We have to know what we are talking about when we discuss scripture. So many people are being lead astray because of teachers that don't know what they are talking about. How sad this is. If we would study-not just read-study the Word like we mean to learn the truth, then we would know if we are wrong or right and it does matter. We need the Holy Spirit guiding us and teaching us, so that we can teach others properly. Study, study, study!

A skilled teacher is prepared. He takes his time to search the scriptures & do research. He does not veer from the Truth and is led by the Holy Spirit.

In preparing to preach / teach the Word, Timothy is to prepare himself just as thoroughly and adequately as a skilled craftsmen would in order to do his trade correctly. The same idea applies to we today who would share the Word of God with others. We are to know that we are teaching the true word of God and use it respectfully so that other can learn of
God's power and love for us.

An electrician, these days, must satisfy authorities that he is well able to perform the tasks of his trade. He will then be licensed to call himself an electrician and to do work which is dangerous if not correctly done. Likewise for a builder, a plumber, and many other trades or professions. Paul is saying that Timothy needs to consider himself in the same boat with such people in that he has a task to perform which must be completed with the utmost care and knowledge. He can't fall back on compromise because of public pressure. He has to stand out as truthful, reliable and correct before the license provider, namely God, the Creator, Himself.

Today we have the same strictures applying to those who teach. In every way we are to please God, not men, and are answerable to God for our work. Faithful work will be rewarded. Less than faithful work will be a witness against us in the courts of our God. That is greatly to be feared, and the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. It is what we are given the gift of fear for, that we might fear God (above men) and get things right!

Believers who ignore the Bible will certainly be ashamed at the judgment. Consistent and diligent study of God’s Word is vital; otherwise we will be lulled into neglecting God and our true purpose for living. Whose life and work are such as to honor Christ and the gospel. This requires a pure life as well as judicious work

Any skilled workman needs to have been trained in his/her field of expertise, in order to correctly expedite a task. The more he/she studies and trains the more skilled he/she becomes .Now lets look at our teaching of scripture, in order to expound the word we first need to first to read and study .
In all fields of labour new discoveries are made daily and new methods of doing thing are discovered, one constantly needs to keep abreast of these changes and advancements. The same is true of the scriptures everyday we too discover new revelations and answers to our problems. It is this that makes our Gods word a living and eternal source of guidance for us to live by.

I think today many people spend to much time teaching and not enough time Training or learning .In doing so I think they often miss out on the new discoveries or in the case of the scriptures Gods truth that is speaking into our situation and lives today.

The word of truth must be rightly handled, like a skilled workman. The man who treats the Word properly, does not change, pervert, mutilate, or distort it, neither does he use it with a wrong purpose in mind.

This is how we should lovingly handle the Word, doing it for the glory of God, the conversion of sinners, and for the edification of believers.

A skilled worker, or professional, is able to dissect the needs to do the job set before them. This would mean that in order to present an acceptable finished product, they would have to be expert in the details required to reach the highest standards.
As teachers of the gospel we must be no less prepared. Our standards must be to the highest degree possible as we are teaching to help our students reach the Highest. Rightly dividing the Word means to have a thorough understanding of what we have to do in order to convey the message to the unskilled. This is a great responsibility.

The Word is the medium with which we work. It is God's Word--not our Word. The same instruction in teaching the Word applies today as it did in Paul and Timothy's Day.

Paul told Timothy to study and be eager to do his utmost to present himself to God approved, tested by trial, a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing, (rightly handling and skillfully teaching) the Word of Truth. The analogy is to serve in ministry with the same honed skills and integrity as that of a skilled workman who knows his job, his craft, and offers unblemished, finished work, in a timely way.

How does this apply to our teaching of scripture today?

In the same way, we are to study and to know the Word of God, to stand up under testing of trials, with no cause to be ashamed, able to rightly handle the Word of God with skill, able to teach others the Word of Truth with integrity. The key to teaching, is to sit long at the Master's feet listening to His heart and receiving His revelation.

When I was taking education method classes, what we would have to do is create our lesson plans and write out questions that the students might ask and make sure we knew the answers. That's one of the things it means to be a teacher, you hae to have skills as a student and as a studier of the course you're teaching. Being a skilled workman means that whatever your job is, you have to come in prepared, not only to do a set of tasks, but having the knowledge that will allow you to handle any sponteneous things that happen.

The skilled workman does his task or work with all his capability and skill that he has, correctly, carefully, seriously in order that his work is perfect, no defect, on schedule, fulfill his boss’s requirements

This applies to our teaching of scripture today in this way: we have to do our job or task of teaching of scripture in the similar way as a skilled workman does, too. Each of us is his workman and our boss is God. He has given each of us the job that we have to do, that is, teaching of scripture, and also the requirements that we have to fulfill in doing that job. To please him, we have to do the job with all our capability we have and do our best, no matter we have to suffer in doing it.

Similarly the servant of God being as the teacher of the Word of God should firstly present himself as sacrifice to the work of God, having good testimony. And then he himself should know the scriptures correctly and should apply them in his life and practice them everyday so that he is prepared to teach and instruct the word of God. And moreover if the men of God are lead to be by the holy spirit and should not compromise when teaching the scriptures in the medium of truth.
