Q4. Elements of Sacrifice

Recommended Posts

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6)

Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

The basis elements involved include confession and atonement.

In the past, as per Pastor Ralph's message, the key elements involve (1)confession of sin (2)bringing a defect-less animal (3)laying hands (4)slaying the animal (5)collection of blood by the priest (6)burning on the altar (7)consumption of the meat.

Cofession and atonement are still required for forgiveness of sins except that due to the evolution of society, the method of doing such has changed.

After the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, we can now come again to God directly by ourselves. We do not require a priest to carry out the procedure. God has given us the right to come to Him directly in the name of Jesus. We pray and confess our sins to Him.

Today, we no longer continue with animal sacrifice as well. Firstly, it becomes illegal as we are fighting with animal rights laws. Secondly, it is difficult to find 1 full lamb or goat unless we live on the farm. And we do not have the expertise to determine if the animal is suitable for offering.

But we still lay hands, except instead of on the animal physically, we bring it to God through Jesus's name who have died for us.

Our atonement is through our after-actions, whether we will commit the same sin repeatedly. We rely on God and the Holy Spirit's guidance as to how we live our actions.

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6)

1)Admission or confession of sin 2)Sacrificial animal is costly not free 3)Close identification between sinner and sacrifice. Laying on of hands. 4) Painful, sinner must kill the animal.

Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Today we count on the all-sufficient death of Christ on the cross. We need to 1)Confess 3)Be closely identified with Christ

Which are no longer necessary? 2)We don't need to pay to buy a lamb. (Sacrifice is still costly in other ways.) 4) We aren't the ones literally driving the nails or killing the sacrifice.

Why?The sacrifice of Jesus is/was so perfect that it does not need to be repeated. It is sufficient to meet the demands of God's justice for all people of all time. Hallelujah!!

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

The basic Old Testament elements involved in a sacrifice for sin are: confession of sin, bringing an animal which has no defect, lay hands on its head,

slay the animal, blood is collected, fat portions are burned on the altar, and the meat is eaten by the priests.

The only one which is still necessary for forgiveness of sins today is the confession of sin. The principle we follow today if somebody miss the mark is in

1 John 1:9 which says: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Apart from the confession of sins the rest are rendered null and void because Jesus paid the price for the sins of mankind. No amount of animal sacrifices

can take the effects of the sins of the world. Galatians 3:13 says, Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree." Verse 14 says, "He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. " Glory to the Lamb of God

No more animal sacrifices. It is abrogated. Jesus has become our new paschal lamb. Alleluia!

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6)

Analysis of a sacrifice for sin.

Confession or acknowledgement of sin is a necessary part of the sacrifice.

A sacrificial animal is costly to the sinner. Nothing free here.

There is a close identification between the sinner and the sacrifice.

The imparting of sin by the laying on of hands suggests that the animal becomes a substitute for the sinner.

Killing the animal is very personal. It is not done for the sinner by a third party but by the sinner himself.

Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today?

Confession

A substitute provided for our sins through repentance.

Which are no longer necessary? A sacrificial animal.

Why? Jesus paid it all. :(

I think all the elements are the same except that Jesus replaces the animal and the individual Christian becomes the priest. Confession and repentance are still necessary for each sin, but the sacrifice doesn't have to be repeated, it was once for all.

The basic elements involeved in the sacrifice of sin are:

1. Confession of sin is essential

2. There is an element of cost involed because the animal required must be without deffect and therefore more costly.

3. There is a relationship between the animal and the sinner, the transfer of sin from the man/ woman to the animal through the laying of the hand on the sinner on the head of the animal.

4. The man/ woman who is making the sacrifice slaughters the animal himself (not the priest)

Confession of sin is still relevant and necessary even today. I believe the transfer or exchange of sin has already taken place when Jesus died on the cross and shed his blood for all mankind. Believers only need to put their faith on Jesus and confess their sin and the are declared NOT guilty.

Furthermore, the relationship between the sinner and the lamb exist but is now more of fellowship with the risen lamb of God

The basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin are: confessing of sin, sacrificing a lamb without blemish/defect, laying on of hands by the priest, slaying of the animal by the priest, the blood is sprinkled on the altar, and burning of the fat of the sacrificial animal.

Confessing of sin is still necessary for forgiveness of sins today. The rest are no longer necessary because the blood of Jesus atone for the sins of mankind.

The basic elements involved is a sacrifice for sin are to Bring a perfect female lamb; confess my sin; put my hand on the animal's head and cut it's throat. This transfers my sin to the animal before I kill it.

Now I confess that Jesus Christ is Lord of all; confess my sins to the perfect Lamb of God who died once, for all of us, and receive His forgiveness.

  • confession of sin
  • bring an animal with no defect
  • laying hands on animal to have it carry your sin
  • the slaying of the animal for atonement
  • blood covering on alter
  • burning of portions of fat
  • portions of meat only to be eaten by priests

We are now covered by the precious blood of Jesus....as an atonement, the true Lamb to cover us for all time. We still need to confess of our sin and repent....the rest has been paid for us.

Q4. (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6)

What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin?

The basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin during OT times would be: Confession of sin; the sacrificial animal, normally a lamb, was to be spotless, without blemish; close identification between the sinner and the sacrifice; and the sinner had to personally kill the animal.

Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today?

These basic elements are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today.

Which are no longer necessary?

They are all necessary only in different forms and with different emphasises.

Why?

In the OT the sacrifices had to be regularly offered to compensate for the sins that had been committed; more as a cover up for the sin committed. Not to deter the sinner from future offense against God, but rather to atone for the sin. Today, because of Christ

What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin?

Confession, bringing an animal that has no defect, lay hands on the head, Slay the animal, Blood is collected by Priest, removes fat portion priest burn on altar, meat eaten by priest in sin offering.

Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today?

Confession/Repentance, The Lamb and Blood of God have been applied once and for all- Jesus. He- Jesus identified with us and he became sin so that we may become Righteous. And he takes our sins away once and for all. He shed his Blood on the Cross, Died and was buried and resurrected the third day and as High Priest he carried the Blood into real Holy of Holies.

Which are no longer necessary? Why?

The real animal sacrifices are no longer needed Jesus offers his Body once and for all we are forever sanctified by his Blood. But we still have to confess and repent and in doing so the blood cleanses. But symbolically we eat Jesus flesh and drink his blood at Communion. Also, Why? Those things in Leviticus are no longer needed is explained well in the Book of Hebrews.

We need something greater than an imperfect animal to cleanse us from our sins. It is necessary to have a clean and pure sacrifice for a full atonement of our sins. Only A Perfect one can abolish all sin. One that has never sinned can be the only option to abolish all sin once and forever.

What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6)

1. Confession of sin/s

2. Provide the atoning sacrifice (lamb)

3. Laying of hands ("transfer" of sin from person to animal)

4. Killing of the Animal

5. Shedding of the animal's blood

6. Removal of the fat portion

7. Consummation of the meat by the priest

Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today?

CONFESSION

Which are no longer necessary? Why?

Everything to do with sacrificing an animal. Reason is that no substitute animal can atone for the sins of the sinner. However, in Hebrews 10:10, "we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL."

Q4. (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin?

Confession of the sin. Providing an animal, (lamb) without defect for the sacrifice. Laying your hands on the head of the animal to be sacrificed. Personally killing the animal by cutting it's throat. Blood is collected by the priest, put on the horns of the altar, and poured out at the base of the altar. Far portions are removed, given to the priest and burned up on the altar. The meat is eaten by the priests for a sin offering; or the family as a sacred meal, for a fellowship offering.

Which are no longer necessary?

Everything but the confession of sin is no longer necessary.

Why?

God provided the sacrifice, in His son, Jesus Christ, who took upon Himself the sins of the world; past, present and future.

We do practice communion, in which we drink grape juice or wine to represent Christ's blood and eat bread to represent Christ's body; we do both in rememberance of Christ, His sacrifice, and all He has done for us.

I always think about repentance of sins going hand in hand with confession of such. I guess that is a heart issue between you and God, that is not always easy to see or measure. John the Baptist preached a message of repentance, (turning away from sin or a sin) while animal sacrifice was for forgiveness of sin.

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6)

Confession, bring a perfect sacrifice, imparting the sin of the sinner onto the sacrifice, killing the animal (sacrifice), the collection of blood, the removal of fat and the burning of the sacrifice. This process ends with the animal being consumed.

Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today?

For forgiveness of sins today there must be confession.

Which are no longer necessary?

All of the other parts are not necessary today.

Why?

They are not necessary because Christ came as the perfect Lamb of God. The sins of the world have already been rolled on His shoulders. Therefore, there is no need to slay an animal we just need to confess, repent and accept His forgiveness.

The basic elements involved in a sin sacrifice are confession, bringing an animal with not defect, lay his hands on the head of the animal (symbolic of sin transfer) and slaying the animal.  The blood is collected b y the priest and poured on the base of the altar.  For forgiveness of sins today first we confess we have sinned and ask for forgiveness.  Then we try not to commit his or any other sin again.  We do not need to make a sacrifice Jesus was the sacrifice for our sins.  We are not perfect we will sin.  But we try and we do know right from wrong.

A person must admit that a sin has been committed.

The peson must actually want forgiveness for the sin

The person must be willing to make compensation for the sin. Pay the price for the crime.

There needs to be a peace offering for the sin.

There needs to be the sacrifice of the peace offering by the person to make it personal. At one time the blood of the sacrifice needed to be given to the priest. However, this is no longer done.

In animal offering, the fat was burned on a special alter. Or in some instances the whole animal was burned.

The meat was eaten.

The only parts of this that are no longer done are the burning of the fat and blood on the alters. We no longer need to sacrifice animals to God because of the ultimate sacrifice of His Son for our sins.

There still might be the eating of a meal together with the one that you are asking to forgive you.

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

The basic elements for forgiveness of sins today that are similar to the Mosaic laws are; a person must be aware of their sin and acknowledge it, this is confession; they must be sorry for the sins, an offense against God and fellow man.

These same basic elements are the same except that now we have the sacrifice of Jesus and his blood sacrifice on the cross to atone for our sins, provided we believe he was the Son of God and died for our sins.

The elements of the sacrifices that are no longer necessary are the rituals of the blood sacrifices of the animals. Recognition of sin, repenting of those sins and believing in Jesus Christ as our savior will save us from eternal punishment but instead bring us into eternal life with God in the Kingdom of Heaven.

What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin?

1. Confession of the sin.

Why? "When anyone is guilty of sin, he must confess in what way he has sinned and, as a penalty for the sin he has committed, he must bring to the LORD a female lamb or goat from the flock as a sin offering; and the priest shall make atonement for him for his sin."

2. Bringing an animal that has no defect that might decrease its market value. It must be healthy and whole or it is not fit to offer to God.

Why? An animal like this could be rather costly, though a poor person might bring a pair of pigeons or doves instead.

3. Lay his hands on its head.

Why? There seems to be a sense in which the offerer’s sin is imparted to the animal through the laying on of hands.

4. Slay the animal by cutting its throat.

Why? He is to lay his hand on its head and slaughter it for a sin offering at the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered.

5. Blood is collected by a priest, put on the horns of the altar, and poured out at the base of the altar.

6. Remove the fat portions, which are given to the priest and burned on the altar.

Why? Just as the fat is removed from the lamb of the fellowship offering.

7. The meat is eaten by the priests in the case of a sin offering. In case of a peace or fellowship offering, most of the meat would be eaten by the offerer and his family as a kind of sacred meal.

Why? In this way the priest will make atonement for him for the sin he has committed, and he will be forgiven.

Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today?

Confession or acknowledgement of sin is a necessary part of the sacrifice.

Why? Jesus died on the cross for our sins as a sacrificial lamb. In order to be forgiven for our sins, we must pray to God for forgiveness of our sins Not once a day, but as soon as we sin, we need to ask God’s forgiveness.

Q4. (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

Sorrow for sin (confession)

perfect lamb

lay hand on head of lamb

slaying the lamb

blood of lamb for transfer of sin

altar

fat of lamb

priest to make atonement

Today we need only sorrow leading to confession to our High Priest, Jesus the Christ, who shed His blood once and for all, for the sins of all who would believe on Him.  He is worthy of our worship and adoration.

God Bless!

The basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin were…

·         Confession of the sin

·         A female lamb, without defect, pure of any blemish must be brought for sacrifice

·         He must lay his hands the head of this lamb which his sin was then imparted to the lamb in his stead.

·         The lamb would then be slayed by cutting its throat

·         Blood would be collected by the priest and poured at the base of the altar

·         Removal of fat portions were burned on the altar

·         The meat was eaten by the priest

The elements that are still necessary of our sin today are…

·         Confession of sin

After Jesus’ death on the cross, He was for us…

·         The lamb without defect (sinless because He was true God)

·         Our sin was transferred to Him when we accepted Him as our Savior.

·         He died on the cross, bloodied and bruised, slain

·         His blood was laid at our Fathers feet who was sitting on His altar.

·         The meat being eaten by the priest represents that Christ sacrifice for our sins was accepted by His Father

Sinner must confess  in front of LORD (Leviticus  5:5) is still necessary , rest all are no longer necessary.

Romans - 8
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Confession or acknowledgement of sin . confession and atonement are both necessary to receive forgiveness of sins. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins"
Man needs someone greater than himself to actually atone for and do away with sin.
