Q2. Darkness and Light

Recommended Posts

Q2 When a Christian walks in darkness and continues willfully to do what he or she knows to be wrong, then he or she is doomed to death, for the wages of sin is death. When one decides to continue on doing his own ways without caring for the feelings of others, he is living in a world of deceit and of loneliness and thus always in darkness.

When we decided to repent and turn to God for strength and walk in His light then we not only have fellowship with others but also receive Jesus saving help. Jesus will cleanse us from our sins, whiter than snow. We need to be honest with ourselves and admit our wrong and confess our sins to God and resolve not to sin again. With God's strength and guidance we will learn to hate sin and live life pleasing to Him.

The result when a Christian walks in darkness is that he lies and does not walk according to the truth. This is deception because he pretends to be living right with God when he is not.

When a Christian walks in the light, ie does what is according to the Word of God, he has fellowship with God and men. The blood of Jesus cleanses him.

When a Christian falls into sin, he should be sincers to admit that he has fallen, thenask God for forgiveness. God will for give him. He should however make and also rely on the Holy Spirit to help continue to resist temtation to sin.

What is the result when a Christian walks in darkness, that is, continues willfully to do what he or she knows to be wrong? How does this involve self-deception? What is the result, according to verse 7,when we walk in the light? How do we get back into the light if we sin?

The apostle John does say clearly in the letter that we cannot say that we are Christians but then we do whatever we want cause then we are lying. Like for an example a married man cannot be with his wife and be having an affair cause then He is not living in the light he is lying to himself God and others as well. Self deception is evident because then if we doing whatever we want and we say we love God and are in the light then we are lying to ourselves. We have to be honest and open to the sin we did and learn from it also having a hatred for it if we want to get back into the light adn God's grace.

Q2. (1 John 1:5-7)

What is the result when a Christian walks in darkness, that is, continues wilfully to do what he or she knows to be wrong?

How does this involve self-deception?

What is the result, according to verse 7, when we walk in the light?

How do we get back into the light if we sin?

There is no grey area; if we continue walking in darkness the result will be separation from God. We must not deceive ourselves; sin is sin. All the excuses we use like it is hopeless to resist sin, or bluffing ourselves that we sin no more, and even accepting that sin is not so bad, all deceive us. We must accept that we struggle with sin and only with the help of the Holy Spirit and as we grow in Christ, are we slowly winning the battle. On the other hand, if we walk in the light, then we can have fellowship with the Lord Jesus and with our fellow Christians. We are either in the light or in darkness, as mentioned earlier there is no grey area. If we are in the light, we are members of God's family. If we are in darkness, we have nothing in common with God because there is no darkness in God at all. Those who walk in the light, that is, those who are Christians, have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ continually cleanses them from all sin. All God's forgiveness is based on the blood of His Son that was shed at Calvary. That blood provided God with a righteous basis on which He can forgive sins, it has lasting efficacy to cleanse us. Of course, believers must confess before they can receive forgiveness.

Leading without God's input in our lives leaves us open to the wiles of the world, causes anxiety, spiritual pain and ultimetly eternal death. We tend to forget that the heart is deceitfully wicked and the pleasures of the world bring monentary relief but pale miserably compared to the lasting pleasure of trusting in the power of God. Walking in the light of Jesus will cleans us from out sins. Repent, turn from sin and be forgiven.

Q2. (1 John 1:5-7) What is the result when a Christian walks in darkness, that is, continues willfully to do what he or she knows to be wrong? How does this involve self-deception? What is the result, according to verse 7, when we walk in the light? How do we get back into the light if we sin?

When we willfully walk in darkness we are lying to ourselves and to others. We are stunting our growth in Christ and possibly others as well... sin hurts more than just ourselves. So, by walking in darkness, we can be causing other people around us to sin and stumble as well. We cannot have a relationship with the Lord if we are willfully walking in darkness. I think this could involve self deception by living in denial of the sin actually being sin. We try to come up with every excuse in the book on why it's ok to do whatever sin we do/did. But, if Jesus wouldn't do it it's sin. As others on here have written, sin is sin. It's so easy to deceive ourselves and justify our sins.

According to verse 7, the result of us walking in light is we are washed clean by the blood of Jesus Christ AND we will have fellowship with one another! If we sin, we can confess our sins to Him and He is faithful to forgive us and bring us back into the light!

if we live in sin, it is a proof that our profession of religion is false. Desirable as it is to have the comforts of religion, yet it is not always true that they who do not are not true Christians, nor is it true by any means that they intend to deceive the world.

When we walk in the light The blood of Jesus Christ cleanse us of all sin, And being cleansed from all sin is what every believer should look for, what he has a right to expect, and what he must have in this life, in order to be prepared to meet his God. Christ is not a partial Saviour, he saves to the uttermost, and he cleanses from ALL sin.

The result of a Christian walking in darkness is someone who is living a lie. They are claiming to be followers of Christ while willfully sinning.

This involves self-deception because often the person walking in darkness will make excuses for their sin. They might say it's impossible to resist the temptation to sin or that's it's ok to sin since they can ask for forgiveness at any time.

When we walk in the light we will have fellowship with Christ and with fellow believers

In order to get back into the light after we sin, we need to confess our sins to God and ask forgiveness. Then we should forsake that sin and not commit it any more.

1. They are lying to themselves and disregarding the Bible.

2. If you have read the truth in the Word and continue to commit the same sin, then you are only deceiving yourself, because God sees all.

3. When we walk in the light, we are washed in the blood and cleansed of our sins.

4. We can get back into the light if we sin, if we stop sinning, and ask for forgiveness and then contiunue to walk in the light.

When a christian continually acts in ways that he/she knowsis sinful, then they arelying to themselves and to God and are a bad witness to others, If this behavior continues, then one would have to believe that this person does not understand what a christian should be. They are not living a christian life. If this person were to turn away from this behavior and turn to God in repentance, he/she would again be in the light and and God would again be walking with them and they would walk with God. No matter how far away we stray, or how dark our world becomes, if we truly repent and call out to God, He will be there to welcome us back into the light and into commnunion with Him.

What is the result when a Christian walks in darkness (continues willfully to do what he or she knows to be wrong)?

The result of a Christian continuing to do what he/she knows to be wrong is that they begin to deceive themselves regarding their relationship with God and fellow believers; the deception is that they believe they can remain in sin and not hurt the relationship with God and other Christians, which is not true. The fellowship with God is hurt because the one walking in darkness knowingly does what God has told them not to do; the fellowship with other Christians is damaged, because in sinning, they are separated from the group in following God/being in the light; they, in a sense, are not truly "fellow" Christians with the others because they are taking another path.

The result of walking in light is that we have fellowship with other believers, because we are on the same path--towards God, and in God. When we continue to walk in the light, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.

What is the result when a Christian walks in darkness, that is, continues willfully to do what he or she knows to be wrong?

They cannot expect to be received as brothers or sisters in Christ, since they deny the light and the power that dwells within them. The light reveals repentance and forgiveness and the desire to do right and leads us into the power. The power reveals and provides a way out and a way to overcome habitual sin (the continual practice of knowingly willful sin).

How does this involve self-deception?

Self-deception allows a person to have excuses and reasons and tolerance for practicing sinful acts. These excuses and reasons and tolerance leads one away from the light and into darkness. Eventually, the sinful practices are not seen as sin, but as part of being a human being (human nature) and are taken much too lightly. And spiritual blindness results. There is no light to expose the sin, leading to crippled faith or even a complete lack of faith.

What is the result, according to verse 7, when we walk in the light?

We are going to desire to surround ourselves with others that will not allow us to remain in self-deception. We will continually be reminded that His blood has cleansed us from all sin (past, present and future).

How do we get back into the light if we sin?

Acknowledge the sin as sin and ask God for forgiveness. Ask Him to show us the way to repentance. Keep ourselves surrounded with the Word and prayer and fellow believers.

Nothing happens that we see with the natural eye. But in the spiritual rrealm things are changing. willful sin is darkness and brings in others sins that we didn''t do before we got saved. Our talk and walk changes; the old man comes back and bring others with him. We go to church and do the same things we used to do, but without the joy we once felt when we walked in the light. We deceive ourselves by continuing to go to church but our heart is not in it. we do all the things we did when we were living for God, but our hearts are far from feeling the Spirit of the lord. there is a slow spiritual death that is taking place.

Sometimes we think we have plenty of time to confess, or we tell ourselves that God doesn't see, or He has bigger problems to solve. Sometimes there are things in our lives that we just don't want to let go of, or we think we can't-we're not strong enough. Sometimes we sin and we don't have the courage to admit that we made a mistake. If we don't confess right away, it becomes more and more difficult to come back. God will forgive if we confess-but waiting too long can be a big mistake.

I have had one period of time when I absolutely walked in darkness, it was triggered by anger with God. God is generally there always with you, calling you back. Yet, there is a disconnect and lack of peace. When embracing darkness, it is a self focus. When trigger by anger with God, it is over some perceived lack that is focus on self and connected often to some real or perceived suffering. When we walk in light, we display light to others. It is evident. Getting back into the light involves confession and repentance.

I believe this is one of the major problems with the church in the West. I have this deep conviction that we are not obeying the clear instructions of our Lord Jesus - EVEN THO' WE KNOW THEM. As a result of our disobedience we lose the power and enabling of His Holy Spirit and live a second-class Christian life. One example is our Lord commanded us to 'be His witnesses' (eg Matt. 28:18-20). Less than 5% of Christians in the West obey this command. Sure we still have the the indwelling of the Holy Spirit - but NOT in His fullness of power - and we wonder why we are not living a victorious life! Its a case of Romans 12:1-2 commitment. If we are 'living sacrifices' then we are not afraid of anything except disobeying our precious Savior. It seems (and me included) we are too often driven by our hunger to be liked! and of course the 'world' does not like the Gospel - the Good News of eternal salvation in Christ Jesus. We need to work past this - to remember life is a short visit - and eternity is coming. Remember WHO are we trying to please and work to obey our Lord at every turn. We are self deceived - thinking - everyone is the same so it must be OK. and our Savior must weep to see the pale lethargy of His Western church. One cure is to visit a mission field such as China, Africa or India and get involved with a church that is on fire for service to her Lord.

I submit that living as a half-hearted Christian is also living a lie - we need to repent and get busy spending quality time with our Lord, listening to the promptings of His Holy Spirit minute by minute and obeying HIM. THEN the church in the West will come alive - as her people come alive and become obedient to their Lord. Other issues we could raise are that the rate of divorce and of abortion are about as high amongst the Lord's people as they are outside the church.

When we sin our only recourse is instant confession and repentance asking the Lord for restoration for service. We live in a fallen world and cannot help but be affected by this in our daily living - for this reason I believe it is important to have a time of confession every morning for things done or not done and asking for a fresh filling and empowerment of the Holy Spirit for the new day. Blessings on you all - kiwidenis

When a Christian walks in darkness he becomes seperated from God. He might deceive himself into thinking he is OK, but he remains seperated from God until he confesses his sin and asks forgiveness, and is washed afresh in the Blood of Jesus. Only then is he restored into the light again.

When a Christian is walking in darkness they are not being honest with themselves and are living a lie. A Christian who is walking in the light has fellowship and will be purified with the Blood of Jesus from all sin. In order for a Christian to come back from darkness into the light, one must be honest about the sins commited, ask for forgiveness and change their behaviors. This must be done daily as we all sin. But the most important thing is to have an awareness of it, confess, ask for forgiveness and work to not continue repeating the same sin over and over again.

He treats GOD's gift of love with contempt. He tramples on this precious gift from our Father, GOD. He breaks the fellowship with the LORD and with his fellow believers. It involves self-deception because, the assumption of sinlessness does not relate to the reality of all human beings of all time since the fall at the garden. All human beings are sinners. The only sin-less person that has ever worn the body of frail humans is JESUS Christ. There has never been and will never be any other. We therefore deceive ourselves if we ever claim a state of sinlessness. When we walk in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ purifies us from all sin. We get back into the light by confessing our sins and repenting of them.
