Q4. Elements of Sacrifice

Recommended Posts

What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

The basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin are confession of the sin , Bringing an animal that has no defect ,Lay his hands on its head , Slay the animal by cutting its throat , a priest who leads the offering.

Only confession(with a broken and contrite heart ) is still necessary, any other is not. Because the blood of the Lamb of God has been shed once for all for the atonement of whoever believes.

We still need to come before our heavenly Father and confess our sins. Jesus has become the 'substitute spotless Lamb' for us. It's His blood that was shed so we could be forgiven. We don't bring a Lamb or a pigeon or anything like that, but the Father in Heaven has provided the lamb for us, Jesus His Son. Who fully man and divine is the ONLY sacrifice that would be sufficient for me. Blood still needs to flow so we can be reconciled to God, but it's the blood of His Son, the Saviour of the world.

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

Confession of the sin, bringing an animal, lay his hands, slay the animal, blood is collected, remove the fat portions which are given to the pries and burned on the altar, and the meat is eaten by the priest in case of a sin offering.

Confession of sin is necessary followed by repentance for the forgiveness of sins. Confession alone is not enough. All the remaining elements are not necessary because Jesus Christ become a sin for us and He died on the cross for our sins. His death on the cross become our sin offering so that animal sacrifice is no longer necessary. He died for our sins once for all.

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

1. confession of sin - either specific or global - I'm not always able to be aware of every sin I commit, either by commission or omission....

2. bringing of a "premium" animal (lamb) from your own stock - not the runt! (my first fruits, not the stuff left over)

3. laying hands on the animal by the person bringing the sacrifice - up close, in your "space"

4. slaying of animal by the person bringing the sacrifice - might get bloody....

5. collection of the blood for sacrifice

6. remove and burn the fat (highest calories/gm of any food stuff-therefore was considered special to eat)

7. meat is eaten by priest(s) - no leftovers/takehome!

Today, only #1 is necessary for forgiveness. The rest were only a foreshadowing of what Christ would be and do for us on the cross... can't improve on HIS perfection, and the sacrifice was already made >2000 yrs ago for my sin today and tomorrow!!! WOW!!!!! :D

Q4. (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin?

1. The person who committed the sin must have a heart of remorse as he confesses his sin. 2. They must bring a perfect animal or bird as God commanded. 3. the guilty person must place his hand on the animal, imparting the sin to the animal. 4. The sinner must kill the animal himself. 5. The High Priest is to put the blood on the altar.

Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today?

A repentant heart is necessary, as is the confession of faith, confessing that Christ is God

the sin ofering was appointed for a redeemed people.it does not speak of a sinner coming to the lord for salvation, but of a israelite in covenant relationship with the lord, seeking forgiveness.it has to do with sin committed unconsciously or unintentionally.

duties of offering?{in general,the offering brought the animal to the gate of the tabernacle court,presented it to the lord,laid his hand on its head,killed it,and removed the fat,the kidneys,and the fatty lobe above the liver.}

for himself and for the cngregation, the high priest carried the blood of the sacrifice into the holy place on the tabernacle, sprinkled it seven times before the veil and on the horns of the golden altar of incense.then he poured the rest of the blood at the base of the altar of burnt offering.

the person who brought a sin offering was acknowledging that he had sinned unintenionally through weakness or negligence.he sought forgiveness of sins and ceremonial cleansing.

the sin offering points symbolically to christ, who was "made sin"for us,though he knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of god in him.

- an animal that has no defect

- this will be expensive

- lay the hands on his head (???)

- remove the fat

- the priest can eat the meet

What we still have to do:

- confession

- accept His sacrifice, therefore we must have a personal bond with Jesus

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

Basic elements:

1) confession of sin

2) an innocent animal, that is costly

3) laying hands on the animal's head, thus placing one's sins on the animal

4) the sinner must make the kill himself, slitting the throat of the animal

5) blood is collected and the priest applies to the horns of the altar

6) the fat is burned on the fire of the altar

7) the priests ate some sacrificial animals; the sinner and family ate others

Elements still necessary:

confession of sin.

transfer of my sins to the Lamb of God

Death of the Lamb, "by my own hands" (that is, it is my sin that killed Him)(that is, I must recognize the ugliness and horror of my own sin)

The Lamb's blood offered before God

What is not necessary anymore:

We don't bring animals to the Lord anymore. The blood of the Lamb of God is sufficient, whereas the blood of bulls was necessary every year.

The book of Hebrews is clear on the matter: the animal sacrifice required by God was fulfilled in the Lord Jesus, and He put a permanent end to them when the temple was destroyed. The destruction began when Jesus died...the veil was torn in two, from top to bottom, and the Holiest Place was made open. That was the beginning of the end for ritual sacrifice in the temple. In 70 AD, it came to a permanent end. No more ritual slaughter. All of the OT sacrificial law was a picture of the coming Messiah. All of it points to Him, who laid Himself down for our sakes. Amen. What a passionate love for us He has!

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

Confession of sin, a lamb without blemish, killing the lamb, blood on the horns of the alter, blood at the base of the alter, burning the fat,and eating the meat. Confession is the necessary one today and the giving up of the cause of the sin. Killing a lamb, shedding its blood pouring it on and around the alter. Because Jesus is our lamb, He died once for all our sins all we must do is confess and believe that He will so what He has said.

1. Confession of the sin

2. Bring an animal that has no defect to offer to God.

3. Lay his hands on its head

4. Slay the animal by cutting its throat.

Today we still have to confess our sins which is the number one thing to do.

We no longer have to sacrifice animals for our sins today because God Himself provided the perfect sacrifice for our sins His Son Jesus Christ.

Confession or acknowledgement of sin is a necessary part of the sacrifice.

A sacrificial animal is costly to the sinner. Nothing free here.

There is a close identification between the sinner and the sacrifice. The imparting of sin by the laying on of hands suggests that the animal becomes a substitute for the sinner.

Killing the animal is very personal. It is not done for the sinner by a third party but by the sinner himself.

We still need to confess, acknowledge what we have done wrong. Remember the cost that Jesus took on Himself to pay for

our sins, and especially have a repentant heart. We do not have to lay our hands on a sacrificial animal and kill him,

but we have to acknowledge that Jesus was that for us.

Q4. (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

Confession, Bringing an animal, Lay his hands, Slay the animal and collecting the blood.

Today we confess to the Lord our sins. Jesus has already been slain and his blood atones our sin and future sin. We just need to ask for forgiveness and repent. Bringing a perfect animal, imparting sin to the animal, slaying it on a alter, having a priest take some blood to pour on the alter, then removing the fat and eating the meat are longer necessary. I think God has us to this because He doesn't want us to forget how much it cost Him for our sins atonement, thus most people practice communion.

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

1. Confession: Still VERY necessary. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins..."

2. Bringing a costly animal: not necessary for forgiveness, but necessary for true life. God calls us to bring OUR lives as a living sacrifice to Him (costly animal). Jesus died for us, but we are to give up the desires of our flesh, take up His cross and follow him.

3. Laying hands on sacrifice: not literally necessary. However, when we confess our sins to Jesus, we should leave our sins on Him and not take them back with us. When we leave our sins on Him, we are being freed from the burden of those sins, just as the Isrealites were freed from the burden of the sin they put onto the sacrifical lambs. The sacrifical lambs took away the sin. If we take our sins back with us after "confessing," have we truly confessed and relied on HIS forgiveness?

4. Burning the fat at the alter: not literally necessary. However, Jesus calls us to "repent." To repent is to "change one's mind, or make a change for the better." So He calls us to not only confess, but to change. It appears to me that the burning of the fat might symbolize the removal of the excess in our lives that cause us to stumble and sin. Only the lean meat is left...

5. Meat is eaten: communion is commanded. Jesus commanded us to take of his body and his blood. We do this in communion. He said to do this in "remembrance" of Him. Did the requirement that the meat of the sacrificed animal be eaten actually provide the forgiveness? Maybe it was commanded so that they would not take for granted the spilled blood of the animal for the sin. They had to "remember" the sacrifice when they sat down to eat, just as we are to remember Jesus' sacrifice when we partake in communion. Also, we are to told by Paul in 1 Cor. not to partake in communion unless we have "examined" ourselves and are not partaking in an "unworthy" manner. I think most of us believe that this means we are to ask forgiveness of our sins prior to communion.

The Isrealites had to confess and sacrifice then eat of the sacrifice, and we are called to do the same.

Basic elements: blood - is poured out

Fat - is burnt

Meat is eaten sacramentally

Costly

Personal

Today: (and still needed today) Confession

Personal!

Costly - Jesus life. When He gave up His life it was not just the one time. His Resurrection is evidence of His death for everyone.

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

The basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin was an innocent victim such as Jesus, the Lamb of God, who was completely Prefect male victim in youthful age. The sacrifice had to have the sins transferred to the innocent victim such as confession of sins, then the blood, the seat of life had to be drained from the body. Our Lord became our sacrifice.

We must still confess our faults to God and ask for the Blood of Christ Jesus to cover our sins in order to be reconciled to God. We do not need anymore sacrifices because Jesus was once and for all sacrifice for sin.

Q4 The basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin are:-

1) Confession of sins committed

2) A sacrificial animal without defeat

3) Laying of hands on its head - the animal becomes a substitute for the sinner

4) Slaughtering the animal by cutting its throat

5) The priest collected the blood, put on the horns of the altar and poured the

rest at the base of the altar

6) Remove the fat portions and burn on the altar.

Today, the main necessity is confession, admitting to God our wrongdoing and it

must be done sincerely for the repentance of sins. The laying of hands on the

sinners by priests are still practice by some churches asking God to absorb the

sins and to bless the sinner with strength and peace and to go and sin no more.

Slaughtering of animals for sacrifices are no longer practiced today as Jesus came

to be the sacrificial lamb, to die on the cross once and for all for the remission

of our sins.

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6) Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today? Which are no longer necessary? Why?

The basic elements are as follows: confession; a costly sacrifice; personal identification with the sacrifice; and the person makes the sacrifice -- not a third party.

I think all of the elements still apply today. Here's why: We need to personally confess our sins to God; we need to give our lives to Jesus Christ; we must identify with Jesus' sacrifice on the cross for the atonement of our sin; and we must recognize we (our sins) put Jesus on the cross.

Q4. What are the basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin? (Leviticus 4:32-35; 5:5-6)

First the desire to be forgiven (if he brings a lamb for his sin offering), and the conviction that one has sinned. Then taking personal responsibility for the sin (lay his hand upon the head of the sin offering);he must confess the sin; understanding that sin is costly, (the price of the perfect lamb as a substitute for the sinner), and that blood must be shed to atone for the sin (kill it in the place where they kill the burnt offering.); a mediator between God and man completes the process (the priest sprinkles and then pours the blood at the base of the altar); the fat is burned as a peace offering (the Lord receives the offering and guilt is removed); the priest makes atonement for the sin the man committed, and he is forgiven.

Which of these are still necessary for forgiveness of sins today?

The desire to be forgiven, after the conviction that one has sinned. Taking personal responsibilty for the sin through confession. Understanding that the precious blood of Jesus, God's lamb, was very costly and to not take it lightly or for granted, and that His sacrifice cleanses us from all sin. His is our High Priest who is the mediator between God and man. God forgives a repentant sinner.

Which are no longer necessary? Why?

Bringing an animal to be sacrificed, because Jesus was the sacrifice once for all; We no longer need a human priest to intervene, because Jesus is our High Priest, and none other is necessary.

Elements of sacrifice include:

confession of sin

selecting a young, blemish-free animal (this involved personal financial sacrifice on the part of the agrarian Israelite making the sacrifice - he could have slaughtered the animal for food for his family, or sold it at market, or used it to work his farm)

laying hands on the head of the animal - symbolically transferring the person's sin to the animal, then putting that sin to death by slaughtering the animal

collecting the blood after slashing the animal's throat; pouring the blood around the base of the altar

collecting the fat and burning it on the altar

then the priests would eat the cooked meat of the slaughtered animal.

Necessary today:

confession of sin, then seeking God's forgiveness and aid to put to death that particular sin in the person's life

No longer necessary:

actual slaughter of an animal, or any of the rituals involved with the blood, fat, or meat. This is because Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice, and the only "blemish-free" sacrifice that could every truly be completely sufficient for God's righteous anger towards our sin.

The basic elements involved in a sacrifice for sin were a desire to bring an atoning sacrifice for the sin, confession of sin, a lamb without blemish, laying on of the hands to transfer the sins, slaughtering of the animal (blood) and a priest to offer atonement for the sins.

Today we need to recognize our sin and confess our sin trusting in the blood of Jesus as the atoning sacrifice once and for all.

We no longer need to repeatedly sacrifice anything for each sin, nor do we need a mediator. We approach the throne of God ourselves.
