacefully excuse herself and lead the husband to a more peaceful solution.

If there is a conflict with the wife's conscience in this case she should consult the advocate, thew Holy Spirit for clarification and guidance.

I think that a wife should submit to her husband because there needs to be only one person in charge of the house. If there are two people in charge then there will be chaos. Each person should to the task that God has given them the ability to do.

I don’t think that the scripture differentiates being a Christian or not. But they are not to do things that are against the bible. And it doesn’t mean that they wife can’t verbally disagree with the husband. She may know a better way of doing something and so it should be discusses. If what the husband wants her to do conflict with the wife’s conscience then she shouldn’t do it and explain it to her husband.

A wife should submit to her husband because according to Eph. 5:22-24 her husband id the head of the wife should respond respectfull, just as Christ is head of the church.

If the husband is not a believer she should still respectfully submit humbly to him. Because of her actions it is possible he may become a believer.

Even in submission a wife can still object verbally to her husbands reasoning and decisions he makes. She should make constructive suggestions rather than out him down. It would be vest for her to build him up for the sake of their relationship.

If a wife's conscious bothers her about her husbands decisions because it would involve something illegal or dangerous to the family she must decide to tell her husband how she feels about the decision. It could lead to disaster to their faith and the law.

The husband is to be the head of the family just as Christ is the head of the church. This does not mean that the wife is to be his slave or not to have a voice in the running of the family. The wife is not to blindly follow a man that does not keep within the path of God. She has her own conscious and her own soul to protect. The wife must follow her first love that would be God and Jesus.

Because the husband is thread of the wife.

In everything.

A wife can verbally disagree, and make her opinion known.

If the wife feels she cannot do something in good conscience then she can let it be known and let it go.

I see two premises to this question: (i)God did not come to bring chaos and anarchy, but good order. Marriage needs good order. And it helps to have submission to headship in the sense of a voluntary placement of oneself under another, as our life model, Jesus the Christ so lovingly submitted to the Father’s will. I shudder to think where we would be without this utter and noble submission.
(ii)Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. We regard Christ in awe, we admire Him, we respect Him. And so our love for Him flows freely from our hearts. It seems that the word submission in the secular world immediately evokes emotions of one being bossed around by the husband; whereas in the Christian sense it is a loving and admirable state of the heart which focuses on Christ. And in a loving marriage, the husband ends up loving and cherishing his wife in an awesome manner because he is blessed by this wifely submission. However, in the case of a husband who is not a Christian, or is a carnal Christian (which sounds like an oxymoron), it becomes more challenging for the wife because she should still submit to her husband to the same degree while bearing in mind that the Lord is the supreme head, and that his commands take precedence over those of a husband when husband and wife are in conflict. This ensures that the wife does not compromise her faith and conscience to uphold the principle of submission.

A wife should submit to her husband because he is the head of the wife like Jesus is to the church.

A wife is to submit to her husband in the decisions he makes unless it truly goes against something that is wrong according to The Lord. It's takes wisdom from the Lord on how to properly deal with a person who is carnal or not a Christian and they are making poor choices. It's takes prayer also. A wife can verbally disagree with her husband. She has a right to have an opinion as long as it is a godly opinion and advice but in the end sometimes you just have to let people go with their decision even if it's wrong but still pray about it first that the Lord will bring good out of it and that hopefully the husband will change if he is making unwise choices that's hurting himself or the family. The wife must go by the word first in making choices and not do anything against God but ultimately sometimes you have to let the other person make a mistake and believe they will learn from it.

As a Christian woman, I agree with headship in concept, but in practice know it’s difficult.

If the wife is the sort of woman who is happy in a housewife role among  kids and grandkids and does not have a career she loves (or is making less money than her husband), submission/headship seems to work relatively easily assuming her husband is capable of being the breadwinner, Father-Knows-Best dad and is spiritually mature. These so-called “power disparities” in the home segue into a spiritual hierarchy or headship rather easily.

Where headship breaks down is two-fold: first, the capacity of the man/husband to do his part as leader, and, second, the willingness of the woman to submit to him. The woman must will herself into submission and trust just as the man must will himself into a spiritual maturity that merits her trust.

Men tend to look past their own failings to accuse women of not submitting and breaking up families. Women tend to accuse men of falling short of doing the hard work of sanctification and personal growth and not living up to their end “of the bargain.”

I see headship as pivoting on two capacities. First, both individuals must be growing in the Lord and spiritually maturing; second, there must be simultaneous growing, spiritually maturing trust in each other.

--

From a woman’s perspective, I  know it's quite difficult for a capable, intelligent woman to defer to someone she doesn’t respect or trust, particularly if her distrust is merited. Also, as a woman, I know that headship is not pretending to be weak nor is it cajoling or manipulating a man into feeling good about himself with constant ego-stroking. It is not about mitigating his weakness but rather about increasing his, her and their spiritual strengths through submission.

Headship requires trust. Again, from a woman’s perspective, headship is trusting that the man she loves will remain and grow in his faith, and will put God into and before the marriage; that is, it is about trusting him enough to willingly put her life -- but never her faith – into his hands. I pray to be worthy of such a relationship.

A wife would submit to her husband out of love for him.    A heart of love, and dialogue, a godly woman would agree with his decisions.  However, these decisions must not be contradictory to the Holy Bible and Orthodox Christain ethics.  True, the husband represents the Lord Jesus Christ, but under no circumstances is he to act and decide matters----unbecoming of a true Christian man.  There is a very fine line here.   A Christain woman is a temple of the Holy Spirit; she belongs to the Body of Christ, the Church of the Firstborn.   She is not obligated to accept nor submit to ungodly behaviours of her husband.

A number of Amish women have been seriously victimized by their ungodly husbands' sinfull desires and bizarre behaviours.   There comes a time when separation from such men is absolutely necessary.   A woman doesn't not have to submit to a husband that ignores Bible ethical teachings, including the church's rules in regards to a true Christian marriage and family life.

A Christain woman has the right to verbally disagree.  A true man of God will heed to the Word of God and ask for God's direction.  A wife and mother should not be afraid to voice her opinions.  This is a big problem amongst the Amish and conservative Mennonites.   Women have a faulty view that their husbands are infallible.  Tragic that the Amish hierarchy fosters undue submission to the husbands.  So there have been serious issues amongst conservative Anabaptist groups:  infidelity, child abuse, and people living double lives.

I love EZEKIEL chapter 37.  Prophet Ezekiel was so united with his people that God instructed him to prophesy over dead bones.  Prophet Ezekiel had the holy privilege to speak the word of life to the dead bones.   Than later, he joined the two sticks together!   The ten lost tribes joined to Judah and Benjamin.   So Prophetic of the church, Christ the only begotten Son of God, came down from heaven, to His Bride.
