Q3. Holding Fast the Word of Life

Recommended Posts

Q3. (2:16) In what sense are we Christians to "hold fast" the Word of Life? In what sense are we to "hold forth" this Word of Life?

Basically what I think it means is that no matter what's going on in this world or our lives we need to hold on to the Word of God and believe that.

How does this relate to the purpose of the church?

It shows the world that what we have in Christ is worth having.

Keep a tight grip on the word. Hold stead-fast in our beliefs and humble ourselves and hold on to the Word.

How does this relate to the purpose of the Church?

Would be beneficial to get churches back on track with the way God intended.

I BELIEVE WE ARE TO HOLD FAST THE WORD OF LIFE AND NEVER LET GO OF THE FOUNDATIONAL TRUTHS WE LEARNT ABOUT GOD AND HIS CHARACTER DESPITE THE ADVERSITIES OF LIFE.WHEN WE PERSEVERE IN SPITE OF TRIALS, WITH A GOOD ATTITUDE OF HEART LIKE THE APOSTLE PAUL, PEOPLE SEE THE CHRIST IN US RATHER THAN US HAVING TO TELL THEM WE HAVE CHRIST IN US.

WE HOLD FORTH THIS WORD OF LIFE BY SHARING WITH OTHERS THE SOURCE OF ETERNAL LIFE WHICH IS CHRIST JESUS.WE HOLD IT FORTH BY LIVING OUT THE GOSPEL DAILY BEFORE THOSE WHO ARE IN OUR PATHWAY.OUR ACTIONS TOWARD OTHERS SPEAKS MORE TO THEM THAN OUR WORDS.WE NEED TO SHARE JESUS, HOLDING FORTH HIS WORD TO THEM THAT ARE SPIRITUALLY DYING IN THIS WORLD.

OUR PURPOSE IS TO HOLD FAST THE WORD , KEEP IT IN OUR HEARTS AND OUR MINDS, AND GO OUT INTO THE WORLD AND HOLD IT FORTH TO THE LOST SO THAT WE CAN SEE OTHERS COME TO SALVATION IN CHRIST AND BE RELEASED FROM ALL BONDAGES.....GOD BLESS....

1 Cor 15:58; "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as you know that you labor is not in vain in the Lord."

We, as individuals and corparetly, are to be witnesses for the Lord by our testimony and by our works. This is the essence of our purpose as our ability to do these things is a reflection of our inner selves, the true person of God.

Q3. (2:16) In what sense are we Christians to "hold fast" the Word of Life? In what sense are we to "hold forth" this Word of Life? How does this relate to the purpose of the church?

"Holding fast or holding forth" to the Word of Life comes down to one thing believing in the Author and Finisher of our faith. We know what He asks of us through His word and we, through a loving obedience and being in Christ, do. We hold on to His promises and trust that His will is for our best. The Word should be with us at all times, thus we know His will. If we don't hold fast or forth the Word of Life we don't have Christ in us, nor do we have any hope. A church that doesn't hold fast mor forth to the Word of Life is just a building with a sign. When the Word holds forth or fast in the church it is God's sanctuary!

"Hold fast" means for the church to stand strong until he comes again. We are to continue being the Bible individually and together corperately for this maybe the only Bible others read or hear. Continue to be strong churches and minister to each other and the community.

Q3. (2:16) In what sense are we Christians to "hold fast" the Word of Life?

We are to "hold fast" the Word of life in the sense of daily reading and meditating upon the Word of God which is the Word of Life, so that are lives can reflect the lifestyle of a Christian.

In what sense are we to "hold forth" this Word of Life?

We are to "hold forth" this Word of Life by presenting it to the world in our proclamation of the gospel.

How does this relate to the purpose of the church?

The purpose of the Church is to present Christ to a dying world and this comes forth through the proclamation of the Word of God. Without the church doing its part in presenting the Word of God to the world, man would not have the opportunity to hear the Word and in hearing come to repentance.

its funny that this question has come up. i have been talking with a religionist who knows quite alot about the bible. but the light is not on. all i have been trying to do is let him ask the questions as i live out the life. what is sad though is he still thinks perfection comes from the law. and somehow we can attain it. so light can either warm and illuminate or burn and blind. we must keep in step with the lord.

Q3. (2:16) In what sense are we Christians to "hold fast" the Word of Life? In what sense are we to "hold forth" this Word of Life? How does this relate to the purpose of the church?

We "hold fast" to the Word of Life in that we are to ground and shape our world view in God's Word. Not deviating from it.

We are to "hold forth" this Word of Life in that we present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world around us.

This relates to the church in that the church preaches and teaches the Word of God to the congregation and presents the Gospel of Jesus Chirst to the community and world around the church.

Q3. (2:16) In what sense are we Christians to "hold fast" the Word of Life? In what sense are we to "hold forth" this Word of Life? How does this relate to the purpose of the church?

In many other places, Paul talks about other versions of the gospel that are infiltrating the church. It could be that he's asking the Philippian believers to stick to the original message - the Word of Life. The context of this verse includes that Paul hopes that his labours would not be in vain. So if they came to believe a different gospel, then he would have preached to them the Word of Life for nothing.

I believe the purpose of the church is to help those who hear the Word to live it out in their community. To simply stick to what we believe is not enough - to call ourselves Christians and to argue famously for our theological beliefs is getting close to hypocracy...if we don't also live it. The church is our community and opportunity to really live out what Jesus taught us, and what Paul tried to help his churches to do ... to live out the eternal gospel in their very real and mortal worlds.

Our situation is no different today - we hold onto an eternal gospel that has the power to save. But we live in a mortal and sinful world. The church is the only organization, established by God himself, to live out what it means to be a Christian, in love and in community. (I suppose Marriage might be another such 'organization' but it's a different sort of thing.)

We are to hide God's word in our heart that we might not sin against him. We have to study his word and remember I Peter 3:15-Always be prepared to give an answer to anyone who asks you the reason for the hope you have.

We hold forth the word by telling others and by letting them see him in us.

The purpose of "the church" is to spread the gospel.

As Christians we have to remember that judgement day is coming for all. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, that is where it starts. It's just a plain simple fact that we know, the churches have to preach so that we can take as many with us to heaven as we possibly can.

Holding out unto His Righteousness and offering to all men the Word Of Life. So that in Christ I may have something to rejoice and glory in that I did not run my race in vain or spend my labor to no purpose.

Q3. (2:16) In what sense are we Christians to "hold fast" the Word of Life?

To literally hold onto to it...to read it, memorize it, trust it, regard it as our plumline for life, seek Him in it. Yesterday's headlines of our Pres. speaking at Notre Dame said "Obama uges openness to compromise on Abortion". More and more the world is pressing Christians to abandon the Word of God and to compromise with their fallen mores, so that they can feel comfortable in sin. We are to hold fast to His Word and to not compromise it's truth. We love the sinners but hate the sin.

Todays headline is "Obama puts onus on Israel" . We are to stand in the gap for Israel and to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, while the Arab nations want to destroy Israel, Now our President has taken a stand for America on the side of Israel's enemies. God help us! Each day the world gets darker, but His Word says to look for His soon coming!

In what sense are we to "hold forth" this Word of Life?

We are to hold it out to others...share it with others, as a life raft or life jacket...the only hope of their salvation. When situations arise as in yesterday's headlines, we can offer what God says about sacrificing the lives of our infants on the altars of Molech, Baal or Planned Parenthood.

How does this relate to the purpose of the church?

As stated in yesterdays questions, we are the be the light of the world. We are to shine like stars in a darkening world. His word is a light unto our path and a lamp unto our feet...we are to be the lamp to others in leading them to the truth of Jesus Christ unto salvation.

Q3. (2:16)

In what sense are we Christians to "hold fast" the Word of Life?

In what sense are we to "hold forth" this Word of Life?

How does this relate to the purpose of the church?

There is to be a twofold testimony of our lives, we are not only to be shining lights for Jesus but we are also to witness to others. By holding forth the word of life we proclaim our Maker and Redeemer to the whole lost world. To be able to witness the Word we need to be taught it. The purpose of the church, in this context, is to teach us the Word and to help us hold fast to it.

We hold fast to the Word of life both by living in agreement with the Word of God and by proclaiming the Word of God by way of witnessing and testifying to others. . .

The purpose of the Church is to be a witness for the Lord - to reconcile men back to God - to go into all the world and preach / teach the Gospel. Proclaiming the Word of God brings this about. . . Romans 1:16 (NLT)

16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes

Q3. (2:16) In what sense are we Christians to "hold fast" the Word of Life? In what sense are we to "hold forth" this Word of Life? How does this relate to the purpose of the church?

sola scriptura

The Bible is the basiscs of our life.

As John told us in Revelations, we don't add things and we don't remove things.

If God doesn't give us the details, they don't matter.

The catholics for example have lots of things that can't be found in the Bible - and therefore it can't be devine.

In churches in my country, it's popular to skip the verses that don't please us.

For example, we have lots of female pastors or gays.

Many christians don't even believe in the physical resurrection of Christ.

They don't hold to the word of life.

Q3. (2:16) In what sense are we Christians to "hold fast" the Word of Life?

The church are those who are "holding fast" to the "Word of Life" - Believers who are holding fast to their faith in the Messiah of Israel, applying this life giving "Word" to their lives, so that the world may see in their everyday walk, the "Joy" and "Hope" that lives within them, especially during those times, because of their faith, that afflictions come their way, that you will find them "holding fast", allowing their lives to live out, to preach to a dark world by illustration, the beautiful message of the gospel, as they - we - "hold fast" running the race to the end when the Messiah comes for the remnant of true believers, those who are "holding fast" to the end.

3a)As Christians we are to focus on scripture based teaching, living it out in our daily lives, and sharing the eternal hope we have in Jesus even when tested by trials.

b)We must not keep to ourselves these blessings,as we are Christ’s ambassadors, but shine brightly sharing the promises of hope, forgiveness, healing Christ offers through His word.

c)It is our job to share the good news & hope we have, to others for their healing and restoration through the Word of life. :D
