Because of carelessness and indifference, we may easily begin to pay less attention to God's warnings. We must pay close attention to God's Word, our relationship to Christ and the leading of the Holy Spirit. That good seeds will be planted but the evil one comes alongside and snatches it away. If we live by the Holy Spirits power of dicernment we will produce the fuit of the Spirit but if we walk in the flesh and drifted by the world we will produce the works of the flesh (Galatian 5). We drfit by allowing the flesh to minimize the Power of the gospel and silencing our fellowship with Christ. We must pay close attention to what we've heard, divine revelation so that we don't drift away by the wiles of the devil. In the revealed word of our LORD AND SAVIOR he says, Mathew17For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it. 18"Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. Drifting from the Word( which is the harvest that produces good fruit) leaves and open portal for the enemy to to plant seeds of iniquity in our lack of understanding. Fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. We see in Romans 1:18 that God shows His anger from heaven heaven against all sinful, wicked people who push the truth away from themselves. For the truth is known instinctively. A reprobate mind drifts and becomes consumed by the current of the world. When the enemy comes in likea flood we must lift the stardard of the Lord against him. Knowledge-understanding-wisdom-honor.....pattern in Christ.. We must decrease so that Christ increase through his Word becoming our heart of flesh. It is easy to drift away from the gospel if we do not put Christ first in our lives. This means first in our thoughts and actions. We need to daily draw close to the Lord by practicing spiritual disciplines such as prayer and worship. Jesus described this drift as:Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. Because we are surrounded by sin and at times its lure is more powerful than God because of the instant gratification that can be gained. He gave may examples of how people drift away and all of these ways are still very valid in todays society. This parable is close to my heart because it is me I have drifted so many times. I try so hard not to let the world's worries overtake me like the thorns described in the story. This is what I need to pray for so I will not drift away again. If we do not read the Scripture or if we read the scripture and do not pay attetion to what scrpture it is saying and live our lives according to scripture. We will drift away from what we need to so desperatly hold unto. We can sucessfully resit the tendency to drift by reading and studying the word and the every day get up and pray that we live and acted as the Father would want us to in no matter what situation we may come in contact with. Jesus described the driffting away as the sower had gone out to sew his crops and some of the seeds fell on rocky soil some fell on hard soil and still others on thorny soil, this is representation of the Word (as being the seeds) and the soil (as being the people) who hear the word and what active part we take in doing as the Father wills. The hard soil, the rocky soil and the thorny soil all fell away and did not blossom. But the good soil is what we all need to strive to be with prayer and supplcation unto the LORD. Q3 Fisrtly not agnologing Jesus as the true Son of God but mearly as an angel, human messenger as well as not accepting or minimising his word as final would have great cause to drift away. Men would have a choice to accept his opinion or not. By taking care to take heed of his word in the Gospel, and by doing as well as believing it to be true then we would have no reason to drift away "We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away." Jesus describes the "Parable of the Sower" as different circumstances and influences of the enemy and the outside world eg towards the Gospel and whether we choose to believe, understand and use the words of our Lord. In the parable of the sower Jesus describes this phenomenon by saying that if any one hears the word and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart,and another one will immediately receives with joy and endures for a while but but when tribulations, persecution,cares of this world,the deceitfulness,riches and desires for other things will drift us away from the gospel Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We start drifting away when we neglect praying to God for wisdom in living holy and acceptable according to His standards. We continue to drift away from God by getting consumed by sinful living and by conforming to the world's standards and opinions that are contrary to the ways of God. The moment we take our eyes off Jesus we began to drift. We can successfully resist the tendency to drift by guarding our hearts and minds and by being cautious of what we hear from the world's view versus Jesus perspective. Jesus described it as one who hears the truth but then gets carried away or caught up in the world's opinion and as an end result the truth is lost. Not being attentive with what we have heard about Jesus Christ, forgetting that we belong to Him and that we need to be saints as he is saint. We are to pay more attention to His Words, have a real relationship with The Lord Jesus Christ we will be immune to drift. In reading Matthew I was able to understand what the author was trying to convey that we must read , listen and comprehend what the the bible is saying . If we do not then what we hear just goes by the waist side and does not stick to us or keep us. Therefore, our refusal to pay attention can have detrimental consequences and can lead to us drifting away, and eventually to our ruin. We have to meditate on His Word and put into practise what we have heard; otherwise we may drift into apostasy. We must not take the truth and teaching of the gospel lightly; they are of supreme importance to us, and can, when we think of it become a matter of life and death - we must cherish and obey it at all costs. If we do not give our time, and quality time at that, then we could drift. The world is very inviting and satan diquises himself in many ways. The going trend what worldly people have to say about the gospel of "OLD" and other issues and matters, if we devert our time and energy into them then we could drift. Give our time in reading, studying praying worshipping listening and quite time to the Lord, His word. In the first the seeds that were sown they were eaten up by the birds, I take that the words just went in one ear and out the other, next the seeds were sown where there was not much earth but they grew but died when the sun came out as thier roots were not deep, I get the understanding that this bunch took the word and went with it but they did not let it grow within them so when the world came at them then they died also, then some seeds were thrown among the thorns and they were choked by the thorns, I take it that the word was given to those who were living amongst the unbeleivers who were greater in number and who enforced their ways and beliefs thus killing the word, then there were the seeds that fell on good ground producing a good crop a good yield, those would be the ones that heard the word and listened, allowing the word to grow in them, sharing the word with others. klhrich Posted July 14, 2009 Report Share Posted July 14, 2009 I am a teacher and I learned my teaching skills from Jesus Parables.......I think that is why I am a successful teacher...... Jesus always tells us things in a manner interesting and easy to understand based on our human nature. He doesn't speak in terms we don't understand. He knows what interests us and He tells us things in ways we enjoy learning from. He also teaches by making sure the stories are compelling. He wants us to really think about how this can be put into action in our lives immediately. His stories were the kind that you hear one minute and put into action the very next minute. This is simple......If we are not "rooted" in God's word and praying daily......we will fall by the wayside and not be able to grow or hear what He wants us to do. There are several things that a Christian must be mindful of in order to keep from drifting away. 1. Failure to walk according to the light we have already received. Disobedience to the will of God is always devastating if not corrected. To those who obey, more light will be given, but to those who do not obey, the light they already have will be taken away. 2. Forgetfullness- Hearing the Word of God, and then walking away and forgetting about it. 3. Worldliness, for the world competes for the love that belongs to God alone. Loving the world is spiritual idolatry. 4. Playing around with sin, which is spiritual adultery. 5. Failure to develope spirtual disciplines, like praying, Bible Study, Church attendance, etc. ( See Hebrews 10:28) 6. Compromising our convictions, which leads to further compromises, and progressively leads us away from God. b. We can resist the tendency to drift by spending time with God and other Christians, daily worshipping God, daily confession of sin, quickly repenting when needed, daily receiving cleansing and the empowering of the Holy Spirit, and live like a Christian 24 hours a day. c. Jesus demonstrated the phenomenom of drifting by showing the common things that cause the hearing of the word to be unprofitable. They are disregard, distraction, and discouragement. We are not immune to drifting away because we do not heed to God's word. We cannot hear God's word and do nothing about it. We have to hear and do. We have to believe the truth. we have to be obedient to God's word. There is great danger in being neglectful of Jesus' words. Neglect, carelessness, or unconcern is fatal. We can resist the tendency by paying close attention to God's Word, our relationship to Christ, and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Satan is walking around like a lion to steel the truth from us. Once there was a farmer who put seeds in the ground. This a metaphore for Jesus who gave us the gospel. Some seeds fel on the road where the birds ate it. Meaning, some people just do not listen because Satan convinced them it is not true. Some seeds grow to a small plant that died. i.e. Other people listen and try it for a time. Satan whispers in their ear: this verse has a deeper meaning (which leads to speculation), this rule is oldfashioned (sex without marriage), 'Befehl ist Befehl' you do not have to mean it as long as you strictly obey the rules (which makes us a pharizee), you can deserve His Grace with good deeds or with money, Jesus is not the Son of God (muslims), He did not die on the cross because God let a substitute being crucified (muslims), the pope has Peter's authority, ... He goes on and on until some people leave the narrow road for the broad one. Some seeds grow to a plant that makes seeds of its own. i.e. Some people have (volharding) and put their faith on Jesus even if they are thrown in a pit with lions. They spread the gospel, inspire other persons to do the same, ... We have to read the Bible daily so we can recognize Satan's lies about it. Sometimes we do not want to because there is a nice movie on TV, we think once a week will do, that reading it only one time in our live is enough, ... Then we drift away. In Dutch we say, if you open the door, he puts his foot in between... So 'do not open the door' by reading everyday and pray for the Spirit to assist us. The metaphors of SLEEP, Being AWAKE, WATCHING, and GUARDING are of the same discipline. The Sower illustrates the various ways / attitudes / efforts that the seed is handled. Deal with the SEED.
