Q1. (Colossians 1:5-6)

Paul glorifies the gospel, the good news. What words does he use to describe the action of the gospel in verses 5 and 6?

Given the temptation the recipients have to adopt another religious philosophy, why do you think he reminds them of the world scope of the gospel's influence?

What happens in our day when a church becomes embarrassed or unimpressed with the gospel message?

How does this affect the church?

Paul describes the gospel as a message of true good news, as the word of truth. He also states that the gospel bears fruit in the salvation of souls, transforming us into children of our Lord, and at the same time maturing us as believers, making us more and more like our Lord and Saviour Jesus. This growth was demonstrated by the rapid growth of the gospel in the then known world. The gospel must be preached as is, not diluted in any way. When we start fiddling with the Word to adapt it to our modern society then we will encounter problems. The truth needs to be maintained and told to all. It is when we lose our enthusiasm for the Word our numbers start to decline.

Paul said that the gospel is producing fruit and growth. He reminded this church body that the faith and love he commended in them was being created through the hope of the gospel. This hope is for all that has been prepared and is being held ready in heaven. The influence of the truth of God's grace was being seen "indeed in the whole world". It was important to remind them of the accurate and true source of such life-changing hope to prevent any glory or credit being claimed for themselves or attributed to false gods. It wasn't/isn't a religious philosopy that changes people's hearts and redeems them to Yahweh - it is the living power of the gospel! The hope of ultimate redemption in Christ and the glory of eternal life with Christ are beyond what the world can dream up or produce!

When a church becomes embarrassed or unimpressed with the gospel message, it loses the very message of hope that Paul is speaking of. With that gone, springs of steadfast faith and a lifestyle of sacrificial love dry up. Any witness of grace then rings hollow or hypocritical. Growth is stunted and genuine fruit is rare to nonexistent. The church loses its outward focus, as attention turns inward. As it actually becomes a negative testimony, this church will practice religion but fail to see/experience the foundation of hope in Christ. I've been in a church like that, and it's heartbreaking.

Paul tells the Colossian Christians that the same gospel (word of truth) that came to them is bearing fruit and growing throughout the entire known world in the same way and with the same results as when they heard and understood God’s grace.

Apparently, the church needed to hear that Epaphras was a faithful minister of God’s truth in Christ and that there was no need for them to seek another religious philosophy.

When a church loses confidence in the power and effectiveness of the Gospel, they begin to doubt what they believe and seek answers elsewhere.

The church opens itself up to false teachings and misinterpretations that cause it to become ineffective and unproductive. Believing anything, they believe nothing and turn away from the truth for lies.

1. The gospel is bearing fruit and growning.

2. To let the people at Colosse know that it wss not a dying religion but a growing and flourishing one.

3 & 4. If a church becomes embarrased or unimpressed with the gospel - it will die. God has a work and a plan and if we or the church are not part of that plan he will find someone else to use. His church unable or unwilling to do His work will wilt away.

Q1 The gospel which Paul glorifies brings good news. It is the word of 'Truth' that can be trusted which brings salvation. It is also 'Active & bears

fruits.' Through the 'Word' the believers can be transformed, a born-anew christian and will lead holy life.

The Gospel truth has influenced around the world, Paul has reminded the Colossians of the day when they first heard it and understood of the grace of God

in truth and that they are not an isolated church

A church becomes embarrassed or unimpressed with the gospel message is doomed. The people will be scattered without any guidance and their faith will

waiver and eventually be lead astray by the circular world.

Paul used the words 'bearing fruit' to tell the Colossian Church that the gospel or good news of the Lord Jesus is active and is bringing many to receive the Lord Jesus Christ. He had to remind the Church to hold firm to the true gospel that has the Lod Jesus as the center instead of turning to another faith where Christ is not its center.

In our days, there ae areas where the gospel is shrinking and messages in many churches are more on prosperity, miracles and all the stuff that is more of worldly inclination instead of salvation of souls. This is a dangerous phenominum.

The words that Paul uses to describe the action of the gospel are : "bearing fruit" and "growing". He reminds them of the world scope of the gospels influence so that they will not lack confidence and falter under the pressure of being a minority group.

In our day, when a church or an individual becomes embarrassed or unimpressed with the gospel message---their light grows dim---like a hot coal being taken out of a fire--it loses its heat and goes out--- no one would be attracted to a church like that.

In verses 5 and 6, Paul glorifies the gospel by speaking of the Love and Faith that spring from the Hope that is stored in Heaven. He speaks of the Fruit that is growing in believers all over the world.

I think Paul reminds the Colossians that the Gospel is influencing the world so that they will know that they are part of something Big.

In our day, I think a church that became embarrassed or unimpressed with the gospel message would stop being a church and degenerate into a club.

Paul describes the actions of the gospel as truth that has reached the Colossians church to all over the world. The gospel is described as bringing forth fruit as it has when the Colossians church received the good news and came to the knowledge of the grace of God in truth.

Given the temptation the recipients have to adopt another religious philosophy, why do you think he reminds them of the world scope of the gospel's influence?

I believe that Paul reminds the Colossians about the influence that the gospel message was having throughout the whole world because his intention was to open their eyes to the power of Gods work. He was displaying fact regarding the fruitfulness of working for God. Regardless of the opposition, nothing or no one was able to keep the good news un heard in spite of the persecution, and in this case Paul was showing them that their labour in spreading the good news wasn

a.

- The gospel is the hope that is stored up in heaven. A hope from which faith and love spring forth.

- The gospel is the word of truth.

- The gospel is bearing fruit and growing rapidly.

- The gospel gives us an understanding of God's grace.

b.

The Colossians might have felt they were an isolated minority, not a part of a movement that is rapidly growing and bearing fruit. Paul wanted to encourage the Colossians and show them they are most definitely not alone. They were part of something really big.

c.

When a church in our time becomes embarassed with or is unimpressed by the gospel message, that church loses its saltiness and is useful for nothing but to be thrown away. This church will turn away from the central focus, Jesus. Ir eventually will not preach the gospel at all anymore. So, it loses its most important reason of existence, preaching the gospel.

I feel Paul wrote these words to remind us that we are not alone, the Gospel is preached throughout the world. The gospel is working and changing lives for believers all over the world. If we as a church find certain parts of the gospel "unappealing" we run the risk of becoming like society around us, following the desires of the flesh rather than the spirit.
