The term El-Elyon awe's me. He is beyond description. A Jewish Pslam states that if the earth were a pen and all the oceans an ink well, we could not write enough to praise or describe God.

Because He is Supreme Most High, He is worthy of our praise and obedience. He is our Creator-Father and most incredible, cares for our souls.[/size]

Abraham and Melchizedek both believed that God was creator of heaven and earth.

They believed that he was the only God during a time that people worshipped other and many Gods.

Both men seemed to have a personal relationship with God rather than worshipping iddols.

Good day Brethren,

Its so great to be taking part in this online bible study to learn more about who God is through His names!

I think Abraham and Melchizedek both believed that God most high is the creator of heaven and earth and that he is the olny one that can deliver ones enemies into ones hands.

Remain blessed in Him,

Abram and Melchizedek both believed that God Most High is the Possessor of heaven and earth, the true Victor and Bestower of blessing, and is worthy of their honor and loyalty. I say Amen!

The NKJV says "Possessor" in place of "Creator" in this passage. I don't know the original Hebrew word that is used here, but it's an interesting difference! Both these words are descriptive of His standing as Sovereign though!

The amplified Bible says "Possessor and Maker of heaven and earth". They both understood that the Most High created and owned it all.

Abraham and Melchizedek both believed that God was the creator of all. Not only did he create all things, but he was the supreme ruler of all things. He allowed things to take place and not to take place. God is the only one who can allow things to happen. Just like he allowed Abraham to take control of his enemy.

Abraham and Melchizedek seemed to acknowledge there was more than one God. They, (the Gods) were referred to differently. At this point in Genesis, they praised the most high God who possessed Heaven and Earth. This God had the ability to help a follower defeat his enemies. This God was mightier than the other Gods. I take this to mean This God is stronger, smarter, and wealthier than the other Gods that Abraham and Melchizedek they may have worshipped

Both Abraham and Melchizedek found that beyond all else, the God El, as he revealed himself to them, was able to go beyond any human abilities, or the abilities of any other "gods." He was the creator, the maker of all that was. Everything that they could see was the direct handiwork of a God that was capable, far beyond any god that their ancestors had manufactured. The "gods" made and exhaulted by man had no power, no ability beyond what was given to them by their human makers. Therefore their intervention into mankind was limited only to what man could conceive or do. This God, as he revealed himself to Abraham was totally different. He was not given existence or power by humans, but rather the tables turned. This God, El Elyon, had power within himself to create and to intercede in the lives of mankind. Victory was assured with God's intervention. Far beyond logic, reason or human comprehension God was able to turn the events of man to favor those who recognized him as most high. Here was a God who truly was worthy of their worship.

Q1. (Genesis 14:19, 20, 22) What did Abraham and Melchizedek seem to believe in common about God Most High?

They both believed that El Elyon was higher than all other gods being worshipped (by using the title "God Most High"). And that He is the supreme creator of all that is ("Creator of heaven and earth"). They both believed that God should have the glory for Abram's deliverance and wealth. (Melchizedek states "God Most High delivered your enemies into your hand" Abram says "I have raised my hand to the Lord

BOTH ABRAHAM AND MELCHIZEDEK BELIEVED THAT THE MOST HIGH GOD WAS THE CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH AND ALL THAT IS IN IT. THAT HE IS A SUPREME BEING WHO IS ABLE TO DELIVER YOUR ENEMIES INTO YOUR HAND FOR HE IS FAR MORE POWERFUL THAN ALL THE OTHER gods COMBINED.THIS IS A GOOD REASON TO WORSHIP HIM; BECAUSE HE IS CREATOR OF US ALL AND WE OWE HIM EVERYTHING. :

:D Both Abram and Melchizedek believed that "El Elyon" was the one true Creator of Heaven and Earth. Melchizedek believed that El could and would bless Abram, and that Abram enjoyed victory over his enemies as a direct result of El's intervention. Abram believed that El was to be honored above all, and that any vow or promise to El must be kept, 100%. Both men agreed that El was the Most High God, there was no other god above Him.
